The Ladies European tour this week in Ireland for the second year in a row, the KPMG Women’s Irish Open coming from Carton House Fairmont on the Omira course. The poster goal for the event is Leona Magguire, the Soulheim Cup star with an opening round of 72 that left her at one under park. Big names in the field this week, not just Meuire. Charlie Hull, the world number 19 with a lovely birdie there at the 13th on her way to a round of 70. Three under par. Leaves her three shots off the lead. World number one amateur. The Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion of 2024, Lotty W showing her class with a bogey free round of 68 that left her at five under par. Meline Sagstrom producing one of the shots of the day. This at the fourth set her up for an eagle. It took her at the time to eight under par. Fortunately, she followed it with a triple bogey 7, but a round of 68 leaves her nicely placed. Lisa Pison came to close to winning this event a couple of years ago when she lost in a playoff. Another one who didn’t drop a shot. 685 under par in this past 73. Last year’s number one Kiara Tambellini though went one shot better a 67 leaving her at six under par finished top five here last year and that score matched in the afternoon by Spanish rookie Blanca Fernandez birdie at the last for her round of 67 and they are the two to catch going in to Friday’s second round. Hannah Green and Alexander Swain also amongst the group who shot five under on day one.
