Joint manager Russell Dodd shares his thoughts with Matt Jones following Nuneaton Town’s 8-1 win against Nuneaton Griff in a pre-season friendly.

Next up: Stafford Rangers (A) on Saturday 19th July, 3pm

Russell, uh, first win on the board of preseason. How do you think the game went today? Um, to be fair, Matt, um, as I’ve said, I said to the interview the other days, it’s about getting the team right about getting the squad right. We’ve had a lot of trial. We have two more again tonight. Um, it’s about working to the 26th. So, results are results. We all want to win every game as every team does. It’s not about, yeah, we took our chances today. But I’ve just said to the lads, we played some great stuff, but the important thing is we worked so hard off the ball. Even when we were seven up, we were still squeezing from the front. We were winning the ball high and and we played really well tonight. I can’t can’t fault him because we were from start to finish. And obviously tonight we had Callum Kley back. Um how how much of a difference do you think he made tonight? He makes a massive difference. We know that. Um, and to be fair, because really he’s only the natural left back we’ve got at the club. We haven’t been playing with a a natural left back. We’ve to play Trev there and Dom there and and and hasn’t helped us because Kley overlaps and the balls. You’ve seen the goals tonight. Um, it’s a massive difference and obviously only makes us get on the front foot when he’s playing. And how pleased you to see both Kyle Jardine and Dant score their first goals tonight. Yeah, great. Obviously Carl’s had a few chances and S United game he was just never going to score. keeper was pulling everything off, but struck he struck his goals well and and to be fair, probably could have got a few more and and um listen, I keep saying it about Dante. He’s he’s a player that he’s he’s going to have a great career. Um seen him a few times. I always liked him. Always wanted to get him at the club. Um and I think he’s going to do great for Nathan. And how is that back heel to set up D’s goal as well? Well, was it a back heel or was he losing touch of the ball and he rolled it back to Deck? That’s what I’ve just said to Trev. Yeah, just looking ahead to Saturday. Um, bit of a bit of a tough game away at Stafford. Um, step four, I think they are. Um, you know, and, um, Burough fans of a certain age will remember, you know, the, uh, the old title challenges with them back in the, uh, the naughties. Um, you know, how are we sort of looking to approach that game? What we trying to learn from it? It’d be a massive test. Obviously, Kir manager, Gaff, was a good pal of mine. Um, so I know it’s going to be very tough. his teams aren’t easy to beat. So, the lads have got to be on it. It’s going to help them today because we worked so hard. We’ll train again Thursday. We’ll prepare. We’ll go into the game. We’ll work it as in preseason. We’ll get our shape, get it right, working in the minutes. Um and and then obviously we’ll see what happens. And then Tuesday night, we got another big one with Lemington. So, we just want to be ready that come the 26th we’re ready for the season. Okay. Yeah. Thanks, Russell. Thanks, Matt.
