Three local golf courses partnered up for the Texas Youth Classic, a golf tournament for boys and girls to sharpen those skills and compete against each other. Cottonwood Creek and Bear Ridge in Waco were two of the courses playing host. Six News reporter Madison Palumbo is at the at the tournament. This is the first year that Cottonwood Creek is hosting the Texas Youth Classic. They used to host the Starburst Classic, which was a fan favorite. Around 150 golfers joined this tournament, coming all the way from Oklahoma, Louisiana, and even New Mexico. But we can’t forget about our local golfers here in Waco. The golfers range in age from 8 to 18, and there’s more than just golf. In store for them, a number of other events have been planned at businesses across the Waco area. Organizers say the tournament as a whole brings the community together. — Waco is
— a special place, and that’s the reason why it succeeds. We have 3 courses, each course Kenny Duran at Cottonwood Creek, Mike Williams at Bear Ridge, Keith Harris at White Bluff, all committed to seeing the. Program here in Waco Grow and they have supported this cannot happen without the support of those three courses and their volunteer staff that they have. They know what they’re doing. They know how to run a tournament. Some playing for others and getting to make new friends. My instructor Ray Lan invited me to play. Yes, it was amazing. It was fun. It was just meeting new people and getting around other people would play. Their goal for next year is to get 300 golfers to sign up. The tournament continues tomorrow for the 2nd round. Coming up at 10, hear from many golfers about their experience at the Texas Youth Classic in Waco for 6 News. I’m Madison Palumbo. Yeah, a great thing for the kids to do during the summer. Thanks, Madison.
