Collin Morikawa has got himself firmly in contention at The Rocket Classic after a fine second round on Friday set him up for another good round on Saturday.
Morikawa carded a bogey-free 64 around Detroit Golf Club to put himself back in the mix and midway through round three, the American is once again four under for his day.
The American is looking for his first win on TOUR since the ZOZO in 2023 and has come close on a number of occasions to breaking that duck.
Morikawa knows the course in Detroit well having finished second the last time he played there.
And drawing on that experience, it appears Morikawa’s thoughts on the course helping him have come true.

Walking the course prior to the tournament getting underway, Collin Morikawa was asked about his past experience at Detroit Golf Club and if it would indeed help him going into this week.
And with the answer he gave, it very much looks like what he said is now coming true for him.
“Knowing this course is going to require a lot of birdies and just really clean golf, it’s really anyone’s game but when you’ve had success before it just brings back memories of good shots.
“Obviously I’ve only played here once so I only remember those rounds and a lot of good shots but it doesn’t mean anything, we all start even and I’ve got to go out and execute,” Morikawa said.
Collin Morikawa’s perfect time to get a PGA Tour win again
Collin Morikawa is simply too good of a player to not be winning and in contention regularly on the PGA Tour.
He might have come up short in some of the bigger events but the Rocket Classic is now a genuine chance for him to get the monkey off his back.
He’s playing well enough already and with a field that’s nowhere near as strong as some of the other events we see on TOUR, Morikawa is very much the superstar name in the field.
Given that – at the time of writing – he is just a few shots off the lead going into Sunday, this feels like the ideal time for Morikawa to get that elusive win.
If he doesn’t manage it, then it will be another dropped opportunity for the Ryder Cup hopeful.
