Fort Wayne Golf Courses

I talked to David Belville, Golfing Pro at Urban Golf at The Fairfield in downtown Fort Wayne, to get his thoughts on golfing in the Fort. Our city has 18 golf courses (9 public, 4 municipal, and 5 private), and Belville says that there are golf courses for everyone; your choice really depends on the price point and course type that you want. If you’d like a really good course at a good price, give Riverbend a try. For a slightly higher price and quality level, consider Autumn Ridge. He pointed out Brookwood, near the airport, as an excellent course. And if you’d like a lower price point but still a good course, try out Colonial Oaks. “It all depends on what you’re looking for,” Belville says.

Fort Wayne Simulators

Since Belville works at Urban Golf, he is naturally a fan of the multi-sport simulator. Golf lovers will want to stop by The Fairfield’s second floor for Urban Golf, which features 8 bays and 85 courses. You can play on a league or just for fun. And you have many options other than golf, including baseball, football, skee-ball, soccer, and more. You can even take lessons from Belville. The swanky bar on the premises gives a relaxed country club feel for drinks or a meal.

There are other simulators in The Fort; consider Touchet Performance Golf on the south side of town, Golf Garage farther north, or a larger facility in Churubusco, Eel River. Simulators let you practice your swing year-round, without interference from the elements.

Fort Wayne Golf Shops

Stick features Owen Wilson as a former professional golfer who works at a sporting goods store. Here in the Fort, golf afficionados won’t want to miss stores like these.

Pro Shop at Urban Golf, The Fairfield—after enjoying time at the simulator here, check out the golf clubs, irons, wedges, putters, and golf attire in the Pro Shop right on the property.

Touchet Performance Golf–not sure you’re using the right golf clubs? Take advantage of Touchet’s club fitting service to take your game to the next level. They’ll evaluate your tendencies to get the best clubs for your swing.

Bobick’s–a standard in the community; Bobick’s has been supplying golfers in the area since 1972. Stop by their store for a wide selection of clubs, shoes, apparel, balls, bags, carts, and accessories.

Dick’s Sporting Goods–don’t count out chain stores. Dick’s carries a wealth of products for any golfer, from the novice to the pro. They offer free fittings with club purchases, and on-site experts can tune, regrip, and repair clubs.

Golfing is Great in Fort Wayne

When it comes down to it, Fort Wayne is a special place to golf. Belville says that his 25 years in the city have shown him that the golfing community here is a strong as he’s seen anywhere. There are a wide variety of ways to play the sport here, from tournaments to fun leagues to couples leagues to junior golf for kids and teens. He pointed out that Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation has a great junior golf series where kids can develop strong golfing skills.

And for a bit of Fort Wayne golfing trivia: did you know that Arnold Palmer won his first ever check as a pro golfer right here in the Summit City? This was in 1955 at Coyote Creek Golf Course, which was known as the Elks Country Club at the time.
