Adrien Moron’s bid to qualify for the open at Royal Portridge came to a sudden end after he withdrew from final qualifying at Dundinal Lynx following a disappointing opening round. The Polish golfer who flew in from Dallas after competing in Elivy Golf’s ninth event of the season at Mario Golf Club managed just 18 holes before calling it quits. 32, shot a three overpar 75 in his first round and was scheduled to tee off at 2:20 p.m. for his second round, but opted to retire from the competition instead. He wasn’t alone in his early exit. England’s Sam Horfield also pulled out, though even more abruptly. Horsefield withdrew after just nine holes at the West Lancasher qualifying site, where he had turned in a front n score of 43, leaving him seven overpar. The 28-year-old, who had successfully qualified for the Open at the same venue last year, was later disqualified after failing to inform tournament officials of his withdrawal. A breach of protocol confirmed by an RNA representative to Bunker Duty ODUK. Moranc’s early departure means he’ll miss the open for the first time since 2021. It ended a run of three consecutive appearances at golf’s oldest major, including a strong showing last year with a T-23 finish at Royal Liverpool. He had also competed in the previous nine major championships prior to this year’s Masters. Although he won’t be heading to Portric, Moranc still has a packed schedule ahead. The clicks GC player is set to compete in Elivy Golf Andalucia and Livy Golf UK in July with more LIIV events lined up later in the season. He also plans to make several appearances on the DP World Tour despite only having played three fully sanctioned events on that circuit since his move to the Saudi back league at the start of 2024. confirmed on Instagram last week that he will feature in the Amgen Irish Open, the BMW PGA Championship, the FedEx Open to France, and potentially the Alfred Dunnhill Lynx Championship. Ranked world number 332, Moranc may be skipping the Open this time, but his summer calendar promises plenty of opportunities to bounce back and make headlines once again.
