Patrick Reed joins the media ahead of LIV Golf Dallas to talk course conditions, home-state motivation, and his hopes of earning his first individual LIV title. After a gritty U.S. Open at Oakmont, Reed reflects on how his game is trending, how 4Aces GC is positioned to win, and what it would mean to lift a trophy in Texas.

He also opens up about Ryder Cup ambitions, former rival turned teammate Thomas Pieters, and the challenge of competing with red-hot Joaquín Niemann. Classic Reed: candid, strategic, and locked in.

all right uh please welcome to the Live Golf Dallas media center Patrick Reid of 4 Aces GC so Patrick you’re currently 18th in the individual standings with three top 10 this season you live about Yep surprise you
yeah i didn’t think it was that good of a year uh you live uh you live about 230 mi south down I45 so I’m sure it’s nice to tee it up in your home state how would you evaluate your game coming out of the US Open at Oakmont well I mean considering at Oakmont I feel like every every player was complaining meowing about the rough and so you’re sitting there you’re just like “All right you know I mean what are we going to do we’re coming to a normal golf course how’s the game really feel?” And uh yeah I think that was the first time I’ve ever played where you’re actually trying to hit in the bunker rather than hitting in the rough cuz it was basically it felt like a shot penalty anytime you hit it in there so uh going into this week really it was just kind of kind of see how the game really feels and I feel like uh you know the ball striking is where it needs to be we just need to make sure that uh after putting on those uh really fast greens that we kind of dial it in here because I mean I’ve never been so uh defensive I’d say on putting compared to normal places and so uh yeah I mean game feels good we’re ready to go and hopefully uh have a good week here so last year at the team championship uh you won both of your singles matches on the first two days and then shot 69 in the uh in the final day and the team tied for second what do you like about Merido and how confident do you feel not just about your chances this week but also the team’s chances uh to win for the first time since 2023 um you know really the golf course last time we were here I felt like was a little firmer a little faster a little uh less penile on the rough but for match play last year I thought it was perfect um you know really played into that uh you know riskreward kind of factors i feel like with how thick the rough is this year it’s kind of be more strategic uh because the rough is you know rough’s thick now so uh that being said I feel like with our team with kind of how we’re all hitting the ball and how we’re playing at the moment I feel like it’s going to be a good week for us have a chance to win our first in team title and hopefully uh get my first individual title out here especially so close to home but um yeah it’s going to be a hot week so you know with it being hot it’s going to be more about uh managing your time managing your energy level and uh you know not really meowing so much and complaining about the heat rather than just kind of keeping your head down and going out and playing golf
so one last question for me last year in the quarterfinals you beat Thomas Peters pretty handed uh he’s now your teammate so will you mention that at all this week or because he’s playing in such good form right now maybe you don’t say anything to him
i don’t really think I need to mention it too much to him um it’s a different type of event you know we got uh stroke play compared to match play but um yeah I seem to run into my teammates quite a bit you know I mean when when Petey was on the team I played him twice in college in match play and you know next thing you know I played Thomas Peters and it all kind of turned out the same kind of kind of way um but it’s awesome having Thomas on our team he’s a a great guy he works so hard and you know he’s playing some great golf so I’m glad he’s on our team this year and hopefully uh you know we all can kind of follow suit play some solid golf and go out and uh have a chance to win
all right uh thanks Patrick we’ll open it up to the media uh for questions just please raise your hand and we’ll bring a microphone to you matt over here to the right
patrick have you thought at all about the RDER Cup and being a potential pick and if so what do you think you need to do over the last few months to prove yourself
uh it’s always on your mind uh anytime I get to represent our country it means a lot to me so uh for me personally I’m always thinking about trying to make every team and uh yeah you know I mean obviously being a part of live where we don’t get points is uphill battle but really for me it’s focused on playing some great golf and having a chance um you know really it’s all going to come down to I feel like the open championship have a chance to win there and you know you play have a really good showing and play well there and then you just never know but uh yeah it’s looking like no matter what it’s going to rely on a pick uh unless I go ahead and win uh the open so really the only way I can focus on RED Cup is kind of that one week go out and give all I have and have a chance to win
in terms of this week what skill set is this course requiring for you to contend oo you know I I played the front yesterday i I didn’t play the back until today but um you know really it feels completely different than last year last year was really firm fast fairways the rough was kind of low like like I said earlier it’s kind of set up more for match play so you can kind of take those risks off the tee if you needed to so there’s always like two or three ways to play most of the holes uh after seeing the front nine yesterday it’s going to be obviously you want to hit the ball you know get as far down there as you can but it’s more strategic putting in the right place being able to attack the greens from there cuz it just seems like from the rough I mean you have to rely so much on how’s the ball going to come out and watching the ball kind of bounce and roll all over these hills unlike from the fairway that the greens seem a little bit more receptive you can kind of attack so yeah it’s kind of completely different i would feel like just you know having control of the golf ball and the really just kind of you know picking your picking your spots and really focusing and and diving into exactly what shot you’re hitting and fully committing to it considering last time we played here it was like all right do I want to full send this over there you know have it you know kind of have that 50/50 opportunity or do I play it smart so uh yeah it’s just kind of going into this place with a fresh fresh mind and really a new look rather than sitting there and just kind of going for every birdie possible and full send cuz in match play it doesn’t matter if you make a three or a six i mean yeah you’re either one up one down or or all square it’s not going to affect the score as much
thank you next question Patrick following up on the RDER Cup question Keegan Bradley’s been playing really good golf would you be in favor of him being a playing captain
um honestly for me if I was in his shoes if I felt like I was playing as the top 12 inside that top 12 then I’d play uh the thing about being a captain it’s about putting the best team forward no matter who it is um and whoever’s in the best form is obviously one of those guys that I’d make sure is on team and if he continues playing the way he’s playing and he continues competing on Sundays and having a chance to win I mean I’m I’m all for it right it’s all what he feels like is the best for the team and if that means him playing is best for the team that’s what you have amazing uh vice captains for is to kind of take over that role if you’re out there having a chance to uh play and and have a good chance for us bringing the cup home and then if you’re able to win here what would it mean to you to win back in your home state
it’d mean a lot i mean it’ be my first live event uh victory as an individual but also to win winning home is always always important always nice i mean and for it to be the start of a five-week run that I’m going on it it’d mean a lot kind of give me that confidence going into the next four did want to ask one other question Patrick um we has won four of the first eight tournaments this year just wondering what kind of chatter amongst the rest of the competitors in terms of what he’s doing this season
yeah he needs to slow down i mean he’s won 50% of them so uh yeah no he’s playing some unbelievable golf uh and he every time he’s on that leaderboard he’s that guy you have to go out and take care of and attack uh you always looking for his name cuz it I mean you know if you’re close to him you’re have a chance to win but uh yeah no he’s playing some spectacular golf this year and really you know I mean it’s just one of those that you go out there you try to shoot as low as possible and you know hopefully competing with them late Sunday and hopefully you’re the one on top all right appreciate it Patrick thank you thanks
