The European Swing takes us to Tuscany this week for the Italian Open as players battle for DP World Tour victory and spots at The Open Championship. Reigning champion Marcel Siem enjoyed one of his career highlights as he made a final-hole birdie in regulation play and then overcame Tom McKibbin in a play-off to win last year’s Italian Open. This week, the historic Italian Open takes place at Argentario Golf Club. In honour of Franco Chimenti, former President of the Italian Golf Federation, the best finisher among players born or after January 1, 2000, who make the cut, will be awarded the Memorial Franco Chimenti.

i pardon david and yanick paul who’s struggling today two over par oh that’ll help that is an eagle two for yanick so all of a sudden back to level par and this is angel aurora look at this in the ninth hole third shot here it’s a par four it’s his finishing hole and take that to bed you beauty 66 for him to start with oh that was a great escape wasn’t it yeah well done the ayora let’s go to freddy shot who’s just birdied seven here he is oh yes it wasn’t seven was it i think it was four wasn’t it anyway we’ll get there eventually here he is at six yes this is six 200 yds at six that’s a cracking shot from freddy shot wish i hadn’t said that now here is the austrian ali open champion nikolai von dellingshousen three bars to start the day for him is he brave enough to take it all the way back to this pin not much margin for a long or left well i certainly like that opener nice and aggressive from john exactly as suggested by timbard what a start for john perry no he just can’t wait to get onto the next green the way he’s putting second hole hillia’s third shot at this par five par the first might well walk off with a birdie at the second good shot onto the green at the third and this for a third straight birdie to open the day for dan bradbury how about that wonderful start the man from wakefield breezer is just slightly helping so negating the back spin he needs cautious maybe just in between clubs sean perry it’s not very fair he’s suggesting i can clear a table at 14 faces brilliant from parry two birdies in the first three wow there’s something going on here like a magnet in the hole frederick laqua second to the third surely someone’s going to get within 15 ft of this pin oh and it is it’s freddy’s the man now bradbury for four in a row good lord he’s not far away here this to get to minus one off the lead fantastic stuff lorenzo scalis another one of the 19 italians teing it up here and argentario hello go on oh lovely shot and that almost guarantees his birdie up and over the tree i would think for marco pench here at four that’s a huge drive he’s hit there really is and you see pitching on the greener stuff just get a bit more stop than you do on that shiny stuff on the top of that hill look there to the fourth and marco penge to try and get to two under par should do yes with a putt like that beautiful stroke nicely done for marco penge it was only his third start on the dp world tour yeah 30 for hillia too first of the day for the new zealander boom lovely birdie for marco there had a position off the tea but didn’t matter a shot laqua coming off a drop shot at four well there you go find the fairway leave a wedge in your hand most of these players going to attack from there over the winter months here’s bradbury trying to attack another pin another birdie chance coming out for bradbury the wind starting to fresh and maybe more than five yards oh wonderfully shaped towards the flag left to right to the right hand pin perfect goal another birdie part for dan bradbury and he’s got it and bradbury is five under par through the first seven holes and he is tied for the lead here in italy perry trying to get some of these drop shots back here this is at the eighth good t-shot hit a lovely little cuty hybrid that deserved a two that that was excellent that really was third birdie of the day but he’s had a double and a and another bogey thrown in there as well but he’s back to level par now playing 226 yds down to this flag that’ll do that’s a stunning golf shot
yep too much drama freddy’s just missed the fairway here can he gain control

bit special from the frenchman tap that in relax for a while now now here’s tim bart’s fantasy pick this week campio three beauties in there to the seventh this is the place to play from
it is 119 with a wedge from the fairway eyes for the pin here wonderful stuff from molinari great chance for him to round out his front nine with a birdie so what do you reckon oh well that’ll do nicely thank you very much for dan early he kind of needed something like that as well didn’t he after the horrible double back at eight bounces back birdie at nine just a little wedge here to the 10th takes advantage bradbury this will be to take the outright lead here if he rolls this one in out the way oh right in the middle it’s a good chance here for the italian leaporter to make a birdie and does so nicely done par 51 12 so he’s at minus three two behind yes please for a birdie here to move to within one of the lead yep he was on the move there he knew that was it nice nice feeling that dave isn’t it when you know it’s in and you just take a couple of steps forward a class act but not quite putting it together today aqua’s third from 137 at this par 512 that’s not bad that’ll do he’s hit a couple of shots today really what you call stiff just about that was not quite stiff but looks a little anxious again no need to be though super shot what a response well let’s hope he can pop that one and make a couple more between here and the house a look at the hole back and through and in and it is a sixth birdie today for dan bradbury so he moves ahead of hal vorson at the top and has the outright lead on day one the split-handed grip with the long putter has really helped his putting yes bravo eduardo first birdie the back nine for the rder cup vice captain so he moves it to two under bar lap order 10 ft or better required oh it’s way better fantastic molina with 94 yards to go little wedge in there parry’s already played to 20 ft or so oh it should be good if it comes off the bank come on well he’s got a few supporters out there eduardo andreas halvorson that was for birdie so a closing par at the 18th of par five and an excellent 65 for hal vorson what was your layup yardage what did you go to uh i would go to let’s just watch this shot here first of all excellent beautiful shot i would be about 100 yards to make 80 if i could if i could get to 80 that was ideal for me it is a birdie at the last and francesco leapora leads the italian charge here for 63 oh it’s going to be 64 blows for dan par it is excellent stuff from dan bradbury what a start it was four straight birdies out of the gate couple more one at seven one at the par 4 15th dan a six under 64 what a great day and i i imagine when you got those four birdies on a bounce to start off with you were like “hang on a second.”
yeah that was uh that was a nice way to start um obviously had it close in the first and then yeah and then you kind of it’s just a great way to start your round and yeah just kind of tried to keep it going lost it a little bit but i’ll still take the day yeah
bogey free
yeah still missed a few chance at the end but you know it’s i i’d have taken it standing on the first te so i’m happy i think that says a lot about your expectations on yourself at the moment because you’ve been frustrated haven’t you recently with your results you got your first top 10 in a while at the klm but you’ve been annoyed that you haven’t been scoring quite as well as you feel you’ve been playing does it feel like something has clicked today
yeah i mean i shot my last tournament round was amsterdam so that was um a nice way to finish there with five under and then come out here so obviously i’m i’m playing better um i feel like i say i feel like i’ve been playing well all year and just not getting the results so yeah i don’t know what it is but i feel like i’m doing the exact same thing and i’m i’m signing for lower scores it just doesn’t make sense but i’ll take it i’m not complaining that’s golf for you isn’t it and what about this course do you think that that suits you and and and matched with you and your mood and your game and everything today
uh sometimes you can just see the puts i mean today i felt like i puted pretty solid overall um but you just got to be in play uh if you’re in the rough around here especially around the greens it’s just a lottery so yeah hitting fairways hitting greens and and trying not to get too frustrated in the city
any evening plans are you going to go for a swim or what are you going to do to cool down
no i need to sit down for about 2 hours in some air conditioning try and figure out where to get a pizza and then i’ll see you all in the morning
