Thoughts from Round 1:
– This golf course is absolute perfection. If God designed a golf course, this is what He would have made. I have no notes, no revisions. I love everything about it.
– Anything in the red today was a pretty good score.
– The field is still incredibly bunched. 96 players (62%) within 6, 127 (81%) within 8. The drama to make the cut tomorrow is going to be fantastic. And unless a big chunk of the guys who finished under par go out and do something really special tomorrow, anyone making the cut is going to still be in it.
– Really the only fan favorite – and it is obviously not a universal favorite – who hit the EJECT button during Round 1 was Bryson. And only a couple of favorites are in danger of missing the cut as long as they play OK tomorrow.
Really a fantastic round on a terrific course. Gimme more.
Wonder how much time the staff gets between locking the gates after round 1 and opening them for round 2?
Hot take: I’m more than happy with the slow play today and hope it goes into tomorrow. I want to watch as much Rory as I can tomorrow, but am not willing to wake up that early.
