I caught up with PGA Tour winner Dylan Frittelli at an event hosted by Golfinity, where he took a few minutes to talk about his game and what’s ahead.

In this interview, Dylan shares:

His swing thought when approaching the ball

What he’s focused on as he looks ahead to the next phase of his career

Why showing up to events like this matters to him

It’s a quick, insightful look into the mind of a world-class player who’s competed at the highest level — including a top-5 finish at The Masters — and continues to give back to the game.

all right so I’m at a golf entity soaking up the good vibes learning from the pros and guess who I run into dylan Fertelli a PGA Tour winner two-time European Tour champion former Texas Longhorn and a guy who played alongside Jordan Speed before taking his game to the biggest stages in golf he sank the championship clinching putt for Texas back in 2012 to win the NCAA title and he’s competed in all four majors including a top five finish at the Masters and today he’s here giving back supporting junior golf and helping grow the game forward let’s catch up with him and see how things been going
i hear that you have a YouTube channel on the way y with that being said what does the future hold for you
um still tons of golf still tons of golf playing in Europe right now DP World Tour South Africa i’ve still got status in the States yeah PJ tour so just playing professional golf that’s the goal but dabbling in other things thinking about other businesses thinking about a YouTube channel now and I don’t know we’ll see where life takes me
and I was watching some of your prior experiences the John Deere Classic
yes
and that day was filled with birdies for I know you finished with plus six on birdie that day
would you say that’s one of your like best golf moments if not what is one of your best
yeah that was my I guess my biggest win by far but for me winning the national championship for Texas was still a more like exciting event
absolutely
winning it at Riviera first time in 40 years Texas had won the national championship that was I don’t know i felt more emotion more electricity like had the teammates there had the coaches had the staff so that was probably a bigger moment because when you win an individual tournament it’s like it’s you and your caddy and my trainer was there that was like all I had so we had a nice flight to go to the British Open the next week but when you have 20 30 people there that care about you that have spent time with you and they all get to celebrate in that moment it feels a whole lot better
yes and then you had the Texas energy right it’s absolutely amazing so this is almost a second home for you then in a sense right
yeah i mean it’s my primary residence but I’m traveling nine months a year so I only get two or three months in Texas sadly
so you love this Texas heat that we’re experiencing
i do yeah i don’t I don’t like it all the time but I can handle it when the summer comes I’m okay i practice for an hour go inside cool off but growing up in South Africa it’s not too much difference
we are here at Golf inity with Coach Nick and what is the plans for today
uh I just wanted to give back to the kids and the members and some of my local friends here so I thought a good way to do that was celebrate the masters it’s on TV so let me come out do some commentary chat to the people and we got Nando’s food here south African fast food chain that just opened up well it’s not fast food it’s a little better than fast food but yeah we got some food there for everyone to try out and I’m not here very often so I just want to celebrate with the community and see everybody
that is awesome i can’t wait to participate in that i can’t wait to taste the food i actually brought my appetite today so I cannot wait
junior golf is kind of top tier for me as far as things I’m doing in my career it’s veteran golf and junior golf ranson and I met because he was a part of our veteran class that we offer uh every year and he got a free membership here and classes with me and we became fast friends
um but kind of right up there is junior golf that’s where I got started uh what does it mean to you and and why is it on the top of your list
i mean it was the thing that drew me to the game i played bunch of different sports growing up and I always wanted to play golf but I never really had the chance until I was 15 years old and I did well in some local tournaments in South Africa luckily there they have a great structure we have tons of tournaments to play and good coaches so it was a fun thing to go through having it sort of in the back of my mind I was like “Oh there’s golfing this year i have tournaments to play i can test it out i can try.” But knowing that that’s what I wanted to do from a young age but not having the opportunity made it that much sweeter when I finally got to play tournaments and if I didn’t grow up in South Africa I don’t think I would have been a golfer if I grew up here I probably would have gone baseball or football or something else which is maybe bigger or has more stature so I think it it was a fortunate place that I was in just to have those opportunities in South Africa to make it easy accessible affordable all those things were were great for me and it’s the only way you can truly make it as a professional i don’t think in golf you can pick it up at 18 or 19 and make it as a pro there’s just too much learning and such a steep curve to get ahead in the game
the final question uh for the golf nerds out there you’re down the stretch you’ve got a few holes to play you’re 100 or 150 yards away what’s the number one thought in your head when you’re making your swing
what’s your If you have a swing thought you had to really not to have a thought that would be the ideal goal the last thought or the focus is just the target it’s to see okay that’s my line i’m on that line and I’m feeling a 145 shot if the pin’s 150 and it’s going to bounce and roll a bit once it hits the deck 145 on that line and just take it in just feel that put that inside you feel it grip and just hit it there’s no thought there’s no take away this position nothing technical you just want to zone into that thought
music to my ears
and I know that was the final question but I actually have one more question
where will we be seeing you swing the sticks today
um I don’t even know i didn’t Did I bring my clubs i left my clubs at home pretty sure we can find one
i’m doing a baget for you
i’m doing a bag giveaway so I didn’t want to confuse my clubs in the bag and then someone leaves with my golf clubs
totally understand so I I got mine in the trunk you know just I can hit a few we’ll add We’ll get a
percent we’ll have some fun
it’s a pleasure i’m gonna record the rest of the evening and make sure we get it and we’ll have some fun
so nice meeting you and we’re gonna have a good time
awesome thanks
perfect thank you
appreciate [Music]
