Yankees starter Max Fried has been the ace of the staff since the start of the season, so when he allowed four runs and exited after the third inning of their 5-2 loss to the Cubs, there was definite cause for concern. A recurring blister was the culprit but Fried, manager Aaron Boone and captain Aaron Judge are hoping the All-Star break will allow Fried to return to full health.

Aaron Max, read with his index finger and is
blistered, is that some of that popped up during the starter
before? Yeah. Yeah, he’s dealt with them
before. This is different, but popped up
at the end there did it happen? Ahead of today’s start
ordering the out know during yeah. Is it that all concerning he has missed time of the past? Yeah, yeah, I mean, we’ll see, you
know what, you know, he’s dealt with a little bit even this year
and been treated pretty well. So we’ll just see how the next day’s unfold. What made Boyd’s
fastball/changeup combo? So difficult. Yeah, I mean just the
variance and speed, you know, obviously he’s having a
really good year. I mean that’s a a typical outing against us where You know, usually if a guy
shutting us down, you know, there’s a lot of
pitches he was really efficient. So he was ahead in
the count all day. You know, we, I thought we got some good
swings off on them. We hit some balls hard, but he was really efficient, and,
and the change of speed, you know, like he he, he could throw
you that 70 mile-an-hour, breaking ball and then had 95 to
kind of rush you with it kind of back and forth with
that, you know. So he did a good job,
had a lead and got after the strike zone, what do you
feel is leading? To the mistakes from loaiza go
being punished. Yeah, I mean, because today was so good to and you know, it’s the one pitch
there and I mean that’s I mean I’ve said a lot up here
with when it comes to low, it’s that next level of just You know the that fine line
between being dominant and and you know getting hit a little
bit and especially right he’s you know hitting the ball out of
the yard against them is just very uncommon again today
on the heels of what was very lowish in a lot of ways
like rifle and right through that first inning there, you
know, gets two strikes and just, you know, flips one in there.
So, that’s where we got to. We got
to get them there because the stuff is in line and it’s there. But we got to get that next
level of precision and execution with them. Brendan. Not in any way trying to make
light of it. But I don’t really know how to gauge blister
severity. Just the way it was a big one, is it? Yeah, I mean, it’s good one. Like he definitely had
to come out right. And is this significantly
worse than what? He’s dealt with throughout the
year? Or was he able to Tamp down? We’ll see. Ya will say, Joe Yeah, look righties and lefties for
low different. Like when he’s at his best like right, he’s are
really struggle against him with that Sinker and stuff.
There’s been a couple rice arose Arena, got him out the
other way on a sinker out over that he didn’t
get kind of where he wanted. He
jumped him first pitch this time. It’s a two strike and he
just kind of rolls in a breaking ball. That’s sits there on a tee a little
bit. I don’t think it was like a spinner or a bad one. One, it
just location, you know, more in line with the
hanger. So Again like you know we’ve talked
about a number of guys we’ve set up here with and
talked about guys going through different struggles and with most of them including low,
like I don’t feel like this is a man which we have to
reinvent it because we have a struggling guy. It’s his
stuffs down, it’s not. It’s where it needs to be again. You
know, it’s Whether you want attribute that
to, you know, you know, obviously having the
surgery coming back and knocking off that rust. I feel
like he should be there now, but I just think it’s that next
level of execution, because in most of these outings you’re
seeing low, it’s, it’s a lot of like, ball on the ground, right? He’s
struggling with them, right? He’s not wanting to face that,
you know, and even even today, you know,
with some lefties. I thought he executed The Change-Up really
well. Like, Tucker really back and forth. Tucker look, delete
little uncomfortable with them so just that next level. Yeah. No. Yeah. Like I don’t think it’s I don’t think it’s the Sinker
necessarily, I don’t think it’s the breaking ball or The
Change-Up, it’s just overall, next level of execution. That’s
the fine line between dominating and, you know,
getting hit a little bit Gary. Gary, I was going to ask about the
singer and if you thought there was anything to the idea that
the leaks caught up to it and adjust it to it. And if that’s
hurting him, I don’t know. I mean, I don’t think so. You know, because for the most part it’s doing
it’s getting the result. He normally gets its a handful of mistakes. Now
obviously guys are going to go hunt certain things against
them, you know they’ll sell out certain times against them
because they have to you know but Comes down to an execution
thing. I think wrong. You said with Max, he’s
had it before, but this is different. How is it different?
Did I say it’s different? Yeah, I did. I thought you did. I mean I don’t know yet, he’s had
blisters in the past. I think they asked that question about
blisters. I know he it is something he’s
dealt with in the past and we’ll see how this one
transpires and with Aaron and see him every day. By reaching
350 homers, not just the fastest. Yeah, almost 200
games. Faster is wow. Yeah. I mean, I don’t know what
to say about it because he, I just think he’s playing in a
different League, really? You know I just had a moment
with them and they’re just congratulating them on it like
that too. Pretty big number along the way, you know, and the fact that it’s 200 games, Just Testament to his greatness.
You ever sit down and watch what he does. And
think how long it would take you to accumulate those numbers, I think I’ve run out of time there. And clap. Are we going to the bottom of
the ninth inning, was your discussion with the couple of
the umpires? Just just the safe call the fact that you had to
challenge something that you thought and I feel like in those
scenarios it should be especially when there’s some
uncertainty and a call like I don’t see something. I think they should be
challenged that call where a guy takes off
and you’re out by 10 feet. We had this, I had this debate
with you, Detroit and I had this conversation with it so I understand it’s tough. But
I just hate to get in those situations
where a guy is dead. Out is out, we go Challenge and
maybe there’s that one camera angle. You don’t necessarily
have the conclusive, and I’m going to lose my mind. So so I just wanted to make sure
like if there’s any E in that call, he should be
out. They should have the challenge. That’s all if you
see it and he’s safe and you saw it or a men like you’re right. But
that’s all. So I it’s just the one of those
things that, you know, gets me going. Clap aren’t just one last
follow-up on free. When did you become aware that he was having
trouble with the blister? Was it in the second first? Or with
it happened? Spontaneously, it was that towards at the end
at the end of the third and yeah, when at birdie it ripped Dan. What was the catcher’s
interference situation going on there? With Wells. You know, there was
no good right but what were they take
their that he touched his foot and with freed you know he is
