you’re looking at the back of the thigh at a group of muscles called the hamstrings now there are three of them but running between them is a nerve called the sciatic nerve so this patient of mine couldn’t come close to touching his toes as he felt a ton of hamstring tightness during my testing this is how far I could raise his leg before hamstring tightness stopped me but check this out if I pushed his toes down his hamstring tightness got worse but interestingly if I pushed his toes away his hamstring tightness dramatically decreased in Che how far I could stretch him now this showed he was not dealing with short hamstrings that needed to be stretched but rather sciatic nerve tension here’s a way to test this on your own if you kick your leg out and drop your head you stretch the sciatic nerve so if it’s irritable it’ll recreate symptoms in your hamstring or down your leg but if I asked him to raise his head that symptom went away so I taught him an exercise to Glide the nerve and desensitize it moving the head and foot up and down together and he was able to touch his toes without stretching

  1. OMG I HAVE THAT. I did the test a couple of times and it hurts when i move my head down and goes away when I move it up. Will try your fix to that thing, THANK YOU

  2. Could also be a misalignment between leg and hip. For example, if the leg, hip or spine is twisted in an unnatural way (without you knowing), the nerves could be shortened or pinched, leading to a similar sensation when stretching.

  3. I'm fairly flexible, but because I sit at a desk all day I always find it's always my sciatic nerves that are super tight when I do my routine stretches.

  4. My hamstrings didn't work..I can't step up stairs as well as I can't walk properly.. what should I do?? Moreover I can't band my leg in backward.. what should I do?? please reply 😢

  5. Tried it, no change. Given, I am able to touch my palm to the ground – kinda, but when I do that extended/pushed down toes, nothing changes, so idk if my problem is the nerve or sth else. If someone knows how to increase that stretch even more, would be much obliged

  6. What if I feel pain behind my knee and in my calf when I try to stretch hamstrings? And what if my feet, then legs go numb?
