hi I’m Phil Kenyon i’m here at the barn at Wburn and in this video I want to talk to you about the importance of [Music] alignment so as a coach a really important facet for me is how the player can align the putter i see a lot of issues with the average golfer where poor alignment leads to poor performance they’re poor alignment they’re not able to compensate with their stroke or their green reading so they’re missing putts as a consequence so when it comes to deciding what the right putter is for you I think a really important thing to consider is how that putter impacts your alignment now everybody’s eyes uh they get drawn to different parts of the putter and that could have a a positive or negative impact on your alignment we we all have different perceptual acuity what may look straight to me might not look straight to you what looks square to me might not look square to you so I think it’s really important to be able to fine-tune the features of the putter to suit your eye and help your alignment some of the key variables that you’re going to need to consider when selecting the right putter for you are going to involve um do I look at sight lines do I need a short sight line a long sight line could it be multiple sight lines um is the sight line on the top leading edge or in the cavity going to be better for me some players actually benefit uh by not having a sight line on often some players can be better in their alignment if they’re focused more on a perpendicular reference so if you look at the new studio uh design range we have the fastback and the squareback putter which gives us a very strong perpendicular reference so we’ve got different styles of alignment uh within the range the head shape of the putter can influence your alignment a a square design versus a more rounded design could influence your perception as well as the hosal single bend double bend plumbers’s neck flow neck all these different necks can very um subtly adjust your alignment or influence your alignment so as I say when you’re selecting the putter there are various features you need to look at and the most important thing is fine-tuning those features to match your eye and as a consequence improve your alignment if you can improve your alignment you’re going to hold more putts
