ORANGE, CT. (WFSB) – For more than 20 years, the Walter Camp Football Foundation has run a charity golf tournament. This year it came to Orange!
It turned out to be a great day for golf at Racebrook Country Club.
The atmosphere was wonderful and the course was in great shape as more than 100 participants swung away.
However, it wasn’t all about golf for some of the participants.
“I like to come out here. It’s a very good fellowship. I like to have fun with the guys I’m playing with,” said Tommy Frazier, a former quarterback for the University of Nebraska.
“An event with a lot ex professional playing. And coming to give back,” said Tebucky Jones, a former Patriot and Syracuse player.
Jones was also a standout for New Britain High School.
The Walter Camp foundation is always thinking out of the proverbial box to continue to honor the alumni of past generations.
That’s what the golf weekend does as well as honor two new ring of honor inductees: George Rogers, a former Heisman Trophy winner, and Notre Dame’s Jeff Burris.
“It’s been amazing to come back. I’ve grown over the years and coming back and being around people. That’s what Walter Camp is all about,” said Burris.
The gatherings also serve as the perfect place for people to bring their spouses and show them a little more special care and treatment.
“This is actually my first time on the course. And my first time in New Haven. Just seeing him meet people and being honored. It’s just been a great day,” said Brenda Wilson, George Rogers’ wife.
More than $30,000 will be spread around to local charities.
