Idk what your guys opinion on media stuff is but I really don’t give a shit at all about these interviews and never watch them. (Besides when they get posted on here lol)

Media in general sucks ass. The news, Reporters and that tmz shit is all garbage.

This is my first time hearing about any of this and I read the quote the way the reporter said he meant it.

Anyone have a link to the article? Based on what’s posted here, I kind of think Colin is being overly sensitive.

I’m undecided on Darth Collin vs the media the last year or two.

He generally seems like a nice guy. Why do these spats keep happening?

I read Schupak’s original article and all he did was quote a seemingly benign response from Morikawa. Schupak’s presentation was as objective and non-editorializing as you can get.

All I can think is that Morikawa knew he gave the quote in anger and may have even put a little spice on his reply, so when he saw it in print, he thought, “why would you write something that makes me look bad,” without realizing that to the reader, the quote doesn’t make him look bad, at all.

Reporter asked Colin about his caddy situation and he said something like, “I’m playing the pro am, ask me at the press briefing” and the reporter put that quote in the article and Colin took exception. Says to me he is sensitive about the caddy situation. Made a big deal out of nothing. Nobody read the article or would care at all about what he said originally.

Dude is bitching about a quote that made him look like he was annoyed at a reporter for talking to him on the first tee of the ProAm — something precisely zero fans would disagree with him on.

Now he just looks needlessly whiny and combative

Don’t care about this particular “incident” but you guys are not reading the article or quote correctly. The reporter was clearly trying to paint Colin as dismissive and unwilling to address the question. He could have simply held the article until after the question was addressed in the presser. He chose not to.

What is also clear is that there is a clear mistrust between the players and the media at the moment. They are sick of the questions about LIV. They are sick of the heightened media scrutiny due to the higher purses. They are not required to speak and the media is trying to shame them into doing so.

Both sides are at fault and the lack of regulation from the PGA is causing it. Hopefully the new CEO can clean up this absolute mess.

All he had to say was…”I’m just here so I don’t get fined”

I get what he’s saying. It’s annoying enough to be asked a question like that in the first place when you’re trying to focus on your round and be present with your group. It’s extra irritating when you tell the guy you’ll talk to him at the appropriate time, and he actually quotes you dismissing his question. If someone’s prepared to make official statements to the media about something then you let them make the statement and have that conversation; you don’t just rush to quote them saying *whatever* so that you can act like you got him on record addressing it first. It’s not egregious but it’s unprofessional and it’s poor ettiquette. I can see how someone might interpret the quote as having a combative tone, and I think it’s understandable for Colin to feel undermined by its inclusion in the article. Probably gave it about as much of a reaction as it deserved, to be honest. In the first place the journalist just never should have bothered him with the inquiry when there’s already an apportioned time for that conversation later. I agree with the commenter that said it’s a non-story, but I do think if you’re someone who’s interested in sports reporting it’s a good example of how not to go about your business as a beat writer

Impartial journalism is sooooo important to our freedoms. It’s a shame how things have evolved into this clusterfuck of clickbait, finger pointing, misrepresentation. Damn shame.

  12. i_make_drugs

This entire reddit thread and the attention this has got is exactly what Morikawa is talking about. This reporter took a quote from him that’s completely unrelated to his question and used it in an article to gain traction likely KNOWING that it would be brought up later.

They do this shit for clicks, it’s their job. The reporter got exactly what he wanted.

  13. greenflash1775

Reporter is a thin skinned prick making an issue out of something that isn’t. He needs to have a little class and ask his questions at the designated press conference.

  14. Bro needs thicker skin. As a reader, that quote was a big fat nothingburger. Just move on, man.

  15. Mightymiggs

lol I hate when people say “I’m not here to tell people how to do their jobs… “ then go on and proceed to tell them how to do their jobs.

Don’t know the full context here but Colin sounds like he just being super sensitive haha
It’s one article, if you know you weren’t being dismissive then who cares how this journalist is writing it to make it sound like that.

  16. LegitimateRisk-

These golfers are so damn soft man. No one wants to be asked a question. They just want to play the most leisurely sport with no fans and no media and make the same money. Soft soft soft.

  17. AdamOnFirst

Total lack of give a shit on this nothing burger, but Colin is testy and chippy as fuck

  18. Significant-Dog-8166

Golf drama needs to do more. Add cocaine or something.

  19. Expensive-Bag313

Dear all pro golfers, stop doing interviews where it makes you look worse than if you had said nothing at all.

  20. ATarrificHeadache

There’s nothing wrong with what he said or how it was quoted.

  21. mdshowtime

No question about it, the journalist is an asshole.

  22. sloppymcgee

Don’t care about this non-issue but Morikawa is a little guy that won two majors and didn’t take LIV money. I respect that
