In this tip I’m showing you what I refer to as the best drill for senior golfers.

Most of my students are senior golfers. One common thing I keep seeing is a swing that is too short and tight. This type of swing is literally using physical strength to hit the ball. As we get older we get weaker so this swing will never allow seniors to get the distance they are after.
In my mind the best drill for senior golfers would be one that allows them to do a longer swing and loosen up. That is the drill I am showing in this tip. I know there are tons of other drills out there but I am giving you one that you can do anywhere and will allow senior golfers to get distance for life.
If you are a senior golfer and you are hitting the ball as I describe in this tip, then give this a try. If so it will soon become your best drill too.

in this tip I’m going to show you what I refer to as the best drill for senior golfers so most of my students are seniors literally 60 and above all the way up to 94 years old my oldest student so I have taught senior golfers for years and years and years and one of the things that I commonly see you know seniors just do not do enough of a golf swing so here’s what I’m getting at your average senior golfer is going to take a very short back swing and then just literally whack at it with their arms zero body club will end up about here so they’ve got this swing that is way too short so that swing is just not going to generate enough power to hit the shots so basically what they’re doing is they’re basing their swing on physical strength and as you know as we get older we get weaker so this little swing they’re doing is really not going to hit the ball any farther and it’s only going to get worse so I thought of this drill not too long ago you know I just think again I think it’s the best drill for seniors because it gets them at least doing more of a swing and it gives you feedback to let you know if you’re doing it right all right so here’s what we’re doing so I would probably start off with like a pitching wedge right here so think of it like this we’re going into our setup when we go back we are going to break this arm we are going to touch this trap muscle right here so I did a tip on this not too long ago great drill for getting people to get lag in their swing so right here we’re going to break the arm touch the trap muscle we’re going to swing it all the way through and touch the trap muscle on this side so I’m calling it trap to trap trap to trap all right so what does this drill do well first off it gives you a longer golf swing which is what I was saying most seniors are doing way too short of a swing next if you break your arm right here that relaxes your arms right here it gets you to hinge your wrists in your swing so that’s going to give us our club head speed because the club’s going to be releasing over here it’s going to get us to follow all the way through so that we’re not just stopping right here you imagine if you stop here you are literally slowing the club down before you hit the ball or right when you hit the ball to stop right here all right so we don’t want to do that we want the club to keep accelerating all right so if we can get um the club to go all the way through to this trap muscle right here that’s going to give you more of a through swing so like I said I would probably do nice easy swings first i’ve got a pitching wedge here so right here so trap trap so you’re literally touching it touch all the way through touch touch touch okay keep doing that over and over and over and over so typically takes about 5 minutes because that kind of gives you a totally different swing timing is going to be all messed up but literally if you keep doing that within about five minutes trap trap you can actually hit the ball just as well if not longer than your best shots all right so start off with a pitching wedge then maybe go up to your seven iron okay so I would tee the ball up about a finger height just to give yourself uh a little room for error okay so we want to tee it up make this stuff easy don’t go fast you’re looking for the club to touch right here so right here it’s going to touch this trap muscle swing right through it’s going to touch this trap muscle all right so trap to trap it’ll tell you exactly what to do okay so here we are right here trap trap okay so you keep doing that like I said after about 5 or 10 minutes you’ll start hitting amazing shots with that and then into the future all right you want to build it into a real swing so all you have to do is go towards the trap muscle but just keep the club a little off of the trap muscle so instead of touching right here we’re going to stretch the lead arm out a little bit so it keeps the club away and then over here you can go away so that’ll start to widen the arc and hopefully that gives you even more club head speed all right so start off with a wedge go to seven iron then you know I know everybody wants to hit driver okay so try it with your driver all right i would probably do a bunch of practice swings first because again it’s a little bit different i’ve had people do this and literally within about five or 10 minutes they start hitting the ball longer than they ever have in their life all right but you got to keep doing it okay people quit okay don’t quit touch and touch that right there dead straight that’s probably about 200 yards with that little tiny easy little swing all right so again you know I have seen senior golfers swing there’s a common thread it is as we get older we get tighter so we start doing this shorter swing that’s just kind of whacking at it perfect example would be Jack Nicholas you ever seen him tee off in the Masters yeah versus his swing when he was you know a young guy wow it’s way too short now he’s just going like this and hitting it you know if you could just lengthen it gives you a little bit more time to generate more speed loosens you up gets the wrist working and you know hopefully you can hit the ball longer well into the future all right because one of the things I say hopefully everybody’s hearing me you don’t have to be strong to be loose okay so if I get you to loosen up you know when you’re 95 years old should still be able to be loose and that’s what’s going to give you the club head speed all right so give my best drill for senior golfers a try and see if it helps you i truly hope you’ve enjoyed this tip you know I’ve been teaching a powerful effortless pain-free golf swing now since 1991 if you’d like to learn this type of swing then click Love the hat!🎉
Really enjoying you're lessons Paul…watching from Melbourne Australia…
Great simplification as always
👍👏💪💯.
