hey y’all bearded Bros Golf Show back at it again i am Rod and I’m Marcus hope y’all are doing okay having a good week um we are back at it again on a Tuesday um just seeing how things work out here uh engage in our poll um as the title says you know Shrixon which we’ll get into a little bit later Irons are on fire so I’m just curious what y’all are gaming uh we have talked about Stricks on the last three weeks because they are winning uh the ball the balls and the irons are doing their damn thing so um let let us know what you’re you’re out there gaming and uh curious if it’s something outside of the poll uh throw it in the chat just very interested to see what everybody’s got in the bag here so let’s jump into it let’s go ahead and get the women’s uh PGA Championship out of the way uh yeah ladies first h It’s a major championship so I want to talk about it and um you know give the ladies their uh their due so Miley Lee you know we talking about talked about her in the course of the season that you know the women’s game has been very deep the last handful of years that people even like Meni Lee have been getting lost in the sauce she hasn’t really you know popped up on leaderboards here as of late and you know just wanted to you know see her shine i mean the talent’s there her brother’s also on the come up and um you know just love seeing you know the brother sisters uh you know show their their talent out on the big leagues so she was able to get um her third third major championship um it’s been a while since a win as well um tough conditions out at uh Phil’s Ranch very windy um a lot of criticism of the course from both the players i do have a video queued up about uh the course setup criticism as well um which we’ll talk about that a little bit but uh what did you think how much of it did you get to catch um and did you enjoy it uh I watched quite a bit of it I would say um I don’t know i like I saw the criticisms and stuff like that the criticisms on the course kind of valid but I mean really there’s not a lot you can do when you’re in a wide open course like that and there’s no tree cover there’s hardly any protections against it um it’s in the plain lands of Frisco so it’s it’s real flat it’s going to be windy regardless like what So like to counter counter that what do you do you slow the greens down um what what else can you do i mean you water it you make it a little bit easier to hold fairways but then what we going to shorten the course as well even more it was Well Mel Mel Reed has some counters to all the things that you’re asking but no no no i saw that clip on Mel I saw that clip on Mel Reed as well and it’s like unfortunately that’s why she’s commentating now and not playing the game has passed her by okay I think I should play the video and we’ll come back i think I should play it just to give it a fair shot so that we can respond fairly and those in the audience kind of know what’s happening so be thinking about that in regards to the uh video and we’ll come back to you here in just a sec get blamed for playing slow six hours is brutal but so much of this it feels like this week has come down to core setup mel give us your opinion yeah look I mean you can look at it as a slow play or setup in my opinion I think it’s setup pins were tucked they’re in funky positions a lot of pins at the front down wind back into wind i feel you can get away with it on a weekend but when you’re trying to get 156 players to try and finish the first two rounds you just cannot get away with it and we clearly saw that i want to talk a little bit about golf course setup in general on the LPGA if you look at the scoring average here now the score under 70 there were three players on the LPJ last year that had a scoring average under 70 compared to 87 players on the PGA Tour now is that skill or is that setup i think it’s again I think it’s setup so let’s get into this week it’s a very fine line between challenging and making players look a little bit silly now let’s just do a little bit of math here now the driving average on the LPJ around 260 yards 300 y on the PJ tour 79 average 150 yards on the LPJ compared to 180 yards on the PJ tour now that’s a difference of 70 yards you do that over 18 holes give or take it’s around,00 y so we should be playing golf courses 1100 yd shorter than the men we played yesterday at 6,532 travelers in PJ Tour event was playing at 6,796 that’s a 240 yard difference well it’s not the travelers here you know we’re not This is a major championship this should be way more challenging so then I looked at the PJ Championship compared to KPMG the first two rounds and basically the difference is a,000 yards in between the first two rounds so we’re already playing it 100 yards longer than we need to be look at the firmness of these greens pj Chan was soft it was wet they were able to hold these greens we cannot hold these greens these players we don’t hit it as high we don’t spin it as much so when it is hitting the green it does rolled out significantly the setup here they knew it was going to be windy they knew it was going to be firm they knew it was going to bake out they could have adjusted that accordingly now with setup I think that it’s just not showcasing the ability and the skill of these phenomenal athletes and it is the same conversation we have every single week if you want to really showcase women’s golf in my opinion narrow the fairways they are so accurate narrow the fairways thick up the rough and have it between 62 and 6,400 yards that I really think would showcase the abilities of these incredible players well it’s pretty so let’s go point by point let’s work backwards because it’s most recent on my memory so we’ve talked about that on the in the men’s game in terms of narrowing fairways particularly for majors and then growing up the rough um I mean the rough did seem to be pretty penal out here in terms of when balls would get into the rough they were sitting down but the fairways were wide which is not super uncommon in Texas there’s a lot of courses that are set up in that way what do you think about that particular point of view i mean agreed but I mean when the blow wind is blowing 30 miles an hour I mean it’s going to be hard to hold narrower fairways so that’s why you have wider fairways to make it a little bit more accessible um but it’s a major it’s a major should it be should it be accessible i mean as far as as far as getting into like Well I mean I feel like PGA Frisco is more of like a second shot course of course i mean I mean clearly it is just based off of how like wild the greens are as you heard from Mel Reeves i agree with that point um you can’t always play these wild pins when the wind is up like that you’re there is no moniker to tell how accurate these women are when the wind is blowing the ball so far offline as it is you can try to ride the wind as much as you can or hold it up as much as you can but when you’re not playing at the ball speeds that men are playing at to where the ball is boring through the wind a little bit more or you know they can’t play the ball you know more carry um oriented to where it’s going directly to the flag and they have to play for the release and play for that run out and stuff like that i think that’s where I agree with her on that point but yeah like you said it’s a major championship go ahead i mean it should be hard but I think given I think the pin uh location uh comment that she made kind of right off the top I think to me made the most sense in terms of right it doesn’t it doesn’t make sense that I mean there’s is it going to be a perfect cuz there’s