The sort of run Scottie Scheffler is on was always going to bring about mentions and comparisons of Tiger Woods and the current world number one has once again been speaking on those comments.
Having won The Open in style at Royal Portrush last week, Scheffler is now on four career majors and seems to be quickly heading towards double figures.
At the time, Scheffler shot down talk of being as good as Woods as he was probed by the press.
However, since then, it’s been a hot topic of conversation among the golf media world and PGA Tour player Matt Wallace has said he thinks Scheffler usurps Woods in some categories.
With a bit of time off, Scheffler himself has been able to offer himself up for a few more in-depth interviews on his recent success.
And as expected, he’s addressed the talk of Tiger Woods.

Anytime we get to hear from Scottie Scheffler is a good thing and he’s been speaking to the Pardon My Take podcast this week giving his thoughts on everything golf.
Indeed, it wasn’t long before the talk of Tiger came up and as expected, Scheffler was measured in his response.
“I think any time you can get mentioned in the same breath as some of the greats of the game I think is really cool,” Scheffler admitted.
“But the comparisons are I think just very silly. Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He completely transcended the game. He was by far the best player I think we will ever see in our lifetimes.
“I think people are always looking for that next thing but there is only one Tiger Woods and the rest of us are just trying to do our best out there, that’s all it comes down to. I think for me I think it’s silly too, just because I am my own person and my own guy. I am just trying to get the best out of myself.
“It’s not something that I think about on a daily basis, but when you see some statistics and you are being compared to him in some way that means you are doing something right.”
Scottie Scheffler should take pride in Tiger Woods comparisons
He is so level-headed that he’s never going to let this sort of talk get to him or affect his mental state but Scottie Scheffler should be so, so proud of being compared to Woods.
Woods transcended the game and Scheffler is right in that they are different characters and their own people.
Yes, people are always looking for that new superstar but the one thing Scheffler is missing here is that his golf game is actually good enough to be put in the conversation with Tiger.

As it stands, nobody can get near him when he’s even at 90% of this best and that is what Woods had.
Whoever comes up against Scheffler at the Ryder Cup is likely to already know in their mind that if they aren’t on it, then it’s game over.
And that, is just how Woods had people.
