Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Eui-sun accompanied the golf round of Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to AFP on the 13th (local time), Trump Jr. participated in the Genesis Invitational Pro-Am of the PGA Tour held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego on the 12th.

It was reported that Trump Jr.’s daughter and golfer Kai Trump (18), and golf star Rory McIlroy were accompanied at the meeting.

According to witnesses, Chairman Chung did not do the round, but continued to be with the group and had conversations with the participants. Even after the rounding, Chairman Chung and Trump Jr. reportedly talked for nearly two hours in the dining room.

Trump Jr. is mentioned as a heavyweight to the second Trump administration. Trump Jr., who also participated in the 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns, has become more influential this time, directly recommending his friend, Vice President J.D. Vance, as his father’s “running mate.” Since the election victory, he has been a key behind-the-scenes force in the Trump transition team and has also helped run the Trump family’s real estate business.

In addition to the group’s official event, Chairman Chung’s trip to the U.S. is interpreted as a direct management of his strategy to respond to the “tariff war” after President Trump took office.

President Trump recently decided to impose a 25% high tariff on Mexican products with imported steel and Kia plants. It is also reported that it is considering imposing a 10% universal tariff on imported cars.

Hyundai Motor Group is also considering increasing U.S. production and building a Hyundai Steel mill in the U.S. in preparation for Trump’s risk. There are expectations that the risks can be resolved through a natural meeting with the Trump administration’s top power.
