Welcome back. Three local golf courses hosted the Texas Youth Classica golf tournament for boys and girls to compete against each other and sharpen those skills. Cottonwood Creek and Bear Ridge in Waco were two of the courses playing host. Six News reporter Madison Palumbo stopped by. Some having a good day at the Texas Youth Classic. I feel like I played pretty good. And others not so much, — at least when it comes to hitting them
— straight. I love my group. I love playing. Today was rougher than most days, — but we still made it
— through. The golfers range in age from 8 to 18 participating in the tournament. Many have traveled from all over Texas, some even from out of state. Waco is a special place, and that’s the reason why it succeeds. We have 3 courses, each course Kenny Duran at Cottonwood Creek, Mike. At Bear Ridge, Keith Harris at White Bluff all committed to seeing the youth program here in Waco grow, and they have supported this cannot happen without the support of those three courses and their volunteer staff that they have. They know what they’re doing. They know how to run a tournament. As you can see behind me, plenty of golfers out here on this beautiful day. Some say they joined for fun and some say that they are trying to enhance their golfing skills. My coach texted me and asked me to come and I thought it’d be fun. Because I wanted to get better at Gotham and my experience was good. It was fun, got a lot of food and drinks throughout the tournament, so it was. My dad just told me about it and then I thought I could be really fun and that I could just play against good competition and just try and do my best. Some playing for others and getting to make new friends. My instructor Ray Lan invited me to play. Yes, it was amazing. It was fun. It was just meeting new people and getting around other people would play. In Waco for 6 News, I’m Madison Palumbo, and their goal for next year is to get 300 golfers to sign up. The tournament continues tomorrow for the 2nd round.