holes that don’t necessarily go the direction of the wind downwind you know you’re going to have some crosswinds here and there cool don’t tuck a pin um on the left side of a green if the you know wind’s coming across right to I don’t know things like that but I do agree on you know a hole that is easily predictable you know whether the wind’s going to be coming north south to center the pins or go you know if it’s a into the wind go center of the green front of the green um I agree with that particular setup i mean you you did see a lot of balls rolling off of of their of the greens um again they didn’t also we tal about the way the coverage is set up while I think overall the course is could be considered flat there were some raised greens as we had texted about um offline and you know that’s tough i I mentioned that I want to I can’t remember which tournament we were discussing but it it was something that noted that popped out to me is the inability on the LPGA for them to get a lot of height and hold greens and as she mentioned they don’t get the same amount of spin off of irons that the men do um you know some of that could be equipment oriented it could be hey we’re we’re catering to the course setups that we’re seeing week in and week out um but I I I said that week whenever whatever course we were discussing I want to say it was um uh the Carlton Woods uh the first major of the year when they were having a tough time holding greens with seven irons and I said if there is a young lady that can come out and really hit a high ball and drop it into pins she could really come out on the LPJ and change the game and dominate pretty quickly um just because that is something that they are not necessarily bringing currently to the game don’t get me wrong we’ve talked about how talented those those women are but there are some aspects that they just don’t have in their games due to physicality um so I don’t know it it it wasn’t necessarily a great TV product i I will say that um you know missing greens from 133 yards having a group of three and no one can hit a green and um there was one particular par three where they had I think it was Friday had the um pin on the right side and people people were coming up short they were missing it right at the green and then everything else was you know when you hit it onto the green it was going away you know everything was feeding away and I was like why didn’t some you know some someone just go to the middle of the green and then have uphill putt for par it it was an interesting setup but not necessarily the greatest watch um you know it’s only our second time seeing Fields Ranch uh East on TV um so the f familiarity was not there either yeah I think um my only other excerpt for that is really just Yeah I think I mean I think also we could agree with the they needing to shorten it a little bit shorten it a little bit but I think if you shorten it then you for sure have to narrow it but I don’t know bro i felt like it was more so the conditions more so than the setup i mean pin locations yeah so that’s part of the setup so let me you know shut up but Right i I mean like three two and three clubs for four straight days that’s really going to be a determining factor if you can play in the win or not and I would think you would it would be a lot easier to play in the win if you do play a lot more on the ground a lower you know trajectory shot right like the women do but Mel Reed has played on the pro level and she knows more about it than me so I’mma give it to her um and I’m going to let her I’m going to let her talk but I I I for the for the viewers I don’t know like I you know I don’t h have a hate for Brandle Shambbley i appreciate the work he puts in she very much sounded like the uh the female version of Brandle Shambbley she got really deep into the the numbers there you it almost loses you with the amount of data that she is throwing out i I totally understand the point um because we’ve said this before and what rang true is that from a amateur standpoint even when you’re talking about some of the longer males that are amateurs um that yardage like kind of low to mid 6,000 yards is probably best fit for us as well right um topend you know amateurs probably hit it the same distance as a uh and we’re we’re talking we’re not talking about amateurs I’m just saying somebody that’s not a plus handicap probably somebody that’s a two to eight maybe up to a 10 in terms of distance very comparable games in terms of distances to the women and so I agree with her that if the more they stretch out these courses you know you’re then they’re pulling out hybrids which again kind of exacerbates the hold whole thing about not being able to hold the green cuz they’re not going to get those hybrids to be able to stop on a dime right that’s just not how their games are set up but um overall I I could do without them returning to Fields Ranch i totally understand that they’re trying to you know feature that course since that’s now the uh PGA headquarters I I get it there’s a lot going on at that facility it’s cool but in terms of being major ready I don’t feel that i don’t think that course is set up for that not for the ladies game make it a regular field event or something like that make it something fun to play uh maybe make it like a twoman event a two lady event something like that i don’t know where you’re playing alternate shot or best ball or something like that to where we can see how you know multiple shots are coming into the green to more accessible flags but yeah I mean I don’t know if the I don’t think them the old men had a that tough a time but they probably didn’t have as bad a conditions last year or two years ago when it was there but um yeah I think this is honestly I just think this is just refreshing because once again they are being put on a premier course on a course that we hold in high regards a course that you know is a little bit more of a top dollar course so kudos to them for at least getting them in the door on playing better course and stuff like that so the ladies game is going to keep going up and that’s what we can and that’s what we can you know relish in and relish in that fact so um hopefully they keep getting them in more and more exclusive courses and you know hold them in the same regards as the men’s game because it is going that way absolutely um and you know one of the other criticisms that that the course was just uh unimaginative that was coming from uh Angel Yen and I get that i mean when you’ve play you know they’re coming off of kind of their East Coast swing there’s a lot more I would say imagination to courses that are on the East Coast rather than Texas courses i mean not that they’re boring i mean golf is to me could never be boring right because you still have to go out no matter what course you’re playing and and hit shots um but here I mean really the hazards are crossing over creeks and um you know Bermuda rough which is not something that they always play in the the hazards are just different and there’s not a lot of landscape a lot of the um architectural stuff that happened with golf courses in Texas are essentially manufactured right creating hills where there were no hills um you see a lot of cross bunkers in Texas to kind of combat the flat fairways and just to to provide some break in the uh the viewpoint going into a green so I get that if you’ve if you’ve been experiencing a different type of golf and come to Texas it can be considered a downgrade which is hard to say uh because it’s our home state but I mean and I think that’s why I get excited about courses that