Spent a little time on the PGA tour. Back now and enjoying life on the DP World Tour once again. And how about this? What a lovely chip in the Schwab. Good opening day. Round of 693 on the path and he surely can. That’s a salute pear off the first and long. He’s just given Kima 30 yards there. Three great T- shots. Oh, we’re creative with the hands shaping the ball. I went to watch him hit balls, David, as we see that lovely second shot. Slightly different outfit than we used to see, but same result. Birdie’s coming climbers way. Level part at the moment is Anel Ayora. This for Birdie at the fifth. And yes, lovely. Gets himself under path for the day. He never gets up or down. He’s a very sort of what you call a flat liner in terms of his emotion. He’s talking to it. Oh yeah, it’s a good shot. Really great shot. That is control that way. Was don’t go any further. It’s the ninth and is also a par five as you can see. And that is a lovely eagle three for the champion of last week’s Italian Open. What a nice thing to be able to say. Italian Open champion. Nothing but net para birdie start into the red he goes into the top 10 with that Ka Nakajima. So, we have our eye on you with a wedge. Superb. Ferguson wasn’t lacking in momentum at this time last year when he marched at home. Cracker. That’s one of the best we’ve seen. The best spot to play from on this hole can von Delings and make the most of it. Well, that’s you get what you deserve sometimes in this game. Jump over to 18. The final hole of Nathan Kimy. How does the day end? It’s been a good back nine. 10 straight pars and then four birdies since the 11 onwards. uh including that round of 68 for Nathan today. Unlikely you’d go for it. I’d rather be playing from here with a wedge in your hand. Screw it back to the hole here. Use the little ridge. Yeah. Well done, John Perry. That’s better. So, I never really enjoyed them. Nakajima will enjoy that. Can he go over? Yes, he can. That’s an excellent second. Pinpoint accuracy from Caner. That is uh it’s funny you David pooch. Is it? Oh, it does. I guess you say perfect pace. Now Marcel Seam was on the bottom tier at the seventh. Von Dling has got just over the ridge. So slightly easier putt and obviously a third of the length and he’s capitalized. Great putt. Great birdie. We’ll do that and I’m a bad judge. Someone else come over and take this microphone and escort me to the front gate. Mark’s on his way. He’s just left the commentary box. He’s he’s he’s he’s running. Went out to Royal Sink Ports before he came here. Didn’t quite qualify. Missed by two for the open, but it’s good to see him fit again at least. Caner into nine beauty. 28 yds on that flag. So, it’s right at the back of the green. 472 yds. It’s down out the right for Caner. Work the ball against the wind with his natural fade. Oh, to there. That’s a splendid shot. Von Delings wedge from a long way down there, wasn’t it? Makes a difference.
He’ll be looking to take this about 20 ft right to carry that front left bunker. Perry’s in that bunker after playing out of the right rough. He had a brilliant lie. What a shot. Shot of the day comes at 11 and it comes from Lori Caner.
Point that where you want it to go. So pretty straight on this occasion. Right half and in. Very deliberate tempo on the takeaway. Great ball striker Manel. Lovely golf swing. That sort of slow rhythm and then just a beautiful slow acceleration. There you go. Another example of really is a sort of middle of the green and a big high cut if you can do it. That’s the right shoulder. That’s a cracker.
Very, very good.
Two beauties there from Woo and Manel. Superb. Wind kicking up just a little bit behind Caner. Irons have been laser-like so far. Add another to the pack for Lori Caner. He’ll have that to tie the lead. Straight up a little step. It’s quite slow this out of his right once it gets here. Will that spark catch for Marcel Seain? this fourpath for Reed. You said he wasn’t going to get that up and down. the swing of the putter. It wasn’t quite to be Iora. He’s a fine young player. Wesley Brian where his brother is [Applause] Nakajima. Can he find the one? Well, it was a good effort. That’s a super shot. Um, makes it just on the right side. So he gets within a shot of the lead. Not
sure why you put your hand on my shoulder as you gave that line mark. Ugo Cuso popping it in from 12 foot. Going nicely. Now this is Pablo at the 18th and he’s got one. Yeah. How about that beautiful finish? She loves a crowd. He loves to have a cheer. You go, Kuso. Is he going to make it? Yes, he is. There you go. Look at that little turn in at the end there. I mean, what a run it’s been this season for all of these French players. Well, he’s held on to the cup this time and twizzled it. He likes it. Oh, he loves it. What a shot from scene at 18. Wow. [Music] That’s an epic finish saying the real royal battle and I can read. Smith now he’s found the right portion of fairway. It’s a very smooth swing that creates a lot of power. Oh, just once to experience a couple of shots like that. bang in the middle and that would have given Jordan Smith a share of the lead. And it’s going to be a very fine opening day of 68. [Applause] Uh, Penge takes control of the ninth, finds the birdie. Good work from the edge of the green and a nice closing hole. Marco, thanks for joining us. Eight birdies, one bogey, and a double in a round of 5 under 67. Give us your verdict on the day and and why it was so up and down.
Yeah, know obviously had a great start uh starting Birdie Birdie on 10 and 11. Uh, I felt pretty in control of my game. Um, you know, when I birdie 16, par 17, I thought, right, I’ve got some good chances coming up, you know, especially with 18 being probably like one of the easiest I was on the course. But, um, yeah, seven there didn’t help didn’t help the day. But, um, yeah, just one of them things. Uh, I hit it in the water off the tea and made a bit of a mess of it, but um, played great on the back n is really steady.
You’re one of the longest hitters on tour. How much can you use that advantage on this particular course? Yeah, this course is one that I’ve been looking forward to coming back to. Um I like personally I feel like for a long hitter there’s it’s quite a few big advantages. Um quite a lot of T- shots that you can kind of gain a lot of strokes. Um so yeah, it’s nice to be at a golf course where you can kind of let it let it rip a bit and you know coming from last week. Last week was like the polar opposite. So I was really looking forward to coming here.
13th in the race of Dubai right now into the second half of the season. you’re in position to claim one of those 10 PJ tour cards. How high is that on your agenda of goals and how excited about that possibility?
Yeah, it’s it’s like my biggest it’s my goal my main goal for the season really. Um, you know, my my goal coming back was to win and I achieved that and then, you know, myself and my team kind of reset the goals and just kind of making sure you keep your foot to the for the to the, you know, to the ground and so easy to it’s easy for like anyone to get a bit complacent at times and I’ve made that mistake in the past. So my main goal this year was to not get complacent at all and uh me and myself and my team are just kind of staying in a bit of a tunnel and trying to get that achieve that goal.
