Right off the bat, the Scotty Cameron Studio Style putters present a neat and tidy look. The head cover has a retro vibe that pays homage to the brand’s legacy. But before we unwrap the actual putter, let’s take a moment to discuss the grip. This new model features a very slimline putter grip, designed to enhance contact with your hand. Scotty Cameron has moved away from the older, tacky grips, opting for a more streamlined approach that feels great during play.

There are 12 new models in total, and I have four or five of them here, including a long design. Let’s unwrap the putters and see what they have to offer!

Exploring the Chain Link Face Technology

As we unveil the putters, it’s clear that they maintain the classic Scotty Cameron silhouette. However, the real standout feature is the new chain link face milled insert. This innovation not only looks cool but also enhances the feel and sound of the putter. Compared to previous models, this new face promises a softer impact, which is a notable shift for Scotty Cameron enthusiasts who are used to a firmer feel.

While the design may not look drastically different from previous models at first glance, it’s the face technology that sets it apart. The chain link design adds a unique touch that enhances both aesthetics and performance.

Soft Feel vs. Firm Feedback

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: how does this new putter perform? I took a few swings with some Pro V1 golf balls to compare the sound and feel with the previous generation. The sound, to my ear, felt quite similar to the older models, but there was a distinct softness in the feel off the face. This is a big deal for some players who prefer a softer touch, especially on faster greens.

However, for those who love the firmer feedback typically associated with Scotty Cameron putters, this change might take some getting used to. It’s essential to consider your playing style: if you gravitate towards a softer feel, you might find this new model appealing. Conversely, if you prefer that classic firm feel, you may need to test it out to see if it suits your game.

Design Variations to Enhance Alignment

Another noteworthy aspect of the new Studio Style putters is the graphic changes on the back. Scotty Cameron has incorporated sight lines designed to help golfers line up their putts more effectively. This is a shift from their traditional designs, which often featured minimal alignment aids. In today’s competitive golfing landscape, where players are looking for every advantage, these enhancements could significantly impact performance.

Among the models available, I have several styles to explore, including the Squareback and Fastback. The Squareback model, with its thicker black line across the back, offers a solid look that enhances the overall alignment. In contrast, the Fastback model, which tapers at the back, doesn’t quite resonate with me visually. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and many golfers will appreciate the aesthetic appeal of each model.

Counterbalanced Long Design

One of the more intriguing additions to the lineup is the long design, featuring a counterbalanced option. This design is making a comeback and is increasingly popular among golfers looking for improved stability and alignment. The long putter, combined with enhanced alignment features, could be a game-changer for players who struggle with consistency in their putting.

It’s fascinating to see Scotty Cameron embracing this trend after years of focusing primarily on traditional putter designs. The long, counterbalanced putter could help players who need extra support while maintaining a classic Scotty Cameron feel.

Testing the New Putters

As I put these putters to the test, I couldn’t help but appreciate the balance and weight distribution. The design remains true to what we expect from Scotty Cameron, with an emphasis on maintaining the integrity of their classic shapes. The grip, while slim, felt comfortable and allowed for a natural swing motion.

Overall, the Studio Style putters are clean and sophisticated. The combination of new technology and traditional design principles is a winning formula. While some golfers may feel hesitant about the softer face, I believe the unique features and aesthetic appeal make these putters worth exploring.

  1. Did extensive testing on the Fastback 1.5 against my Phantom 5.5 and absolutely loved it and bought it. The feel is beautiful. Look at address for me was spot on. Just gorgeous. Feel is incredible.

  2. Basically copied odyssey versa line. Which makes sense because one of the odyssey guys now works for Scotty.

  3. Man the feel might be soft but I felt like the face was HOT. Really like how easily the ball comes off the face. I got a flow back 5 special select and while I love it I constantly left the ball short of the the hole. Not with this. Ill be interested to see if betti makes a run and the fastback/jailbird shape next year..

  4. I went in to test out the LD SquareBack 2 and was amazed at how soft the face felt and how hot the the ball came off the face with such a good roll…. I fully expected each putt to come up short but every time I was either at the hole or just past. I never liked soft insert putters before this but I can see putting this one in the bag……

  5. I picked up the fastback and immediately knew this was my new gamer. Feels great and ball jumps off the face. It’s a keeper!

  6. I got the new fastback in counterbalance. Love it, the feel is great off the face and it just lines up great.

  7. Wish they would get rid of that crappy velcro headcover, it never holds well over time. Let's get with the times and add some magnets….