I'm 80 years old, I need all the help I can get.
8:01 thank you so much! This was great!!
Love your teaching methodology. Your lessons have helped improve my game, and now I enjoy golf all the more. Thank you Paul.
at 74 yo i’m at the end of my rope trying to get my driver over 85mph….i’ll give this a try…
Thanks Paul. I'm not quite a senior yet(56)…I don't think so anyway. However, I do have a back injury that I sustained in Iraq. So the injury does not allow me to turn as much as I used to. I will give this a try cause I do feel very stiff when im swinging.
I'm 70 and definitely need more distance. Will try this
Thanks again paul number 1 teacher you make it so simple
You are The Man
Good to Try😮I hope
Your the best Paul !!!!
This is a brilliant video, just what I’ve been looking for , gonna give this a go Paul, thanks so much
It makes a huge difference, and you can still play golf and not have to worry about people thinking you are too old to play decent golf.
It took me a number of years to get what Paul was selling but I finally did. Persistence helps and that has made all the difference.
Golf is so counterintuitive, which I think is part of the problem. Try hard but stay loose and relaxed. It doesn't make sense, but it works.
great drill once again
I like these short sessions you've been posting lately. Great incentive to reinforce what we should be doing. I recently found a first edition of Swing Machine Golf from 2002. Great clear concise instruction along with very helpful photos. I'm going back and working on this. Good idea to work without a ball.
My go to drill when my swing goes wrong. Thanks
One of my old golfing buddies used to bend his left arm all the time!! He could hit the ball a mile! He drove one of our par 4's with a 3 hybrid!
I’m a senior who had a long swing but advised to shorten some years ago and now too short😊😊😊😊. Love your advice.
At age 90, I was just about ready to retire my clubs. I was out on our nine hole course and found myself on the par 5 seventh wondering which one of my 10,000 tips I should try next when I remembered your video. I thought what the hell why not. I went trap to trap with my driver swinging at 60% and hit one down the middle 198 yards, about 25 yards longer than my usual good drive. I couldn't believe it. Repeat performance with a five wood and a sand wedge into the green. A relatively short putt for birdie, which I missed, but came away delighted. The thing that I like best about this action is that with very soft arms it is difficult to hit with the hands from the top. The soft arms encourage you to start the down swing with the lower body. My swing arc is much, much longer which speaks for itself. An old guy thanks you.
I didn't start playing golf until I was in my mid 20's. I naturally have done this from the beginning and it absolutely works. I'm never going pro and this swing has not made me super long but a couple decades later I am super consistent and easily put myself in birdie-par position on 5 of 9 holes. Mid season I'm shooting in the 80's and it makes golf fun.
Bought the Ignition Golf Membership. The short game is worth the price! Played four rounds after hours of practicing the 4 positions. This is a legitimate trading program! A little more practice and confidence, look out golf buddies, they don’t stand a chance. Now…if I can only putt…🤔
🧐👍
So what u r saying is to bend the left arm.?
Thanks!
Hey Paul, an old student. Any way to put together some Senior tips to cover most of the game? I was telling a few golfers today about your’ touch your legs and head drill!
Paul, you're a golf-instructing genius! I don't have a problem with my driver (hitting 87% of my fairways with an average drive of 160 yards and a range of yardages as low as 135 and as high as 180 depending on the quality of the specific swing) but it's hard for me to make a full swing with my wedges because the club shafts are not as long and make the movement awkward. Using your idea, however, all of a sudden the wedges are working again. Shooting in the 80's at age 87 (next month) is a lot of fun. All the work comes from you!! Great job!
Will try Paul
Thanks your the best
I have tried this drill and I keep hitting the ground. any suggestions?
Thank you. I will give it a try.
Am liking this drill just as a trainer, it keeps your arms silent until the body releases them, will definitely incorporate, thx Paul.
I tried this drill this morning and it's working well!!
Your instructions have been awesome!
Once I touch my shoulder muscle, would that be good time to start my body turn toward my target?
Fyi…. your chipping and pitching techniques have really helped my game.
I am 69 and hitting the ball better than I ever have.
Thanks Stan
I love the loose wrist concept and lower body leading the motion, but what about the vertical drop i see many instructors touting.
