Guys, we’re watching the open and I just saw this and I hate to call it out but no one said anything yet. Look at the ball. Just moved. I’ll show it again. Definitely moved. That is unfortunate. I hope he figures it

  2. The ball definitely moved. Bad luck for him that they zoomed in on the ball

  3. I saw the ball move the first time. Anyone that says they didn't see it move has their eyes closed. It's a harsh penalty but the ball moved.

  4. I don't understand. Lowery doesn't touch the ball. Surely, if the ball moved it was because of the unstable long grass. The video here goes from out of focus to in focus, that's all – I don't see the ball move. I don't watch golf much, but I'm sure I've seen a ball that's at the edge of the hole, stay there for a few seconds, then fall into the hole. That movement is surely the same as this movement, if it did indeed move here. It's just awful that he got a penalty. There should be an appeal.

  5. How come you didn’t call out Justin Thomas for waiting over 20 seconds for his ball to drop in the hole on the 3rd hole on the Friday. When after 10 seconds you are penalised one shot. That was more obvious than Shane Lowry’s rules incident.

  6. I think it was due to the focal point getting the ball together with the camera moving. That was a bad call.

  7. I thought the PGA and Royal and Ancient passed a rule saying TV footage will not be used to assess penalty.

  8. dumbest rule in golf. Did he intentionally make the ball to move. I doubt it. Just like a practice swing that accidentally hits the ball. No intention should be no penalty

  9. Out of focus camera – impossible to tell. Focused camera – ball definitely didn’t budge a micron. Horseshit by R&A

  10. the rule is if it can be seen by the naked eye, not zoomed in withy slo-mo. golf rules shouldnt be enforced by random yahoos on the internet, but by the players that are there..

  11. This rule needs to be changed. He clearly didn’t know nor intentionally made the ball move. But if you hit the ball 300 yards down the middle in land in a divot created by the playing group in front of you or previous groups in front of them you don’t get a free drop for ground under repair when it clearly is ground under repair.

  12. In times like this when faced with a moral dilemma, one has to ask "what would Patrick Reed do?"

  13. Yea it moved….But did it improve his lie at all? Did his action make it move? The practice swing looked like it was a ft away. Stupid rule. Lets be honest, the ball is always "moving" when it is in deep rough on a hill. Come back 5 minutes later and that logo will be 180 degrees out from where it originally started. Long rough vs fairway…there is a difference.

  14. It was out of focus. It's hard to tell whether there was a slight movement, or whether the "movement" was an illusion when the focus snapped in. Coincidence that it moved on the very split second that focus changed?

At any rate, if Lowry was penalised one stroke for not replacing the ball "after it moved", pray tell how that could have been achieved. It's not fair to penalise someone for not doing the impossible!

  15. Definitely moved, but it’s still a silly penalty. Rules should be meant to stop cheaters, not small mistakes that are easily corrected.

  16. Like Laura Davies said it probably happens a few times every tournament but Lowry just in pure bad luck gets penalized by tv , absolutely ridiculous rules ,just hard luck
