Min Woo Lee opened up about a heartwarming surprise call from his sister, fellow pro golfer Minjee Lee, during his post-round interview. In a moment of levity, he joked, “Did you butt dial me?” when she unexpectedly reached out to check in. The call, which came after a strong performance, meant a lot to him, especially given Minjee’s recent return to form. Their sibling bond shone through as Min Woo reflected on how much he admires her resilience and skill, calling her “a beast” when she’s playing well.

awesome round today uh what was working for you out there
uh putting was nice short game was nice approach shot was pretty pretty nice driving was good early um got kind of shaky there uh probably you know normally I would hit driver on eight but uh didn’t know where the ball was going so I had hit iron and you know made birdie the traditional way uh but yeah everything was pretty solid um I think the putter was working quite nicely though
anything about this course that suits your eye
uh lots of drivers um obviously got some length so uh you know trying to get it in play somewhat in play and then uh you know attack the attack the greens obviously had a bit of a um bit of a wet period there the last couple days so uh it’s quite quite getable um more just like uh controlling the spin uh which you know out of the rough you don’t have as much spin so it’s quite nice to you know kind of play from the rough but not that I was doing it on purpose I would rather be on the fairway but uh yeah it’s you know it’s it’s getable so um conditions were nice in the morning and yeah took advantage of it
anything you’re working on right now in your game to trying to get back to your form that you had kind of earlier this season
yeah uh the drive is definitely something that I’ve been trying to figure out uh I was in the I was in my shaft um back to my old shaft um that I was in but over the last couple months I’ve kind of wanted to improve for the long-term run but it you know when you have a two-way miss it’s a it’s a very tough game um you know this this gamer that I have now I can you know kind of still hit it left as well but I’m trying to get rid of the left side of them try to hit a fade uh um and then the putter putter uh I went to a different jailbird putter um I changed that at the US Open but the weight was a bit uh bit too heavy so we took the whole took the weights out completely and had it similar to my old putter so uh kind of just going back to what I feel right on the course and um you know I had I have good vibes here i played really well last year and uh had a good chance to win so um you know I actually really like this place and uh make some birdies
do you ever you talk about the weights with your putter do you ever change weights based on kind of green speeds or grass type
uh I probably should do a little bit more but not really i think it comes down to like what’s what you’re kind of comfortable with um if the greens are slow you obviously want a bit more weight so you can hit have a bit more of a hit but I think that’s just a lot of practice that you have to do um it does become tough when you know the greens change every week so uh you know I think if you have good feel you can you can play anywhere so um I’m trying to everyone’s trying to get to that stage and uh yeah it’s it’s obviously been quite nice today was very good um with the weights being what it was before yeah so uh me and Bo Matti um read it left to right and a little straighter towards the end um but my tendency on left to riders is to miss him right and I did miss it right and it ended up coming back which was very nice uh it was a great bonus um we knew it was going to come back right to left but not that much so uh you know sometimes better to be lucky uh and yeah just just needed the right speed and yeah it went in dead dead center so uh yeah bonus and been putting well so that’s that gives me a lot of confidence because I haven’t been holding many putts over the last couple months when you’re stacking around like this when do you start to feel maybe a separation of success like we were just talking about you know two or three under isn’t good enough at this course so do you track how well you’re doing it or do you not look at the leaderboard
uh I think early on I used to but you know you just got to take care of what’s in front of you uh I think it’s really easy to be like “Hey I shot 900 i’m the best best player in the world feel-wise.” But um you just still got to go out there and hit some shots and hit all the shots hell some putts so um yes like there’s a comfortability factor of yes you’ve been playing well and you know although I didn’t have the A+ game you can still score around here so uh I think it’s just the confidence that you feel uh when you go out there but you still got you still need to go from A to B which um a lot of people keep telling me and that’s that’s the um that’s kind of the motto of this game how would you assess where your game has been since you got
uh it’s been honestly very bad uh I think um I was pretty you kind of Yeah you kind of Yeah I didn’t feel great on the course um especially playing at a course where when you hit it in the rough you’d literally got to hack out um Oakmont Memorial uh most of the signature events are just very very tough and you’re nearly playing instead of four majors you’re playing more majors cuz uh they’re trying to make it as you know as tough as possible so uh I was really excited for this week i wanted to get to hit it in the rough and actually hit it onto the green uh so I wouldn’t rate it anything cuz it was pretty average um it seems so close but you know and I don’t even think I did that much different today and you know I score 10 times better than what I have been scoring so uh at the end of the day um just got to keep your head up and keep going uh in the long term you want to play the signature events you want to play those events and you want to hit it as accurate as possible but um yeah still trying to figure out driver was a big part of that um not knowing where the ball was going so uh yeah um hopefully the PJ tour can have more courses like this it’ll be bit more fun and less stressful
i know you’ve asked this question twice already but just the given Yeah no she’s uh we talked uh talked last night um you know normally she doesn’t check up on me but it was actually quite nice to get a get a call from her um I was like “Is it what?” I was like “Did you butt dial me like what’s going on?” And she’s like “No I just want to check in.” I was like “Oh okay.” Um no uh she’s she’s awesome uh she’s I think she had a bit of a night on on Sunday with a few of her friends uh I think they all had a week off this week so uh it was it’s good to see her in a nice mental space and uh and happy on the course um you know it’s she was going through a tough patch the last couple years so it’s it’s nice to see her have her swagger back if I could follow up quickly on that um how do you guys balance each other out in those tough times what do you want her to learn from you and what can you learn from how she handles
uh I don’t think she learns that much off me um I try to I try to learn off her uh she’s just a she’s just a beast when she’s playing good she just doesn’t do much wrong and you know um you just see that like you see that step in her in her walk you you you know she’s comfortable with her game and you know she’s you know got control which um you know she’s already a ball striker so it’s quite quite cool to see her you know walk the walk so uh no it’s a very cool cool thing and uh yeah a bit of a balance but um we just I mean we’re trying to play as good as we can um but you give give each