are that are in Texas that are outside of the box and are built around you know more interesting areas but you know Frisco is just wide open it’s just it was a plain land it was farmland before this literally literally flat land like people don’t understand that like if you’re from Dallas you kind of you kind of get where it’s where we’re coming from with this but like if you’re not from the area you do not understand how much of like you could literally call that Kansas you could literally call that Oklahoma it was that flat it was that barren and they built a city out of nowhere because they had the money to this is like on the outskirts of South Lake Carroll so it’s up in that region where the money is flowing you know we we can create it we got land and stuff like that so yeah it’s unfortunate that it was out there direct directionally I would say South Lake Carol is more west but Frisco is it actually is closer it’s closer to it’s almost sometimes when I go there I feel like I’m closer to Oklahoma than I am to Dallas right like the central I mean you what I mean it’s an hour away from Dallas because it’s an hour and a half from where our hometown is so it’s easily an hour away from Dallas i mean and from Dallas to Oklahoma what three hours if that two and a half no two two and two and change exactly so yeah you are very right to think that it is approximate to Oklahoma to us no for sure yeah all right well shout out to Miy Lee hopefully she’s able to you know keep it going as we always wish upon folks especially for her um returning to the winner circle hopefully she can keep the momentum going for her career um we just love to see the talented women like a brother yep absolutely so let’s move on to the PGA tour tommy Fleetwood bro what what are we up to 15 155 starts 155 starts without a win 100% 100 100% i thought Go ahead absolutely there is nothing you can say besides the nerves got him he had the game for 70 out of the 72 holes the nerves got him period um I mean yeah we can say it was that one putt at the end all you want to but even then I still don’t think it had a chance to go uh even with the hump even with the bump or whatever it was that people zoomed in on 4K or whatever it looked like a swipe the whole way compared to um Keegan’s putt where it looked like it was rolling true it was a little bit more left to start and broke left or right in i I don’t No I think I think it goes back I agree that with the nerves 100% you that it was literally uncomfortable watching him in the fairway of 18 um changing clubs trying to decide what was going on to the with the wind the body language looked horrible um I mean hell you you can’t go wrong going long on that hole right right i mean the pin was the pin was tucked over the bunker you can send it beyond the flag and then you have a two putt just just get on the green so he goes back down to a pitching wedge from 147 out ends up short of the green just short of the green um putts up you know does not pull the wedge ends up with that like you said that that putt that missed and you know doesn’t even end up in the playoff uh with Keegan Bradley he had a bogey a couple of holes before that um so the nerves definitely got to him which it sucks because he’s so talented and you want you’re you’re rooting for the guy i mean at the end of the day um Tommy’s a a a funloving guy you’ve never heard him come up in any controversy um you know writer cups all all those things but when it comes to performing and he mentioned he hadn’t been in that position in a while um you know said he wants to get back out there and you know try to put himself in a position again which yeah we’re we’re all rooting for him um cuz that that was painful to watch truly i mean he’s one of those guys where I mean again just another picturesque swing um tailor made through and through so you know you’re always going to big him big up him for that for the allegiance he’s got a spider putter now i mean the the spider putter don’t get me wrong me and Rod have talked about this off stream dude all the alignment lines that he uses on the front end of his fighter it is demonic i cannot for the life of me I could like back it away from me i cannot see that many stripes on a putter and think it’s like and think it’s good for my game but um I mean the swing is too pure for him to not have gotten it done i think right he I think he needs to change his mentality when it comes to contending but only just so that he doesn’t feel as nervy as he is going to before he crosses the finish line on the PGA Tour he’s won on the DP World Tour whatever he’s won you know in the Ryder Cup so he’s won he’s the most storied nonwinner on the PGA Tour now he’s made the most money cashed the most checks as a non-winner so it’s not like he doesn’t know how to make money it’s not like he doesn’t know how to swing the golf club it’s not like he doesn’t know how to put himself in the position mentally he just needs to figure out what’s the best you know avenue for him and hopefully under pressure that’ll get him done right under pressure under pressure and and I didn’t I I you know watched watched it back a couple times i didn’t like the the back and forth between him and the caddy i I feel like that’s where the caddy’s got to do a better job of reading his man and this is the club yeah just say “Hey man this is the club.” Yeah talk talk him into a decision uh right again I go I I go I go back to the body language and it was super indecisive which means you don’t necessarily put your best swing on it and I don’t know it just didn’t look like a committed swing i mean honestly like he is one of the better the best ball one of the best ball strikers that are out there on the PGA Tour when you look at him you know hold the hole ball striking is incredible um so it it’s it’s in his head at this point um so you hope that he can overcome that i did bring up his uh a picture of his putter and the madness just because I think it’s it’s always worth viewing the craziness that is his putter come on i will say this though as well Rod i think the fact still remains though it’s hard to go backto back low rounds though that’s That’s crazy that’s too much and and clearly handdrawn i mean it’s not exactly the neatest paint job either so um yeah that’s a lot my god my god um i mean I get what you’re saying in terms of backtoback i I get that in terms of low rounds but this is what we were talking about with JJ uh spawn earlier in the year i totally understand that but when it comes down to the final round shoot at par that that’s like should be the bare the bare minimum right even if you trying to play safe shoot even par if he shoots even par what happens he wins by one stroke shooting even par he shoots two over he loses by by a stroke it’s pretty simple man play loose enough to go play par golf you don’t have to take any special risk or do anything crazy but shooting over par in the final round even if you’ve gone low the uh previous day h just that’s the stuff that loses tournaments we’ve seen that time and time this year um we were very critical like I said of JJ Spawn earlier in the year like “Hey bro go shoot a score on the final day.” Um we’ve discussed that I think at least three weeks where it’s like come on what’s up with the final round scaries where we can’t get people to perform at just a basic level go shoot your worst you know yeah it still may be your worst round of the tournament but it don’t shoot over par and expect to win so right it hurts to see him you know be have three strokes going into the final round and not be able to pull it off it just does it sucks