We’ve got drama at the 153rd Open Championship – on and off the course.

Earlier this week, Wyndham Clark made headlines for the wrong reasons. He was suspended from Oakmont Country Club because he destroyed a locker in the clubhouse during the 2025 U.S. Open. His suspension will remain in effect “unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board.”

Despite being banned from Oakmont Country Club, Clark hasn’t allowed that to negatively impact his game at the Open Championship. He shot a five-under 66 during the third round at Royal Portrush.

Even though Clark played really well this Saturday, he refused to speak to the media.

James Corrigan of the Daily Telegraph called out Clark for this move.

“Wyndham Clark, who, it revealed earlier this week, was banned from Oakmont for smashing up lockers during the US Open, has declined to talk to the media, despite shooting a 66 today,” Corrigan said. “Weak does not begin to describe it.”

Clark apologized for his behavior at the U.S. Open during the Travelers Championship in June.

“I’ve had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year some lows. I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I’m very sorry for what happened,” Clark said. “But I’d also like to move on, not only for myself but for Oakmont, for the USGA, and kind of focus on the rest of this year and things that come up.”

Would another apology suddenly repair Clark’s image? Probably not, but ducking the media after catapulting inside the top 10 of the leaderboard is a bit odd.
