Today we are comparing the new Ping i240 iron against the Ping i530 iron. [Music] So two clubs that sit in this Ping range. I240 has just been released. This has replaced the I230. Uh, and we’ve had this hollowbodied i530 now for quite a while in the ping range. So, two clubs you might be interested in trying today. We’re just going to hit a few shots with each. Give you some key tech, some key numbers in terms of what the difference is. On the outset, this i240 early testing has been positive. This is very much a players iron. Okay. But what they what they’ve tried to do in this new model is they they’ve tried to make make it more forgiving. They’ve got the cavity back uh in the sort of back of the head, but from a playing standpoint in that playing position, it is, you know, a little bit smaller. In terms of the i530, well, being really popular this kind of first year or so, very much that hollow bodied, very quick, powerful, quite forgiving. If you’re a bit unsure, let’s let’s hit a few shots with each club. Uh let’s see what the difference is. So, the first difference in the sort of plane position, well, there’s an obvious difference in the loft, 33° I240 at 29° in this i530. So, clearly we know the i530 will go further. Uh, looks wise, well, what’s quite interesting straight away here is that what Ping have said with the i240s, they’ve actually made the grooves wider for more spin off the fairway, where the i530 was more about actually increasing the number of grooves. these micromat screws to get more spin out of the roof to to avoid the flyers. So quite different from that point of view, but yeah, I mean they’re both quite nice, but yeah, clearly the the i240 is better, you know, aesthetically. Let’s kick off with with this i240. Let’s hit a few shots with it. Yeah, pretty solid. Again, what I liked about trying this was the spin number. Spin number is good. I like that 58. Feels like we’re going to get some good stopping power with this club. Yeah, pretty good. Again, it feels nice. You know, the, you know, the the elastimate insert that they’ve put in here um allows it to feel soft without it kind of, you know, the cast head. You wouldn’t expect it to feel soft, but it does. So, it does help with that sound. And there is, you know, they they’re speaking a lot about increasing MOI on this again by trying to get that insert lower. Again, just to stress, you know, the big thing they’re talking about here is trying to blend this new cavity back that they’ve got in this along with the kind of player shaping. So, they are I think with this iron, it’s almost like they’re trying to maybe appeal to more golfers. You know, probably that I230 was generally lower handicappers. I think they’re probably trying to squeeze the handicap range up a little bit with this to add a bit more forgiveness in there. Yeah, felt nice. Decent distance. One nearly 170 carry there. Again, good stopping power. Good land angle there. 48°. Nice. Yeah, very good. Yeah, it feels nice. And you know, remember Ping brought out that I230 in March 22. Okay. So, we’re we’re over 3 years on. And I like that from Ping. They’re not bringing things out all the time. So, you’d like to think if this is over 3 years on that there is quite a big difference between this new 240 and the the 230. Just leak that out a touch. Okay, let’s just try one more. Okay, pretty good. Yeah, I I like it. You know, it for for me as a golfer, it probably fits into my category really. It feels great. You It really does. There’s a little bit of help in there as well. I’d have I mean, every player is different, aren’t they? But, you know, I would have confidence that most golfers under probably 12, 10 handicap would have no issue trying this. Okay, so now into this i530. Quick break. If you’re enjoying this video and want to take your game to the next level, I’ve put together a short practical ebook to help you find the right golf clubs for you based on your swing budget and skill level. Whether you’re a beginner or upgrading after years on the course, you can grab it right now using the link in the description below. It’ll save you time, money, and frustration. As a bonus, I’m offering a free online lesson when you buy the ebook. Back to the video. So, interesting enough, this is a forged face uh compared to cast in uh the i240, but Pinger saying this this prime the primarily goal for this club is distance. Okay. So, more emphasis on ball speed, more on distance. Again, as I said, the uh the loft, this is 29°. So, 4° stronger than the i240. Yeah. So, you can see there ball speed has just jumped up quite considerably there up to 124. Uh it was at kind of 118 119. So, yes, definitely more ball speed. 184 carry there. So, about 15 yards longer. But again, for for a hollowbodied club, it feels quite nice. Not too clicky, not too loud. I guess that you know, the big thing we’re seeing here is that spin number is obviously quite low. Yeah, partially down to the the loft, but at 4,300 there, you’re not going to get the stopping power. So, 181 carry, 194 total there. So, we’ll look at the the numbers at the end, but to me, this is going to be the challenge. you know, if you if you are somebody that hits the ball a reasonable distance and you know, you you want to hold the greens, I’m not sure this is the one for you. Okay? But remember, if you’re somebody that maybe is quite short, you need the distance, then you know, clearly it is. So, it is very personal to to you. Yeah. Came out hot. 126 ball speed there. Yeah, that was a hot one. Felt nice. Decent hit. Just cut it a little bit though. Quite a long way right actually. Although that felt okay. It’ll be interesting looking at the the numbers though. Um my feeling is obviously it’s going to be longer. Spin’s just a touch low on this. Be interesting to see the dispersion. Yeah. But I did enjoy hitting that. you know that that was nice to hit it. It’s just very hot, you know. So, again, think about your own game. Let’s take a look initially at this dispersion. Okay, so I240 in the white I530 in the orange. Now, that dispersion has surprised me. You look at how tight the 530 is. Yes, there’s that one big miss to the right. Taking that out of it, that is that is tight. Okay, so again, it shows the forgiveness of the uh the 530. Um, again, 240 is decent. Again, there’s just that one shot, isn’t there, that sort of flared out to the right. Other than that, again, it is pretty good. So, let’s look at some key numbers. Um, at 530 at the top, 240 at the bottom. Uh, balls club speed similar. 86 and 87. Big difference in ball speed there, isn’t there? 116 to 123, 124. So, yeah, clearly, you know, Pinger saying it’s a distance club. It definitely is. launching a bit lower as you’d expect uh stronger loft but overall height is the same which which is interesting which is good 91 to 93 feet but that spin number again for me is too low 4,600 the 59 there with the i240 is ideal so you can see the land angle 44.8 8 ft on the i530 again is too low. It’s going to it’s going to stop and release too much. Um 20 hours difference there in terms of distances. 162 for 170, 182 for 194. Certainly yeah 20 hours difference in terms of the carry number. Um total actually 24 y difference there. Um and interesting enough the side there plus orus 36 ft plus or minus 38 ft. So quite an interesting test guys. Um interesting enough there. you’d probably say the 530 performed really well. It was longer obviously. Dispersion was very good, but it’s just a bit too hot for my game. So, for me, I would definitely go I240. But again, think about your own game. See which one uh best suits you. As always, if this is your first time watching the channel, please don’t hesitate to subscribe. I’ll look forward to seeing you again very

  1. These clubs not comparable like this.^You need i530 8i vs i240 7I. Then they carry around same. THen spin will be similar. Landing angle, similar. Its amazing you did LOWEr dispersion, massively, with 1 more club. You effectively hit a 6i with way less dispersion than a 7i. In every single metric, the i530 destroyed that i240. And it will be even worse if you compare 8i vs i240 7i.