for him but on the other end um we Captain America Captain America notches another win uh it’s his second in two years won the BMW championship out in Colorado last year um capture this this one in you know his they always say it’s like his hometown area but I mean New England Connecticut all is I guess it’s all the same right so his second time winning this one won this one turn this tournament back in 23 as well so he’s had a win every year for the last three years um his eighth win in his career also has a PJ championship going back to 2011 so on though this is three weeks in a row we’ve gone Ryan Fox uh JJ Spawn both of them playing the ZXI 5 and ZXI7 um you know Ryan Fox was through and through with the bag with um with the you know Woods as well uh JJ Spawn a little bit more of a mixed bag but Keegan also not playing the ZXis but he’s playing uh let me pull it up here just for reference to fell out of my brain the ZX-5 Mark II and the ZX-7 Mark II so a slightly different model and then in his pitching wedge he’s playing the ZForged um two from Shrixan and all three of those gentlemen playing the Cleveland RTZ tour rack wedges um some version of Cleveland wedges and all of them playing the Shrixon um Zstar Diamond it seems to be a winning combination they figured Yeah something out um and it’s pretty impressive i I don’t know like I I said not a bad looking iron but we’ve we’ve seen them perform and again the ball the ball is really really good it’s really really good y’all it’s matching up go it It really is catching up so what do you what do you think about Keegan Bradley um I I’ll ask first do you think his career is overrated at this point 39 years old clearly got the nod as um Rder Cup captain game has been I mean he’s been performing i mean he’s been at the top of leaderboards and clearly able to close the deal out the last three years um what what do you think about his career up to this point um overrated underrated or properly rated um I guess I’d have to say properly properly rated i don’t think like he didn’t really have like the coldest college career at St john’s but you know made enough of a mark and then went out one early but I don’t I think he’s a hot streak player like it’s not like you know what I’m saying like he’s not like I don’t know i mean I felt like he’s not like unfortunately JT or Speed where they came out one early continued to win because they were skilled and you know could put backtoback weeks together keegan Bradley won the PGA in 2012 and then we didn’t see him like really for a while but he did enough to make it onto the Ryder Cup he had a big impact on that Ryder Cup for the most part until you know the ghost of Seviest came back and won the won the Europe European side that writer Cup or whatever that they keep saying um but yeah I think it’s properly rated i think he has found himself he is at peace with what he’s got going and so that’s why I think he won last year in Colorado at Cherry Hills or whatever course that was um and why he was on the leaderboard there but yeah I he’s a quirky guy he like I don’t know how to explain it interesting so let’s go back through the wins right so in 2011 he won the uh Byron Nelson and also his PGA Championship 2012 2011 okay yeah yeah um WC Bridgestone Invitational Firestone okay that’s a pretty good win we have a pretty big gap um from 2012 2018 no wins and then wins the BMW championship then we have another four-year gap and then so the last four years I I I missed one four years he’s had a win so we go 22 Zozo 23 Travelers 24 BMW Championship 25 the Travelers Championship so that’s why it feels very he seems very constant to me that he’s been in our consciousness of good golf to win four straight years um I think that’s what was super impressive about Dustin Johnson for the longest period of time that the man had had like wins for like I I don’t know the number but it felt like 12 years something like Yeah like 11 straight seasons something like that right which is impressive right that shows some consist consistency clearly Tommy Fleetwood shows us that winning is not easy but you know it also once you cross over that threshold it can become easier and you kind of know what to do once you get in that position i always compare this to the first time I I I it’s my little personal example the first time I scored 20 in a basketball game it became easier for me to break down how to get to 20 you know certain amount of free throws couple of field goals you know a two-pointer and a three-pointer in the same quarter you start thinking about creative ways to do it you know same thing with golf and breaking 80 facts i mean it’s crazy like not I mean sorry I’m gonna go off on a tangent but like just think about it two layups and a three-pointer per quarter that’s 28 points right right it doesn’t seem that complicated right and Rashad MC couldn’t do it i even think about it like again when I’m trying to think about how to play efficient golf and you know when I first started playing you know I had no concept of you know breaking the score you know down into certain segments so like in my brain when I’m playing now I look at everything in like three hole segments and I’m trying to go through every three holes a goal and and it clearly it doesn’t happen um but you know somewhere between 12 strokes and no more than 15 strokes in a threehole stretch right let’s say you you go through and you have 12 12 that’s a 36 so you’re either going one over or you’re even in some courses you know that kind of mindset and worst case scenario you end up like nine over for the side if you go 15 15 in the three hole stretch and you know you sneak a couple pars in there you know on the back end whatever you still stay in the 80s so just breaking the game down into smaller chunks I I don’t know that’s how I think about it so anyway I I can’t even remember how we got on this tangent and you helped me go further down this tangent talking about [Laughter] Damn you damn you we were talking about um being consistent and um breaking and breaking the seal pause yeah yeah so yeah i mean I don’t know i I clearly Keegan Bradley has figured out the formula in the last four years to get over the hump do you think the way he’s been playing and again it’s this is not just him popping up this week he has been playing pretty consistent golf um beyond just hey I won this one I came out of nowhere uh I want to pull up his uh finishes so far jesus in the meantime yes I do think he deserves to be the playing captain if that’s what you were going to ask me because I do honestly think he does deserve it um do I think it’s going to be I mean we got to go I’m not going back to Arnold Palmer i’mma go back to 2019 i’m going go back to the President’s Cup it doesn’t hold like as much power but you gotta think about what Tiger did as a playing captain in 2019 bro floated and we cooked so I think at Best Paige uh hometown guy I mean most of his people from the Northeast and stuff like that he played at St john’s they snuck over and played so that’s another story he said they would literally sneak over onto the fourth hole out of the eye shot of the range i mean outside of the the pro shop I’m sorry and would play 14 holes so he knows the course it’s not like he hasn’t been out there a thousand times or whatever um so yeah and then the last two years of play h it has warranted it for me to make it but the only thing that I would say is the American team is so deep right now that I don’t know it might be a case of is he stealing a spot from somebody more deservingly because of how deep the team is but I mean I mean let’s you know