Former LIV Golf sensation Eugenio Chacarra has nabbed a spot at this year’s Scottish Open, opening the door for him to compete in a PGA Tour event.

The 25-year-old golfer jumped ship to LIV in 2022 and quickly notched a win on the Saudi-funded tour with a triumph in Bangkok. He stayed with LIV until his shift this year to the DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour.

Chacarra wasted no time making waves on the DP World Tour, clinching the Hero Indian Open in March. Next up, he’s eyeing up his inaugural PGA Tour victory at the Scottish Open. The tournament is hosted by the DP World Tour but enjoys co-sanctioning from the PGA Tour.

Earlier this year, Chacarra voiced dissatisfaction with LIV, claiming that the league’s chiefs failed to deliver on their promises. “When I joined LIV, they promised OWGR and majors,” he expressed, as reported by Golfweek.

“But it didn’t happen. I trusted them.

“I was the first young guy, then the others came after I made the decision. But OWGR and majors still hasn’t happened. It’s frustrating, but I’m excited for the new opportunity and to see where my game takes me.”

Chacarra is carving out his legacy on the DP World Tour, aiming to lock down a full PGA Tour card. While expressing gratitude for all LIV provided, stating his “life is set,” he perceives LIV as being “only about the money.”

He remarked: “I see what it’s like to win on the PGA Tour and how your life changes. How you get major access and ranking points.

“On LIV, nothing changes, there is only money. It doesn’t matter if you finish 30th or first, only money. I’m not a guy who wants more money. What will change my life is playing in Hawaii and qualifying for the majors, qualifying for the Masters, the Ryder Cup.”

Chacarra made his first appearance at a major during last year’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst, but he didn’t make the cut as Bryson DeChambeau emerged victorious.

His second shot at a major was during this year’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, but just like before, he missed the cut while Scottie Scheffler took home his third major victory. Chacarra has yet to participate in the Masters or The Open Championship.

The once LIV-affiliated pro still faces a steep climb to become a regular at the majors. He’s not within the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking, currently holding his personal best at 138th.

Chacarra will be challenged by one of the most competitive fields in golf at the Scottish Open, which kicks off this Thursday at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Stars such as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, and reigning champion Bob MacIntyre will all compete in Scotland.

The Scottish Open is seen as the ideal warm-up event before The Open, the year’s final major, where the world’s top golfers hone their links skills. Chacarra has not qualified for this tournament, which will tee off at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland in just 12 days. Schauffele holds the title of defending Open champion.
