Cambridge Stud’s Cameron Ring was the inaugural winner of the Entain Supreme Excellence Award last year and he reflects on the special night that celebrates the enormous young talent in our industry.
[Music] my name is Cameron Ring i’m the blood stock manager here at Cambridge Stud and I’ve been part of the team here for coming up seven years my role as bloodstock manager is is basically overseeing each different department on the stud farm being involved in the in the key business decisions with our me mings so jack of all trades and master of none really my first part-time job was with Vanessa and Wayne Hillis uh mucking out stables before and after school they taught me all the basics and fundamentals of horsemanship working at Cambridge Stud we’re so fortunate as you know the facilities that we work in are incredible obviously Brendan and Joe uh bought the iconic stud farm off Patrick and Lady uh Hogan and have refurbished it into a worldass um stud farm it’s one of the newest in the world so we’re incredibly fortunate cameron’s a hard worker uh he’s very enthusiastic a lot of the stuff that he does he’s learning on the job but he’s quite adept at it i thought it was worth putting him up for the award to see whether he would get it and and in getting it hopefully that he would then push himself to another level it’s my pleasure to announce the winner of the Intane Excellence Award is Cameron Ring intain awards were incredible it was an honor to be the winner of the the overall excellence award certainly came as a large surprise it’s always nice to have a night like that to reflect back on your career and and what you’ve done and and you know the people that have influenced you to to succeed and I’m just so fortunate that I’ve worked for great people and and and had amazing mentors henry Pantry is has played a massive factor in in my career i used him as a bit of a mentor and a gauge of where I should go in in the next steps of my career what Entain have done is brought a recognition to what these kids are doing and I think it’s a fantastic thing it’s part of what they’ve done for the whole industry here in that support and putting a putting a mechanism underneath the industry to lift it up and probably the best way in the stud world to encourage uh it to get back on his feet was to reward people particularly the young people now it is cliche but younger generation is the future of our industry so you have to look after them and and nurture them and and having an awards night like that to to work towards is incredible [Music]