what go through his I have the results pulled i have his results from the last from this year pulled do you have writer standings no I don’t have that i just have it you can pull that up i’m going to go through his results this year and why he’s felt so constant so of course he got the win this week uh US Open T33 i mean we saw him during the weekend so feels very very recent the Memorial um elevated event T7 pj Championship T8 uh the Truist which was another elevated event T30 rbc Heritage T18 um he was cut at the Masters uh Valero T47 Players T20 Arnold Palmer T5 Genesis T34 uh Pebble Beach T65 Farmers T15 uh the Sony T6 and the Century T15 so a lot of top 20s handful of top tens you know just got the win he’s had a pretty only cut once at the Masters that’s a that’s a pretty consistent season that is topping a lot of guys that even if the US is deep as it relates to performance hell he might just I don’t know if you have it pulled up he might be able to make it just off points alone he’s ninth right now so here’s uh top 12 scotty far and away the furthest he’s 15,000 points besides the next person then it gets kind of jumbled up xander two jj Spine right behind him two like about 200 points russell Henley is four dshan Bo is five jt is six morokawa is seven ben Griffin is eight keegan Bradley nine Harris English 10 Maverick Manily 11th Brian Harmon 12 and then as a moniker Andrew Noak is 13 you got to stop using moniker i don’t think you’re using that right every time you’re not using that right every time so stop anyway I’mma look it up i’mma look it up i’m I’m surprised that Harrison Harris English is like that high i mean he just doesn’t seem like he’s been that good so that’s somewhat surprising to me that’s probably the only one that pops out is and I would think Ben Griffin actually would be higher but those two are a little bit for playing in lesser field events not really all the events he was competing in were good like the Colonials not an elevated event the Zurich wasn’t an elevated event you know that was a team so it probably wasn’t that many points but um if you asking me Keegan got to be on the team brian Harmon is not cannot be on the team i would Where was Brian where was Harmon what what number 12 he’s right on 12 oh yeah top six top six automatically qualify and then they pick six or I think Or is it top eight and you pick four i thought I think Europe is six and six okay if they get to pick six okay if they get the pick six Morawa is in there i think you put Ben Griffy as a rookie Keegan Harris McNeely and then I don’t know you might have to throw I don’t know you might have to throw Sam Burns in there because we all you always need a putter on the team and Sam Burns is 15 and he’s got the game going i hope Sam can get hot i hope Sam can get into Yeah yeah but I agree plays patrick Hley just plays so much he is 14 somehow he ain’t had a good season to like note to like to note but like the two years that he’s played he’s played good enough to be 14 on the standings but I just I’m not seeing it for Pat this year he Patty Ice has iced himself he He ain’t got it he ain’t got it play so yeah we both agree put put Keegan Bradley in there i think he’s deserving i think he’s played well enough yeah he’s just got to go off like first off like Tiger was doing put yourself You ain’t got to play every session you play like you’re going to play solos already then find you a good partner that you vibe with um and then play like three out of the five sessions call it quit like you ain’t got to be in every session you know what I’m saying right just be the emotion you know what he he gives me um you know just the hype man type of vibe you know yeah no I think and that’s what I’m saying i think it could be good like I don’t know if Sam Burns likes Keegan Bradley but I think that would be like a perfect kind of like duo or maybe I don’t even like really saying his name but like Bryson Dshambo and Keegan Bradley as a team they could probably be really good uh I’m trying to think about who he get paired with do you think he could hype up JJ Spine you know JJ Spine is way too even kill i think he could I think he could gas him up get him a little bit Get him a little bit ramped up i think they’d be a good a good matchup i mean yeah you you would take uh Keegan off the tea box because I mean he’s still incredibly long off the tea right um the fact that he he was uh beasting Rory in those first couple of rounds Rory was hitting first quite a bit the first two days so I mean you you get uh Keegan’s length off the tea with JJ JJ Spawn’s iron game that’s a pretty good combo man there’s a lot of good I’m seeing a lot of good I’m just looking through the list i’m seeing a lot of good duos i mean you gotta go Xander Morawa you gotta go JT and like a Harris English i mean you Scotty can carry anybody he can vibe with anybody i I’m really seeing or like for instance say for instance Sam Burns does make the team scotty and Sam i think that’s a good duo there’s a light there bro there’s some good stuff that’s gonna be This Rder Cup’s gonna be good it’s going to be good and they’re playing on home turf so not that you want to just lock it in that it’s Yeah that that’s what it would be if they don’t win I I I’d put it down to it being a choke um Right it’s easy to see the European crowds u bringing the energy but um and and how they get toppled overseas but the same thing should happen um on the US side this year right before we move on let’s talk about kind of in in the same vein of Tommy Fleetwood not getting that win there’s a notable list that the PGA Tour actually put out on their own website of you know high potential players guys that we know their name but don’t have a win yet um Tommy Fleetwood Cameron Young uh been on Denny McCarthy has been close not close recently but there was like a two or threeyear stretch where he was having some really tight finishes at the top but not able to cross over and at first I was I raised my eyebrow when they put this name on there but Luke Clanton uh the rookie that just got his card here recently which I get it like after thinking about it I I was after I got over being offended that he was on the list I thought about it like okay we have had a lot of these young guys come up and get wins pretty quickly i mean in hell he’s had some decent finishes on the PGA Tour prior to actually turning pro so I guess really not not saying not going the same direction as that list but of those five do you who do you think gets a win first um of those five so Fleetwood Young Benon McCarthy or Luke Clanton who do you think has the best odds to to get their first win out of that group i mean out of those two it’s got to be I mean it’s got to be Fairway Jesus you think so it’s got to be Tommy Flewood and then the next closest one would be Cam Young just because of how easy he at how easy the distance is for him um I’m not seeing it for Benon i mean he’s in he’s in putter turmoil pretty much every week he doesn’t flip-flop like like Hideki Matsyama but I mean he’s going with the long putter but he’s just bad he’s a bad putter yeah um Exactly i actually the number one putter If the putter hadn’t been as hot I think I’m I’m picking Clinton i will honestly say that Clinton to me is my pick as the one in that group because one he doesn’t have the scar tissue built up like the other guys um I honestly would believe in Fleetwood from a talent standpoint but I think Clinton has I think it’s he gets one of these maybe off-week wins maybe in a uh crossover field event maybe that Barracuda playing a little Stapleford action i don’t know hey don’t