womens golf set, first golf set, beginner golf set, beginner clubs, how to golf, wife golf, girlfriend golf, whats in the bag, witb, review

if you’re like my wife and just starting out with golf you might feel overwhelmed when choosing your first set in this video I’m going to make it super easy for you explain what you need to look for when choosing your first set as well as give different options at varying price points a budget mid-tier and expensive option you’re going to find that buying a complete set gives you the best value but I’m going to challenge myself and try to build a custom set for the same price as the Tailor Made Kalia set which is $24.99 and one of the most popular women’s sets so before I dive into the different golf set options let me give a brief overview of what you should be looking for when choosing your first clubs so in golf you’re only allowed to have 14 clubs in your bag however when you are first starting out chances are you probably won’t need all of them i would say you would just need a driver a five or seven wood and then seven to pitching wedge and sand wedge and a putter now if that just sounds like foreign terminology I’ll show you the clubs and we’ll explain what they do later on you also want to look for lighter clubs just because you probably will be swinging at slower speeds when you’re first starting out having a lighter club will allow you to get more club head speed allow you to get more distance and most women’s club weigh about 40 or 45 and they’ll be graphite shafts whereas some of the men’s shafts for instance will be steel driver and fairwaywoods are some of the harder clubs to hit when you’re first starting out just because the loft is lower so you need to swing harder for the ball to launch in the air that is why it’s important when you’re picking out your first woods or driver you want to look for a higher lofted club it’ll just help launch the ball in the air for a driver you want something at least more than 12° and drivers do come in various models a normal a max and a low spin you want to be looking for the max option so for instance just to show you my wife’s driver this is the tailor made SIM 2 Max and as you can see there is a 12 on it right here so that signifies the degrees of loft when choosing irons you want to find something that has a wider sole and a thicker top line this will make sure that your irons are more forgiving they’re a bit more chunkier it’ll help you launch the ball in the air so here I have my wife’s Sim 2 iron and then this is my iron so you can see that if you look side by side it’s a little wider in the sole and also in these irons there is an insert so that also helps launch the ball into the air and if we look at it from the top you can see that the top line is thicker on my wife’s iron and you will also find hybrids in a lot of women’s sets and they are made to replace irons so some of the lower lofted irons like a four five and six can be harder to hit just because as I mentioned with the woods they have a lower loft so it’s harder to launch the ball in the air so the hybrid allows you with a slower swing speed to launch the ball so that’s why you’ll find those in some of the women’s sets for the putter there are two main styles a blade and a mallet i would recommend getting a mallet style putter just because it is more forgiving on offcenter hits which will help you with your distance control if you hit it on the toe or the heel on a blade putter then it might not roll as far whereas the mallet will give you a lot more consistency and I think it is a great option when you’re first starting out and even a lot of tour players use mallet style putters as there isn’t really any disadvantages to it so after you buy your initial set you will be looking to make some upgrades now I realize the set is quite expensive so you have to be strategic on where you’re going to be upgrading but the first places that I would look is the putter and getting a scoring wedge just because how you can lower your score is around the greens in your short game so if you dial that in get a new putter get that custom fit you will be putting better and also around the greens if you get a new wedge it’ll allow you to hit some better shots for instance I don’t want to get too technical but with the wedge in the set so this one right here it has a flat sole uh whereas on my wedge it’s a specialty wedge so it has different cutouts so it just allows you to open the face up get more creative with your shots that will just alter for instance the height of the shot if you need a little higher soft shot but don’t worry if that’s a little technical and a bit complicated right now you don’t need to worry about it first you just need to kind of work on some basic chips but when you do get pretty good at that and it is pretty easy to kind of master the short game not much technical stuff then you can kind of graduate into some of these other more shots okay so for the budget sets there are two main options that I would recommend the first one is the Wilson set this is the cheapest one you can actually get it even cheaper if you buy the older version so the Wilson set comes with everything that you would need a driver fivewood five hybrid a sixiron to sand wedge and a putter and the Callaway set if you are a member at Costco this is a great value as well too he comes with a driver a 3-wood a five hybrid and a six to sand wedge and a putter as well now if I’m comparing the two sets the Callaway set does have a better putter but what I like about the Wilson set is it has more forgiving clubs the driver has 13° of loft whereas the Callaway one has 11.5 degrees and as far as the fairway wood the Wilson one has a fivewood whereas the Callaway has a 3-wood so the fivewood just has more loft it’ll help you get it easier into the air so when you’re first starting out you might not be able to hit the driver and the 3-wood might be a bit hard as well too so teeing off with the fivewood is a great option for starting out and the Wilson set offers just that for the mid-tier set you have a couple of options from Tailor Made so you have the Kalia and you have the Sim 2 the Sim 2 is the one that I actually bought my wife so the Sim 2 set has a driver a three high lofted wood which is essentially a four-wood a 5wood a four hybrid and a 52 approach wedge don’t have a putter but with the savings between that and the Kala you can buy your own putter and the Kalia set has a driver fivewood six hybrid seven to sand wedge and a mallet style putter