The golfer speaks with the media after the second round at The Open Championship
Ter happy with that ter who’s starting but who is you happy with that? Uh yes and no. It felt like a pretty frustrating day. um didn’t hit it particularly close on on many holes and um yeah missed a he missed the green with a a lob wedge into 14 which after a perfect T-shot was was frustrating and obviously end up making bogey so that was a bit of a shame but it’s been a solid couple of days I’m happy with a few few parts of my game I’d like to be in the fairway more this weekend and hitting it a bit closer but Um, we’ll see how we go. That was a frustrating day. It It didn’t seem like one of your normal reactions. Are you sort of getting the hang of about to keep a lid on at least in the majors? I mean, after the US, you’re getting the hang of sort of finding a balance, aren’t you? Uh, I don’t know. I mean, I was still pretty vocal. Maybe I’m just having to do it away from the microphone. Um, were you telling yourself cuz you were talking trying to Were you trying to g yourself up or were you telling yourself? No. No, it was it was pretty negative stuff. Yeah. You want to share it with us? No. Get me in trouble. Go on. You hit a lot of But you you you’ve always said that you’re very good at um comparative mentalizing and once you’ve had a good chunker, you you sort of focus refocus very quickly. Yeah. I I’ve always felt like I’ve even though I can be losing my like I can get over the next shot and still be still have a clear mind of what I’m still trying to achieve on that shot. So although from the outside it looks like I’ve I’m completely gone. Um in feel like in my own mind I’m I still know what what where I’m at. Do you think you’ll ever change? Do you want to? I’m 33. I don’t think I think that ship sailed to be honest. It does. I mean, but it’s it doesn’t do you any harm, does it, when you uh No, it just means I get stick from you guys generally. So, um but no, I mean, I’m not going to change. It’s just how I am, how I play. Um I’ve always said as long as I’m not it’s then not affecting my playing partners, then sure, if I there’s been times where I’ve probably gone too far and you know, you comment on a putt when they’re putting on the same line and then it maybe affects where they’re hitting their putt, you know, stuff like that. I think that’s part of maybe what you learn as you as you kind of get more experience. Um, so I I do try and avoid that kind of thing. Um, but yeah, I mean, as long as I’m not affecting the other guys, then I I’m not going to change. But in terms of getting the hang of actually uh competing, I mean, obviously Oakmont, you said yourself first time you felt like contending, you bang in the mix here. Uh, and it looks like you, as I say, you’ve got the hang of something. Um, I’d say I mean, I I really enjoyed that experience in Oakmont. I know it wasn’t the the ending of what I’d uh how I’d liked to have played out, but um how I yeah, how I dealt with everything there and even out on the golf course with at the most pressure um I still feel like I hit some really good golf shots. Um, and yeah, so I it’s I kind of left feeling like proud and happy with how I dealt with everything and um, yeah, I mean I’d love to have another chance to to win. Um, so far in a decent position, but we still got a lot of golf left to play. We see I don’t know what the forecast is like for tomorrow and you still got so many amazing players like just starting their round now. So, we’ll see what the the afternoon guys do, where the what the lead goes to, but from my side, it’s been a solid couple of days. Um, so I can’t really complain too much. We like to throw your DNS record at you, which is pretty good on on links. Uh, I mean, do you regard yourself as a link specialist? Uh, no. I mean, I’d say I feel fairly comfortable on links. Um, I feel like I can hit certain shots which you need to do out there. Um, but I mean the the setup at the Dunhill is very different from like what we experienced this week. So for me, I don’t feel like you can compare the the two. Um, obviously I’d love to have three three clar jugs. That would be really nice, but um, yeah, that’s uh pretty pretty hard to do. We saw you at the uh the belly ray course the other night. How how do you enjoy that? It was great. It was um it was nice to go out there. I mean, we played I think in a a six ball. Um and it was nice to just take your mind off the like part of the stress of this week. It was nice to actually go out there and and almost feel like a kid and just enjoy it. I feel it’s easy to to miss that when you’re just going tournament to tournament. And um yeah, it was really fun and uh I mean it was a beautiful evening and I mean I went and had three pints of Guinness afterwards so that was that kind of probably made the evening a bit better. We had um a monk on minus 3 after the first day and he said it helped unwind the stress. How do you unwind the stress after a round? Uh normally a Guinness is a pretty good way to start. Um certainly this week anyway, but uh I don’t know, generally just whether it be in the house and just watching Netflix, something like that, just to get away from golf. Couple more points tonight. Be rude not to. Hopefully I’ve got I think three is the magic number. If you go past three, you’re kind of more level at three. Yeah, two to three cuz it’s you’re definitely not close to a hangover. you still feel like you’ve got I mean hopefully I got a late tea time tomorrow so you can have a lay in as well. You seem to have a nice moment on the team with with B. He’s been around here and and steered someone to victory. Can you share what he said to you? It seemed like most of the moment um to be honest I said I’ll see you later for a pint. But it was a lovely moment. But um no moment later. Yeah. No, he he did say go well this weekend but and yeah, which why I responded, I’ll see you later for a pint. Cheers. Thank you. Cheers guys.

He is fun to watch !!
Excellent round. I enjoy his sense of humor 😊
Who makes the shirt ?
I like Tyrrell, he's a top bloke.
that ship sailed a long time ago! 🤣🤣
Great to have characters like Tyrell in the game.
Scotty wins by 10 on Sunday. He is better than the rest of them by a country mile. He is a good Christian man with great internal strength, and as he said, God and family come first. Golf is just a job for him.
Mad Hatter will win it!
How’d you like to hang with Tyrrell and Darren for a pint🤪
miss him more than any other liv departure. love his reactions!
If I was offered a round with any PGA pro, Tyrrell would be close to the top of my list, a great golfer and character.
Favourite golfer 🇦🇺
I have to put on cc captions to catch all the discussion questions. Weird American I guess.
At 33 I’d have said that too but he will most likely
Watching the open on French tv, we hear every reaction. The Scottish lad on the first day “that was fucking useless!”.
Stand up comedy is his second career after golf lol
I never cared for this guy, but thru the years I've grown to really appreciate him! The thing is, he doesn't give a dam what I think or anyone else! I laugh when he blows up, knowing this is just his drive to succeed taking over in a brief moment of time! Great golfer that doesn't like not performing! Can't fault that in the man! You know exactly what he is thinking, no pretending! Rare these days.