Hey don’t put don’t lump him in with that cuz I think he’s I think he’s honestly going to get an exemption into like the Scottish or something like that i don’t even think he would stupid slow to play the barracuda now one of these week and now like he might get into the field at the John Deere or something like that and win that or like the Isco the Isco championship same week they play the Scottish the Isco you know what I’m talking about it was the last year they had like a five player uh playoff or something like that I don’t know that I don’t know my opinions on Lan so that one’s uh in in what way uh I mean it was kind of like the discussion we were having last year about is he earning his spot in the field you know what I’m saying no okay so what do you I don’t remember no well we were talking about what’s your overall thought i I don’t think he like I mean he’s a number one amateur but like he’s gotten so many opportunities to already win like I don’t I’m just Yeah i mean he I mean the truth is honestly when you’re you know a top amateur and and all it takes is like one one time right where you compete and you play well and then for sponsorship sake it looks good for them to bring a young kid in um especially if they’re going to perform now if he’s one of these guys that goes in misses the cut then it becomes kind of pointless right but we know already known he’s a he’s a Nike athlete um you know he’s already got the uh NIL stuff going on so he’s already a name um even though we’re not local i mean it was interesting i I watched this kind of rando on um Tik Tok who’s a football player talking about his NIL deals and how he had made over like $150,000 in a year and he wasn’t even a starter and and so I’m like thinking about somebody like a Luke Clanton how many sponsorships he’s got with you know of course the Nike but then other local stuff so he’s bigger honestly than we even perceive so I can see him getting getting a shot from a uh you know an exemption standpoint and in no harm no foul like like I said if he performs then cool give him all the exemptions that he can get now if he starts sucking it up or had he started sucking it up um you know then yeah you know then he would be kind of a Nepo nepo baby but I I don’t know to me he’s he’s he’s highly talented i think he gets it done um Cam Young I’m I’m not down on him but the hothead kind of fiery i mean we just saw a couple of weeks ago where he was mad about the RBC uh Canadian where he flew the green and seemed irrationally mad at we don’t know what right and so still trying to figure it out the ball the club his swing the wind like what’s up yeah what did he say i’ve never hit a fivewood that far okay man well you just juiced one you know whether it was the adrenaline the wind switched up on you right okay bro you juiced one i don’t I still Yeah I still don’t know what happened with that and then he just completely choked the chip like I I don’t know bro i know um [ __ ] that’s that’s it from from golf this week uh the No let’s get into the Rocket it’s a crazy I don’t like I’m not saying it’s a crazy field oh yeah but it’s actually the hangover from the the elevated event is long over keegan’s in the field a lot of those top guys is in the field bro i was looking through the ti I was looking through the t-sh pulled up here minu Lee Windham Clark they’re going off early 68 618 our time keegan Bradley Morocawa Patrick Canley all on the same tea time uh Batia Ricky Fowler Pit Pitz Patrick all on the same tea time i saw him getting some swings in he’s on yep um Afternoon’s got some good tea times too yeah man um I mean Joel Damon Keith Mitchell they’re in the same group so they’re doing they’re they got some names together steven Joerger’s in that that Jake Nap he’s a former winner ben Griffin Hideki Matsyama Matt all together Sew Kim Chris Kirk Davis Thompson Gary Woodland Cam Young Austin Ecro you got some groups yeah there’s it’s some groups for for the golf junkies it’s not a bad tournament and honestly I I like I like um what is it what’s the course detroit Country Club bro it’s Detroit Golf Club they’re going to play bro they’re going to play till like the mid20s so we going to see if they can score and I like the setup it’s an old school course it’s not particularly long either um we’ll see how the Yeah we’ll see how the core setup plays that they got some deep rough going on which we’ve seen consistently all year but on it’s been one of my favorite not favorite tour stops but I watch I tune in um it typically is a pretty tight leaderboard going into Sunday so you don’t see anybody running away with this tournament and it’ll be it’ll be good golf down at the end um special shout out I just saw this one today um to a guy that I’ve been following for a while Joe Hooks um brother that’s been on the APGA been trying to grind at it for years trying to you know put himself out there on social media um won the John Shipping uh Classic to get into this event so um it’s his first start on the PGA Tour i mean you don’t typically expect much out of uh you know a first start but um kudos to him i mean he’s been grinding at it for a long time um so you know I don’t know who Jackson Suber is but but shout out Trist Tristine our favorite Trist Lawrence oh he’s been with Roback too roback been throwing him some money for a while too who hooks yeah yeah he own some of their commercials or I guess that’s right they’re not big enough to be on commercials but like you know their Instagram little Oh the little push ads yeah shout out to him and uh Will Willie Mack III um right [Laughter] longtime uh anything anything else from uh the world of golf i mean it tell me like the Champions Tour is like the most forgettable like I I don’t know why it’s so bad it’s so bad like I’ve not been able to watch I have not been able to watch Champions Tour this year it’s just not good it’s not watchable bro they need to bring Unfortunately they do need to let Phil come on through they need to let Phil play bro some They need some notoriety back out there ernie else ain’t doing it steve Strigger don’t play enough anymore you know he had his little hot streak yeah couples isn’t playing as much yeah uh nobody DJ’s not playing as much who’s really excited about Jerry Kelly like I’m not sitting here i mean to go watch Jerry Kelly even David Dval looks miserable when he’s playing he just looks like he does not want to be out there he just need to stick to commentary david Duval you know you’ve made you’ve made your money bro go ahead just get in the booth we like to hear what you have to say bro it’s okay that boy Paul Asinger finally got him a check again he’s out there having him i saw him check he had bro Paul Azinger had the second button undone on the broadcast the other day i’m like he is real casual giving no fs like whole chest out bro oh my god he’s so comfortable bro he is comfortable i I would say the only player right now on the uh senior tour that I actually would tune in to watch is Anel Cabrera just cuz I want to see I just I don’t know i love his swing um Anahl Jame I hate like I do not like that man at all miguel I I feel like they have uh some propaganda out on him i’ve seen that clip from back in the day when Keegan Bradley confronts him about go to your ball like I’ve seen that pop up like way too many times lately um I’m like is there a campaign okay that makes sense that makes sense yeah Miguel just won last week but you know we wouldn’t know because we don’t watch that tour but um I’m not Yeah I’ve tried you know you catch it like I think you catch that I think you catch that tour more on accident than