so when you get to the mid-tier set of clubs I would say that they’re actually of good quality the drivers and the woods the Sim 2 for instance is a fan favorite amongst a lot of people so you’re kind of futureproofing your golf set you know you spend a little bit more upfront but you don’t necessarily need to upgrade things as fast so comparing the Sim 2 and the Kalia I would say that the Kala does have some more forgiving clubs the Sim 2 has a five to approach wedge setup for the irons whereas in the Kala instead of the five and six iron it has a six hybrid so the hybrids are easier to hit than lower lofted irons so when you first start out you might want that hybrid option and also the Kalia does have a mallet style putter so it is a forgiving set the new one is the Kalia Gold but if you want a bit more savings there is the Kalia Premier i’ve seen them at like Golf Town or some other third-party retailers so you might luck out might be able to save some money and same thing with the Sim 2 set it’s an older set so you’d have to look at a third-party retailer like a Golf Town or something to get this okay so now on to the expensive tier and personally I wouldn’t recommend doing this because I could pretty much build a custom set for a better value but you know if you have the money to spend then I guess why not these are a pretty set of clubs these ones are from Hanma they are $7,800 so yeah that puts it out of reach for a lot of people you know if you’re first starting out and you just want some nice clubs to look at cuz that was a criteria when my wife was looking at clubs she just wanted something pretty help inspire her to play the game and get her practicing more you might not care specifically about performance but the good thing is Hanma is known for its craftsmanship and while I haven’t tried them out myself I do hear that people do say that they are made well so there’s that okay so now on to building a set now I know the sticker price of an initial set does seem expensive but just to put it in perspective one of the entry-level sets that’s around like $7 $800 my driver alone was over a,000 so yeah I mean buying things individually definitely can add up so that’s why I would recommend getting a package set but I’m here for the challenge let’s try and build a very good custom set for a similar price of the Tailor Made Kala so as I touched on earlier probably the putter and the wedges are where I want to upgrade first so I’m just going to put most of my money into there because that is probably where we’re going to get the most use out of it especially when you’re playing pitch and putts playing those shorter courses so that is why I’m going to spend more money on that section of the bag so for the putter I would get a Scotty Cameron so I have the Phantom 5.5 so just to show you this is a mallet style putter my wife tried a Phantom 9.5 they’re just different models that have different alignments so I would highly recommend trying them out in store see which one works for you uh but definitely would get a mallet style so this is 650 so we already eating into the budget a lot the next thing that I would get is a Vokey wedge there’s a lot of different options on the site but we’re going to be focusing on a sand wedge i think it’s one of the most versatile clubs around the green so that would be either a 54 or 56° loft i’m just going to tell you exactly which club I would get but if you want more specific on wedges I do have a fitting video with my coach i’d recommend getting the 561 12D now if that sounds foreign then uh yeah check out that video if you are interested but just know it’s kind of a good mix of forgiveness and also versatility and for the driver I’m going with the SIM 2 Max i think that the Sim 2 Max is one of the greatest drivers of this decade it is a bit older a few years older but it’s a great driver for a great price so I would highly recommend this for your starting out bag for the fairway woods I don’t think you’re going to be hitting it that much when you’re first starting out so I think this is where we’re going to cheapen it out a little i’m going to go with the Cobra LTDX Max so this is a Max model so more forgiving and Cobra I think are some underrated clubs i think it’s a good price point so I’m going to go with that Cobra Fairwaywood for irons I don’t think that we need all of them and if we were also to buy an iron set it would put us over budget because that would be over $1,000 on the irons so we can just pick out some individual irons title list does give you the option to do that but their irons are a bit out of our price range so I’m going to go with PXG so we only really need the seven iron as our lowest one so we’re going to go seven to pitching wedge throw in four irons there just the reasoning behind this is when you’re first starting out you don’t really need that five iron because what I found at least is your seven iron you’re able to get better contact so the ball actually might go further than it would if you hit a 5iron so it kind of makes the 5iron irrelevant so the total so far just shy under 2300 so we are within that goal of $24.99 now we just need the golf bag now I could get any golf bag and throw this under the budget but you have a nice set of clubs i’m just going to find a bag that looks nice i’m just going to get this titleist one it is 350 it does put us over the budget a little you know it’s a nice bag and we have a nice set here as you can see it was quite expensive to build a set and we are getting less clubs for more money so that is why the set is the best value and that’s why I’d recommend just getting a set to start out with obviously we did buy brand new clubs but if you do want to save more money you can get some used options and that would give you a lot more flexibility and still some great finds and if you are worried about used irons and the wear on them you can change out the grips like I have done on my irons right now so these are from Ripper Grips i do have a discount code if you want i’ll leave that down below but yeah it’s a fun way to also customize your U set make them feel like new anyways that’s my overview on what I think you should get for your first set of golf clubs i tried not to get too technical i didn’t want to overwhelm you i hopefully I covered it with just enough depth but if there were any questions let me know down below in the comments i’ll gladly answer that and I hope you guys get into golf and love it i’ll see you guys in the next video thanks for watching peace [Music]
