Max Homa has finally got himself in contention to win on the PGA Tour again after making the weekend at the John Deere Classic just one shy of the leaders.

After struggling for what seems like an eternity now, Homa has fired back in rounds one and two at the John Deere to sit among a cluster of players at -11 and just one shy of Doug Ghim at the summit.

Homa is desperately looking for something in his game and in doing so, is looking for a first win on TOUR since the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open.

Thankfully, it seems like the American is finally getting something going in his game.

However, with conditions tricky at TPC Deere Run and any mistakes punishable, Homa has admitted there’s one particular tee shot that is hard.

Golfers always need to hit difficult shots and the professionals sometimes have it harder than ever when it comes to even getting off the tee.

With 17 being a long par five that offers a tricky dog leg left to tempt players down that side, it’s always a hard one to judge.

And according to Homa, it’s simply a tee shot that is nothing less than difficult.

“Yeah, it’s definitely awkward. I like to cut the ball and that hole, you know, sets up for a bit of a draw. But what’s nice is the way I was swinging it, it didn’t have a ton of curve of it the last two days, so I’m able to hit a have you small cut, and if I just get some air under it,” Homa said

“It’s definitely an uncomfortable tee shot, but I like the way I wedge it, so it feels like a free ball. If I miss the fairway, I layup and get to hit a wedge in there ten feet.

“So that’s kind of the benefit of some of those holes out here, is it’s not a mass amount of penalties on some holes; some you do. A lot look okay to my eye, so that’s — 17 kind of gives you a free swing at it and just tried to hit like kind of a high cut.”

US golf needs Max Homa back to winning ways

There are certain players who are either too good to go this long without a win, or are just nice guys that you want to see do well.

In Max Homa’s case, he probably falls under both.

Right now, no win in two years is not good enough for a player of his calibre and when you throw in just how popular he is, it’s even more painstaking for fans.

Now, though, Homa is in with a great chance and if he can use his quality and experience in a packed field, we might just see him come out on top. Finally.
