  1. Damn, that’s high praise. It’s the quiet ones the smart people start paying attention to. You see the rest, it’s that quiet one that unsettles a guy. “Silent assassin” Rogers called him, high praise

  2. I remember the draft buzz around him. In 09 he was projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He wanted to improve upon his stock and maybe sneak into the 1st round, so he returned for his senior season. VT had him playing a lot of center field at free safety. He gave up a handful of deep touchdowns and he got the reputation of being too slow and a liability in coverage. He would need to have a good combine to show that he could hang with NFL receivers.

He trained for months to improve his straight line speed. During training, he says he got it down to 4.49. With his size, that would have been a great time. Instead, he ran an extremely slow 4.69 forty yard dash. This slow time, along with him being labeled a "tweener", (scouts thought he might project better as an outside, stand-up linebacker) caused him to fall. As a Seahawks fan, I'm glad he ran a 4.7 40.

Going back and reading some scouting reports, I came across one that nailed it:
"Chancellor will get no part of playing free safety at the next level. He will purely be a strong safety in a system that implores a cover 1/cover 3 system, namely teams which play in a run-happy division."

Amd that's exactly what happened. The Niners were pounding the rock with Frank Gore, the Rams were doing the same with Steven Jackson, and the Cardinals were TRYING to establish the run with Beanie Wells & Tim Hightower. Chancellor was an IMMEDIATE beast on special teams, and sat behind the great Lawyer Milloy for a season.

The rest, as they say, is history.

  3. If Kam was playing with the rules of the game from any time in the superbowl era pre player safety initiative he would be the most feared safety to ever lace up

  4. I know he's a once in a generation player, every tall big safety is measured against KAM CHANCELLOR. He's my favorite Strong Safety of all time.