anything like you wake up from a nap and catch the replay at like 11 like were y’all even were y’all even on live no or they try to sneak it in they sneak it in they’ll go from the 12 to 12 yeah yeah they’ll do the two 12 to two window of the PGA Tour preview and then boom it just pops up and you’re like “Oh damn i got trapped.” They They’re trying to They try to loop you in so give give me Golf Central pregame please please give me give me golf school school of golf golf academy anything please and and apparently the uh champions PJ tour champions went into a playoff last week too with uh Jimenez and Steve Aler um and it looks I don’t know the scoring’s weird on Google let me look this up i’m so curious now it just says Langer is still you know like they can’t they ain’t even got nothing with him like him i don’t know man okay bro um okay random story since you brought up Bernard Langanger um I was playing with a Sunday group this week and we were talking about putters and talking about anchoring i said “Yeah Bernard Longer is 100% anchoring.” And had somebody in the group he’s such an honest man i don’t think he would anchor i didn’t want to argue it was the first time I’d ever played with this person before and I was like I’m I am not going to argue with him about this what that’s what they said they That’s what But you can guess the the same type of person that was defending uh longer in our video is the same type of person that was uh so anyway let’s let’s talk a little bit of NBA Finals go ahead go ahead um we’ve been talking we’ve been seeing it more i saw another douche sweeper i saw another broomstick in the wild and Buddy was here buddy was early like I caught him multiple times out the at the putting green when I’m staring out the window bro was getting his practice in standing straight up it was It was away from the chest clearly it was it was He was more like here he wasn’t really bent over but you could tell he wasn’t anchoring because it was kind of like counterbalance and you could see the top end moving too much so he didn’t really have he wasn’t really using the the he he was not using the proper technique for that club no he wasn’t stable bro he wasn’t stable at all well let’s talk NBA Finals yeah you’re you’re tangenting today um it’s over i While I liked I like Why you say it like that cuz it was just not It didn’t pay off i I mean I mean we we you know in our text you know Tik Tok conversation about you know the the things that I miss i I found I feel like the old man now late 90s NBA finals used to be a whole event i remember the music you know that like it was when you knew when that came on you know when you were in the house it was appointment viewing the logos were iconic the logos were on the court i feel like you know they got criticism early on in the finals for not having logos on the court so they started superimposing them then they got lazy again near the end of the finals with it um we talked about the hats it just used to be a whole event and celebration and it just felt kind of antilimatic then you throw in the Hallebertton injury i hate seeing the team lose based on injuries and not having a full complement of players but do you fault him for playing through um half tightness no you can’t because it’s the finals and it’s a game seven and he would look like a you know he’d be weak if he didn’t play and said “I can’t do it.” Right but but now that we’ve seen this repeatedly calf tightness leading to ruptured Achilles I even told my own experience that you know looking back when when I ruptured my Achilles I had experienced some irritation and you know right above my Achilles had been irritated up to that point and sure enough it was the exact same move that Hallebertton made head fake left foot put you know dribble down extend another right foot and it just drops out from underneath you same exact experience so that reason I didn’t love um kind of the end of the finals the game seven felt kind of hollow um I I don’t know nba just has to figure some stuff out um I’m not loving these offseason trades so far um you know I’m going to you know of course as ma as suffering Mavericks fans you know I hope they don’t screw up the draft and last minute tradeway Cooper flag or the pick for something but I don’t know i It just didn’t feel like the finals matched kind of my re-engagement with Hoops this year like I watched more basketball this year than I had in a very long time and uh I I enjoyed the game play games one through six the you know style of basketball fast pace little bit of defense you know here and there it wasn’t a three ball fest i mean people were actually shooting midies and taking it to the takes you to the rim it wasn’t just throwing up a bunch of threes unless they were wide open so yeah I don’t know you do you feel different about it do you I mean what were your thoughts and feelings on the uh the finals and how the season ended uh I mean I got to go back to game whatever game it was where Ben Matherin missed those free throws they they missed a bunch of free throws late and it really took the wind out the sales for me i mean OKC ended up getting a dub and then I think that was game three where they ended up okay that was game three but they ended up going up 2-1 OKC did when it could have easily been 2-1 Indie and then it would have really easily been uh oh no no no it I’m sorry I’m sorry it was game four because even SGA talked about it in the presser afterwards talking about it’s a big difference between 3-1 compared to 22 you know what I’m saying so then Yeah so then they went on to win game five 3-2 and I think that was it and really to be fair I don’t know how Indiana won game six okc came out so flat and so dead they really should have just ended it in game six and been disrespectful and celebrated in Indiana but for some reason they out here looking for TV ratings and wanted to do it in OKC i don’t know but yeah I didn’t watch game six and I and I barely watched game seven i watched like the second and third quarter then OKC you know ended up spreading out you know kind of chasing it away and getting the lead up so I went to the grocery store or something like that came back lee was like Lee was like 16 i’m like I did the right thing it ain’t even worth watching you can’t on your phone and stuff like that yeah once the injury happened I was like it’s a done deal there’s not enough uh they they couldn’t adjust that fast without Hallebertton yeah i mean that was that was Sunday right sunday was game was game Yeah that was game seven why am I acting so oblivious yeah I was at work so I was closing that day so like I watched um my group chat was talking about it and I didn’t even get a chance to see it and I think I had golf on in the shop or something like that watching the Travelers replay or PGA or some replay i don’t know but I didn’t watch it till I got home i was very but yeah so that came that happened and I was pretty sad so yeah bro it was kind of disappointing um what other any other randomness uh you got on on the deck for this week blade collar thanks i appreciate that i love it i bro I got like I’m I’m bringing them back if I got to do it myself i got like Please don’t chill i got like four i got like a light I got like a sky blue swanies one i got like three Nikes bladed collars shoot these things still rock to me anyways um I don’t know golf apparel let’s talk golf apparel what’s some of your favorite brands rock um you you want an honest answer uh like straight up Ben Hogan brand from Walmart i don’t even know why you saying I don’t but Ben Hogan’s fire though like they make good