You’ve heard this golf tip a hundred times: “Just bow the wrist and you’ll hit it 300.”
Sounds simple, right? The problem is… even the guy teaching it can’t do it himself.

In this video, I break down why this recycled swing tip keeps failing, who it really works for (hint: not most amateurs), and how copying a move without understanding your grip, matchups, tilt, and body mechanics leads to total swing disaster.

We’ll look at what actually happens when your lead wrist goes from bowed to cupped, why that transition is so misunderstood, and how elite players like Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, and Wilco Nienaber do it completely differently.

Stop chasing quick tips.
Start understanding cause and effect.

a huge thank you to these incredible supporters on the screen and to you watching this video your support helps us bring our golf curriculum to low-income children around the world at no cost to them just like our location in Cape Flat South Africa in partnership with the Hillard program please like share and consider subscribing together we can give the gift of golf to kids who need it the most with this special wrist movement we might hit the driver 300 y and more want to hit the ball straight you have to sapenate your lead forearm like this this will keep the club face very square and not open and one more really important thing is happening what you also want to do is you want to extend your lead wrist through the impact zone that will give you extra power you will hit long and straight shots like this like this like this [Music] all right another day another swing tip shows up in my feed it’s the classic just do this and you’ll hit bombs of 300 sometimes more and of course there’s the title the verbiage and the footage to prove it but when we roll the footage he doesn’t even do what he is teaching you’re being told to force a move that he cannot even reproduce himself but here’s the twist that doesn’t make him a bad player it just proves the point even further he’s not good because of that move he’s good because of his matchups his grip body dimensions flexibility tilting patterns ball position all of it has been grooved over years it’s locked in and whether he realizes it or not he’s stuck with what his body allows him to do even he can’t just plug and play a new wrist move because that new move would contradict everything else he does right so if he can’t change his matchups without consequences why do you think you can because your hands are just the end of a chain they respond to what’s happening with your tilt rotation sidebend pressure shift arm structure not the other way around trying to manipulate the wrist or hand position in isolation is like trying to steer a car by adjusting the rear view mirror sure you can move it but you’re still going to go off the road biomechanically your wrists are simply responding to what your body has delivered they’re not decision makers they are reactors let’s take a real example two of probably the most extreme bold position at the top and just like this gentleman wants you to try and do go from bow to cup both Dustin and John bow the wrist like they’re trying to break that golf club in half but even then they’re doing it within the context of their entire body motion dj’s got a close fist strong grip fast rotation and shallow transition rom short swing tons of pressure shift extreme rotation and elite deceleration their wrist Boeing matches everything else that they do but you you’re trying to copy that move with a weak grip no tilt and a ball position that looks like you’re putting it’s not the same it’s not even close you’re not just copying a wrist move you’re applying the wrong math to a different equation and here’s the kicker let’s talk about Vil Nabin one of the longest hitters on the planet and guess what he doesn’t bow his wrist at all he loads wide rotates hard and lets the club work with his body not against it so all these tips telling you you must do this or bowl this for more power it’s false power doesn’t come from one wrist move it comes from how everything works together grip setup pressure rotation timing your matchups your DNA so don’t fall for this stuff tips do not work unless the coach knows your DNA swing period there is no oneizefits-all hand position no universal move that adds 30 yards no magic trick wrist bow that turns you into John Rom it has to match you your build your tilt your coordination your grip etc and if it doesn’t it’s just noise and honestly I hope you’re smarter than that

  1. Hell yeah! I've tried it lol just made me toe bash my irons! I tried it around the time Tiger appeared more flat with his left hand. Naturally I thought if it worked for him….. Let's give it a go! 😂

  2. Can you do a review on a coach called Shade Tree Pro He has a Philosophy with the swing starts from the top down.
his name is Charles Calhoun . He is trying to get his swing out to everyone and different companies but no takers.

  3. At 1:47, “he’s good because of his matchups.” That is EXACTLY it! Spot on! Guys (like me) take one thing, add it to our swing, and think we’ll become Rory overnight. It has to fit your swing or it could be making things even worse. Rahm isn’t great because of this move, he’s already great.
That’s a very important observation! Thank you, sir!

  4. The bowed wrist thing is questionable but supination of the lead forearm is definitely necessary to square up the club face at impact properly. I've recently focused on this thanks to a Taco Golf vid and it's helping a lot in fixing my habit of an open faced impact position, especially hitting driver.

  5. I've watched that instructors videos and that's all he says is here is how to hit it 300…like seriously.
However, I have been watching this guys driver shorts(https://www.youtube.com/@tigergolf./shorts), and I got sucked in my his smooth transition and tempo, then drops arms on the downswing. Golf ASMR of swings. Well…I've tried this(to my understanding) and I can't believe it's working for me with consistent numbers & dispersion. The key is making sure you have no tension in your arms and shoulders then just do your turns.
Thus the question, does action speak louder than words?🤔

  6. Look at this guy; he is built like Potgieter. That is a serious amount of mass to swing the club all things being equal compared to my 66 years of youthful exuberance . I think Morikawa and Spieth also bow their wrists. If all this worked so easy you would be back in the money list and I would be carrying your bag sharing the spoils living the life we are unaccustomed to. Johnson is having his struggles lately; saw him with a new DF3 Lab putter at Dallas, same as JJ Spaun and others, but switched back to his TM spider for the final round.

  7. Think the universal advice for irons should be do whatever is comfortable and natural to take a relatively straight divot after the ball. If you do that, odds are you hit a good shot. How it got there doesn’t matter.

Plenty of historically great golfers with unique swings.

Go do you and own it!

The sooner you prioritize accuracy over distance the sooner you’ll shoot better scores.

  8. My brain is gonna explode!! I’m convinced the powers that be do not want us to improve at the game. If we did, they wouldn’t be needed. Insert the nonsense teaching and voila, the sheep will follow.

  9. Finally found a pro to get lessons from and found out i'm not rotating through my supinated lead wrist which is causing a push. Funny how that doesn't automatically square my club face. Can't say I've ever though about wrist position, and if I did, I'd probably just make worse contact.

  10. Tried it 3 years ago when Danny Maude suggested it and I've never lost a professional competition since.

  11. Supinating the lead wrist is different from ‘bowing’ the wrist. Supinating is closing the face through impact whereas bowing is trying to maintain a square to closed clubface in the backswing.