last. Few starts haven’t been as good. Was there anything
going on? Not necessarily blister wise, but was there
anything health-wise or any indication of this coming on before today? No, again, he’s had minor things
where, you know, he’s at a recover
between with with maybe a Lister here and there. But no, I think I think today was just, I thought stuff wise, and like he was kind of electric with his
stuff. I think he had a little bit of a hard time
harnessing it early and so the strike throwing wasn’t
there to what it normally is. So this, you know, I thought the
stuff was good. It was just fine in that location and
finding the command. That was a struggle today. I would say the, it was
literally just one pitch. It was the second to last pitch,
too. And it was just threw the
fastball and I kind of felt it go and, you know, through the change of
put the next pitch and was able to get out of the inning, these
issues cost you time in the past. You
feel like this is severe based
on your past experiences. So it’s early to tell you, no good thing is we have the break and being able
to try to do as much as we can as far as timelines. I I don’t know, I don’t know.
Exactly, you know how this one is going
to shake out. It’s a lot of times you just have to
see how it starts healing over
the over the next couple days. I
became an issue. Did it feel like you were searching for four pitches and
early on the stock? Yeah, I mean, I just, I was bad. Like
I just, I just wasn’t good, you know, not being able to execute
pitches and, you know, get outs when I needed
them and, you know, just kind of is just unfortunate timing that I was, you know, I was grinding
and then You know it popped up at the end. I don’t want to especially if
I’m grinding be out early in the game. Don’t
don’t the bullpen to have to wear it. So you know, it’s just
frustrating not being able to cover as many innings and be
able to stay out there. Well, this prevents you from going to
Atlanta. From these are equal this
prevents you from. Since you got to take care of
the finger God no I’m still going on going to become important for it. Naturally
occur. Once it’s in a season is really an offseason for. In
other words, once you have it, are you more likely to have to
deal with this a lot? Again, I would say that, it’s It’s kind of just each case has
its own its own thing, sometimes, sometimes it is, but more times
than not, you just let the let the skin
heal and then you normally don’t have too many
issues you would send December that, a
lot of Atlanta was the humid. Hot weather was that the same
thing here, with the heat the last few weeks and Sun
causing? I mean, it was I would say, it
wasn’t the hardest game that we’ve had all year, definitely,
you know, on the, on the warmer side and No, don’t don’t necessarily know exactly why. But yeah, it’s definitely
frustrating signs of it before I just popped and it was literally just one pitch
on Affeldt. Yeah. I mean, the, its Not, it’s every kind of, like I
said before, every, every case is its own thing, you know, definitely definitely didn’t want to do too
much where I want to catch it. Hopefully
before it became a real, big, big deal. You know, definitely was uncomfortable enough to the
point where you didn’t want to risk more and it was going to affect my pitches so, yeah, just you know the next
couple days you’re going to be Big and just being able to
evaluate on how, you know how long, how long I
need is your the second last picture? I felt it go I felt I felt it. Basically,
there was no blister and then after the pitch there was
poster, is there anything that treatment-wise is done for this
or it’s just the skin heals on its own and he’ll skin heals,
you know, there’s different different, you know,
creams and modalities and things that we can do to try to
help speed up the process. But At the end of the day, it’s just not missing any all the stories
in history like Nolan, Ryan and pickle. Brine,
is that old wives tale or is right? I’ve tried a little, the
everything, every wives tale, every, every piece of equipment that has been
available, I’m I’m willing to try anything to
try to just speed it up and try to keep it away. It’s been carried out as part of being a That part of this is Beginnings.
Number four pitchers have walls during the
season? No, I mean, I feel like for the most part of than throwing the ball process-wise, same sum over the last couples, just some unfortunate timing on runs
and home runs and today it was facing a good team.
That was battling y’all. Just one of those crimes
but it’s a long year. So I’m I still
like the way that I’ve been throwing the ball and I’m excited to get back out
there in the second half, my 192 games that white of a margin when you
hear that, what comes to mind? I also got nothing to be honest. Not have been great. If we got a
win today, you do something like that. But I’ve, I’ve been surrounded by a
lot of great teammates, but not some good teams. So it really
put me in the best position to go out there and perform my
best. So, you know, it’s really just a
shout out to him with teammate about over the years. I think that’s easy for you to
go out after just 3 inches. What’s your reaction grade? I just hope, nothing. Serious is
going on. Haven’t heard yet what it is,
but No, I don’t think it’s anything
serious and especially I think it’s good timing with the break.
Coming up, I get a chance for him to recover, get everything
right and kind of get re locked in for the second
half. He’s kind of been our. You can erase all year are so young guys. So he’s been the one that whenever
we’re in trouble or need a big outing or something. Even
the guys, almost kept up for us all season long. So you get a little concerned when
you get when a guy like that comes out, but I don’t think
it’s anything, anything crazy, it’ll be ready to go for a
second. It said, In The Dugout about
matching, boy, You know, seeing Boyd, you know, quite a bit. It came up with Toronto, Simon
Detroit song with Cleveland last year, if I’m in the
postseason, he’s a great picture. We’re
looking at picture works, all quadrants works. All
his pitches, he just has a good time. He did
a good job. Just really feel like attacking his own the
times. You think he may be flipping the curveball
flipping, something off-speed, he kind of came with a heater.
So I think he just kind of got us a little in between and
he’s been a great picture for quite a few years. So Speak.
Some of the type of year, he’s having this year. So he has
sometimes tip your cap and I got goes out there and does something like that. If you approach met, McGuire had
a chance to talk to him about getting I’ll talk to McGuire. Oh yeah.
Oh yeah what was his vice view? What
have you picked up from him over the years? Wouldn’t talk much didn’t? I
think it’s really getting to getting to know each other a
little bit talked about his son a little bit, it’s time to get
into it so nothing crazy. Big Mac did a lot
of great things in this game and he’s like he’s
definitely a legend so it’s cool. No I got the opportunity
to kind of meet him and talk with him on the phone a little
bit. So he’s a special one that’s for
sure. I think it started with when I broke my first rib. I
think his son was kind of going through the same thing. So he’s
first asking how to out of that he’ll do we do. So I kind of gave him some tips on
that and then we just kind of chipped out a
little bit I can contact. So
he’s nice. He’s been great.

