BARTLETT, Tenn. (WMC) – A new housing development proposed in Bartlett’s Board of Alderman Tuesday would completely change what is now the Quail Ridge Golf Course.

During the meeting course owner Jarod Wilder said it is time for them to look into something new.

“Our time as a golf course came to an end and we have been working since then to try and figure out what is the future of this property and what can we do,” Wilder said.

Since 1994 the course has hosted different tournaments and been a spot locals enjoy.

The proposal would turn the course into a residential space that encompasses 216 lots for single-family detached homes, 30 of which will be age-restricted 55-plus. The proposal would also add Amenities which include a walking trail, pavilion and pickleball courts.

People who live on the course said they have some hesitation with a bunch of houses going up.

“It is a really nice course, it is a really nice area, and this course is the sole reason I moved here,” William Coulter said.

“It doesn’t look nice; it is the start of what the future is going to hold,” Rickey Shelton said.

Both Williams Coulter and Rickey Shelton’s homes back up to the course and they said part of the reason they bought their property was because they enjoyed having it in their backyard.

“It is just going to take away the beauty of that open space, and the beautiful golf course is the sole reason I moved here,” Coulter said.

“Nothing is prettier than when there is a little bit of snow we have and you look out and it is pristine white, no footprints and you can admire the beauty of it,” Shelton said

Shelton in particular is worried about property values, saying the course, when open, makes their plot of land more desirable.

“It will be taken away from us, dollar wise I don’t know what it will do, but it won’t help property values I know that,” Shelton said.

Now people in that neighborhood will have a chance to make their voices heard at a special community meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, July 15, at the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center at 5:30 p.m.