quality clothes they do they make you know You know what’s even it’s unique i like their shorts are even higher quality than their shirts and for a really good price you can get a high quality pair of shorts for under $20 they’re they’re kind of too long for me though they they um as a merchandiser we look at inseams now and that’s just it’s too long they run in like 10 inch inseams still and I can’t do it bro i’m really like a like Okay seven is too small seven’s too eight is the one it’s eight or nine and we’re rocking just right above the knee slight little you know you you still got some lunness looseness in the pockets like nobody can see like your ball marker and your divot tool in your pocket you know what I’m saying there’s some looseness there but yeah I really enjoy Ben Hogan anything else you like are like searching um this this other random brand it’s on Amazon uh primarily but it’s called Mail Rig m A E L and I know this has to stand for something else m A E L R E G they have so many variations of shirts that I don’t see anywhere else and it’s a high quality shirt really understated uh logo they just have like a diamond on the uh the sleeve so you know like nobody really cares but some really unique patterns and high quality materials um that’s a brand that I’ve really when when I do pop on Amazon for whatever reason um that’s your stuff as far as like shoes um apparel wise go ahead as far as apparel goes I’m still really enjoying Nike the the Nike that I have and then we’re gonna we have a meeting with their new rep that our new local rep so hopefully we’ll be getting them back in the shop pretty soon but I still enjoy the quality that they have um I really enjoy um honestly shirtwise polo wise Puma makes a really quality polo that is just comfortable to me especially at like that XL to 2XL size that I’m at right now fjoy is kind of baggy at XL and way too baggy at 2X travis Matthew just kind of switched their quality as far as moisture wicking goes they’re more of a lifestyle brand so they’re kind of like a thicker kind of like more knit and cotton so it’s like you want to say it’s Northeast but there’s the Cali brand it’s literally from California california you know if you’re in the right area it’s 70 or 80 degrees all year round right off the coast so they don’t really have like a need for like yo it’s hot we need something that’s gonna get all this sweat so I really enjoy Travis Matthew in theory but like until like they kind of switch over performance more yeah and get more performance then I I just don’t really see myself wearing them outside of like the pro shop but like um what you thinking about like Well hold on real quick on the shirts you know a feature that I wish more uh golf shirts would come with is a button collar where the tips of the uh you know the corner of the shirt are buttoned down and don’t fly no that’s a nice little look no that’s a nice look that’s a nice touch and like or or the ones that have like that plastic little stability holder thing to keep it crisp i like that too you’re right i I’d been b buying some uh plastic collar stays for the longest time i’ve kept them in my in my repertoire for like the last five years particularly for golf shirts just because the little bacon neck is annoying as hell for me so I I it’s just a little plastic triangle you stick it on the inside it’s clear nobody ever knows it’s there and it keeps it pretty firm so um that’s the one feature it just adds to the look keeps it keeps it tight right um but in terms of footwear I I’ve been leaning it it’s weird cuz like really all summer I’ve been uh nothing but foot joy um like I put on some low top you know Air For uh Jordan 1’s that I had and I don’t know it just didn’t feel as stable so I had been playing in my traditions um it’s like the blot bloucher or something uh with this like grand white cam yeah whatever they are blue shirt with the gray and white camo bottom i’m want to go back and get the one that kind of has like a It’s like a gum bottom but it’s like a deeper brown um yeah like after after two we traditions A1 like amazing um and my premieres from like three years ago have been getting heavy still holding it down heavy used holding it down i just put some like whitener on there the other day they look damn near brand new and and the stitch like high quality stitching like no no tears give or anything and let me tell you something under 225 out of them oh 100% like plus some i mean I’m I’m on year I’m trying to think when I bought those it’s like I’m like year three or four and still holding up like a champ the uh soft spikes are still doing well something that I have discovered um that is like a game changer the FootJo joy like they’re not a no-show sock but the ones with the little small puff on the back of the heel come right above the the shoe line that is the best sock like ever I have ever worn they do not fall below into the shoe they are like thick without being too hot but Joy has got something with those socks listen bro socks are crazy clutch right now bro it’s insane the difference a nice sock will do um PE features features is a decent brand as far as socks go now you know how it goes with golf some of the stuff is pricey just because it’s golf specific which still annoys me to this day but yeah like like those FG FJ socks are $10 a pair it that’s [ __ ] ridiculous but they feel like they’re worth it right i agree um so yeah I definitely agree with socks um man I can’t bro my Jordan bro you’re still on Jordan yeah bro i got two colorways of them but I really want to I’m I just really need to bite the bullet and go ahead and get the the Hyperflex i really want to try them out we were supposed to be I mean with our FootJoy rep we were supposed to get them for the team we were supposed to get some but looks like I’m gonna just have to go buy my own which I’m okay with but I don’t want to buy them if we’re going to get some for free so that’s what kind of like why I was waiting around for them but you know that’s two three months removed now so I might just have to get my own and then there’s we have a colorway of traditions that I want to try out um but I was a big traditions guy originally so I might that’d be my way back in it’s like a navy it’s white navy with a little pink aftertone i definitely think I’m going to go into those you and your navy shoes but honestly uh this this current version of Trai Traditions is the best that they put out it’s the most comfortable um a pair that I have from a couple of years ago like I didn’t like the um still it it was too stiff like they never broke in right i had a pair too and so that’s kind of why I went away from them but if they going to come back and they looking good like they do and they’re going to and the comfort is going to be there then yeah I think I’m going to join back in the ball game foot Joy always makes just like a consistent a consistent product it’s just a matter of the fit so yeah the way you’re talking them up I’m g have to get me some and maybe even just get in the door with some premieres and stuff like that as well but yeah I just wanted to to to to see see your thoughts on the 2025 fashion season no doubt all right y’all well you know where where we’ll be next week we’ll probably jump back to Mondays um la last Tuesday last Tuesday was epic we thought we’d try it out again so um we’ll catch y’all back again next Monday unless Marcus is closing at the shop for whatever reason right we’ll see we’ll see we’ll let y’all know we’ll we’ll tell you where we’ll be um Beer Bros Golf Show we’ll be back at it then i’m Rod and I’m Marcus peace out y’all