  1. Pitching schedule is wrong
Why Rodin and fried straight is wrong
    Another pitcher should be between

  2. got to give credit to good pitching boyd shut us down the offense just couldn't do anything against boyd hopefully we can salvage the series and win it tomorrow.

  3. The bottom line is the last few starts he has not pitch well, that’s the bottom line. Rodon is more maligned, gets brunt of criticism but he has gotten better the last few starts. But Max has gotten a free pass the last few starts.

  4. That Loisiga comment was spot on accurate, he's either having an outing where he's locked in and showing his really filthy stuff or he's having an outing where he's a little bit off and it's not a horrendous moment but it's just enough to make the difference for the other teams.

  5. SNY ?! Let us not speak falsely now. Fried bad luck is something unavoidable ! On the other hand – THE INCOMPETENCE & LACK OF COURAGE TO CALL PLAYS WITH RUNNERS ON BASE = BOONE'S EPIC FAILS COTING BETTER THAN A DOZEN LOSSES. A Legacy SO HAL HESITATES, CASHMAN BROUGHT BOONE IN – So Worse it reflects on Brian if he admits it. Time to get a manager NOT AFRAID to call Squeeze-Play, STEALS, Hit & Run, BUNT to advance / score runners from third. TOO MANY TIMES RUNNERS ON THIRD / SECOND & THIRD *with NO OUTS and not a run across. THAT tells the players THEY GET NO HELP FROM A TIMID LEADER. Time to go Boonie !!!! Hal has to be like George was = ENOUGH ! NEW BLOOD !!

  6. My question is: if you knew before that he had this blister on his left hand finger (and he’s a lefty), why on earth would you have him pitch in the first place?
Put him on IL for a couple of weeks and he’ll be back perfect-pitching, in the meantime you’re not gifting the first 3 innings to the Cubs.

  7. A chronic blister condition on his pitching hand is yet another blow to the Yankees's 2025 World Series aspirations.
