Thomas Pieters stepped in to remonstrate with a fan at LIV Golf Dallas after they were heckling his 4Aces teammate Patrick Reed.
The LIV Golf event in Dallas, which secured Sergio Garcia’s place at the Open Championship, was won by Reed via a playoff. Reed, Paul Casey, Louis Oosthuizen and Jinichiro Kozuma all finished on -6, forcing a playoff. Tyrell Hatton was also in contention, but fell short down the back nine, where he let his frustration show.
Reed, who won the Masters in 2018 but defected from the PGA Tour to join LIV three years ago, holed a birdie on the first playoff hole at Maridoe Golf Club, claiming his first LIV Golf title in the process. However, just days prior, Reed was being heckled by a fan in Dallas, prompting Pieters, his 4Aces teammate to step in.

The Belgian could be seen leaving the course to head towards the stands, confronting a fan briefly for heckling Reed before he made his way back to the fairway.
While it is unclear just what Pieters said to the fan, viewers of the incident on social media gave their thoughts on the incident.
“LIV isn’t the golf we grew up with… it’s not a Gallery; they’re just fans. Fans boo and heckle all the time. LIV did this to themselves, and the players need to learn to deal with it,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “That’s why we like team golf. Sticking up for your team.”
A third commented: “Pieters let the moment get to him. Golf thrives on composure—fan taunts are par for the course. LIV doesn’t need this rough.”
However, with Reed going on to win the event in Dallas, it seems the incident didn’t put him off his game. While his poorest round of the Dallas tournament came on the final day, with Reed shooting three over after holding a three-shot lead before Sunday, he held his nerve during the playoff to win.
Speaking after the win, Reed, who also admitted he is looking forward to playing at Portrush in the Open Championship next month, said: “We feel good.

“The game has felt really solid recently. Today, even though the score was high compared to where it should have been, it was kind of one of those days that when you don’t make putts, any little thing that’s off is going to cost you.
“The good thing is I had a big enough lead there to hold it together.
“But game feels solid. I’m looking forward to Portrush, but I’m really looking forward to next week going to Germany, DP World Tour event, keep this momentum going, win there, and who knows, maybe go on a run.”
