⛳ The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont was one of the toughest tournaments in recent memory – not just for the players, but for the fans watching at home. Between lightning-fast greens, impossible pin placements, thick rough, and relentless rain delays, Oakmont became the main character… not the players.

In this episode, we break down:
• How the brutal course conditions impacted fan enjoyment
• The performances (and frustrations) of stars like Scottie Scheffler
• Why golf is at its best when players shine, not just the course

🎙️ If you felt the U.S. Open lacked drama and excitement this year, you’re not alone. Let’s talk about it.

golf is a frustrating sport anyone who’s ever walked up to a tea box and tried to guide a little white ball to the cup knows this game is more of a mental gauntlet than a physical contest some folks spend their entire round landscaping chunking dirt whiffing grass never finding that sweet contact others they catch it clean and then watch their balls soar into the woods never to be seen again and for the rest of us fans weekend warriors dreamers it’s oddly cathartic to watch the pros to live vicariously through those buttery swings and perfectly struck irons to admire the precision the calm the magic of a professional round and yes sometimes to chuckle when even they caught a double bogey and we can say “Yeah that’s me minus the sponsorship deals.” But this year’s US Open at Oakmont wasn’t one of those weeks this was a war of attrition let’s call it what it was the golf course not the golfers was the main character and as impressive as Oakman is I don’t think that’s a great thing for the sport from the very start it was clear rhythm was impossible momentum a myth every pro looked like they were playing uphill mentally and literally the setup was brutal the greens were lightning fast and then the weather rolled in you didn’t see players chasing too many birdies you saw them surviving grimaces headshakes clenched jaws even the best in the world looked drained [Music] the leaderboard didn’t move with drama it slid backwards like gravity was pulling it down and for the viewer that’s hard to love if you disagree if you loved every gritty second I challenge you this put together a fiveminute montage of the battle for first place i promise you it’ll be par putt bogey another bogey missed green up and down par rinse and repeat now full respect to the champ it was a gutsy gritty win on one of the hardest stages in golf but when the headline becomes who survived rather than who soared that’s a problem for entertainment value especially with casual viewers scotty Sheffller he finished top 10 and that’s a missed moment because right now golf has players worth watching who fans want to turn the TV on for scotty Rory Xander these guys can light it up they can go on a birdie streak that feels like cheat codes in a video game but none of that was on display at Oakmont instead we got 72 holes of survival and survival isn’t what attracts casual eyes look I get it oakmont is historic it’s sacred it’s designed to test but here’s the truth [Music] golf isn’t great because of how hard a course is it’s great because of how well players can conquer it and this weekend no one conquered anything they endured if you watched the US Open and walked away thinking “Ah golf isn’t that fun to watch.” I don’t blame you but I’ll say this watch again watch another week watch a course that lets these men shine watch tournaments where birdies fly storylines build momentum swings and there’s a race to the lowest score because this wasn’t that this was golf’s version of a wrestling match in mixed martial arts and while Oakmont stole the spotlight it may have dimmed the light on the players just a bit so that’s the breakdown oakmont was merciless but not memorable in the right way a classic course yes but not a classic tournament [Music]
