Charlie Woods’ First Round Had Sealed His Fate
It’s fair to say that his fate had practically been sealed since the previous round, when he carded 11-over at Brook Hollow Golf Club. Charlie would have had to score well under par at Trinity Forest to even hope to advance past the stroke play stage.
The top 64 players will advance to the match play stage of the US Junior Amateur. Even though the second round has not yet been completed, the cut line is projected to be 3-over.
This is Charlie Woods’ second appearance in the U.S. Junior Amateur. He also missed the cut a year ago at Oakland Hills Country Club, with rounds of 82 and 80.
The high school junior at the Benjamin Academy will have two more opportunities to compete in the nation’s premier event.
This is an event his father, Tiger Woods, won three consecutive times between 1991 and 1993. The 15-time major champion followed this streak with one of three consecutive U.S. Amateur victories between 1994 and 1996.
