Golf is such a mental game. So if you stick around here on golf life, we’ve got some top
tips on how to get over that mental block. If golf is 95% mental
and we all agree upon it, then why do we spend 95% of our time
working on the physical? I expect our game to get better. It’s madness and the boogeyman loves it. So what do we do to get our mind sharp
and in contention to play good golf? So here’s drill number one. Let’s call the spin drill. Do this. Stand facing
just like I am facing you right now. And take your right arm. Put it straight out, leaving your index
finger extended just like this. Simply turning back to your right
until it feels uncomfortable. This case. I’m pointing to that brown tree
right behind me. Now let’s add something to this. If golf was 95% mental, let’s use
the mental side to make the body respond. Close your eyes. I want you to take a deep breath. Just listen to the sound of my voice. Now imagine. What would it be like
if your muscles were more relaxed and you could stretch
maybe 1015 degrees further? And what would be like
if there was no pain? And what would it be like if you felt so relaxed
that you could go even 30% further? Now that you have that firmly entrenched
in your mind, simply open your eyes, extend your right arm again, extending
that index finger, and turn to the right and see how much further you’ve turned. I guarantee you’ve turned somewhere
between 10 to 15% further easily. And if you really went after it
and use that imagination, maybe even 30% drill number two. Think about this. When you’re sitting out on the golf course
and the emotions come up and you have no other way
to deal with them. Our natural instinct is to rush up and hit
the next shot, and that shot goes bad. And maybe the shot
after that. It’s called the avalanche. We want to avoid that because
the boogeyman loves to do that to you. And he ruins holes sometimes. Rounds. Imagine this. Imagine simply closing your eyes right now
for just one minute. Now here’s the catch. Allow yourself
the permission to not count. One 1000. Two 1000, three 1000. Rather, close your eyes for one minute
and feel when one minute has passed by. And when you think
one minute has passed by. Simply open your eyes. You’ll be amazed how much in touch
this drill makes you. And how many thoughts
are going through your mind. And those are the thoughts
we want to work on, because those are the bogeymen thoughts
that are coming out here to get you. The one minute drill will teach you how
to get this calm and get you more in touch with your sense of feel. And last but not least, drill number three,
what I call the future memories drill. You got to remember something.
We all have daydreams. We all have fantasies.
We all have desires at once. Where do they come from? Well, they come from your imagination. So what if you were to use those same
things, the imagination out here on the golf course
to your advantage. Next time, before you go to the golf
course game in the parking lot, use the one minute drill. Simply close your eyes and relax. Allow yourself to be more calm. But add to this. Imagine playing
the entire golf course in your mind. Every shot, every location, every putt
before you ever play. It’s called a future memory. Remember, your subconscious mind doesn’t
know the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined to it. You’ve already played the course. Now all you have to do
is walk out and go play it. Use these three drills. I guarantee your mind to become sharper. And remember, if golf is 95% mental,
then spend 95% of your time making this sharper. I guarantee you’ll get 3 to 5 strokes off your game,
and you’ll be beating the boogeyman each and every time.
