In this golf lesson, Martin Chuck helps a golfer improve their grip using his fun and effective “Tickle Your Six” analogy. He introduces a must-try finger trick, focusing on aligning the hands at the “6 o’clock” position on the grip. Martin emphasizes maintaining a gentle grip, allowing the club to work for you rather than forcing pressure into it. This approach helps create a relaxed and effective connection with the club, setting the foundation for smoother, more controlled swings.

cool awesome so there’s that now you definitely look like a golfer okay now don’t move I’m going to show you kind of what happens here as you take this back MH you lose a little bit of control here it’s like almost like this goes yes I do and slides a little bit here that’s correct okay non-negotiable okay so what do I need to change in that right hand let me explain take one foot to the left and stay there there okay just there’s good so there’s my thumb against the gently against the side of my palm okay this club see how this grip obviously a circle is kind of angular to my index finger and almost my index finger is kind of almost on top of this knuckle of my index finger you would say isn’t under the grip is it under would be down here up up now watch where this knuckle is if I put a red dot on this knuckle which I should get you with a sharpie right there that knuckle mhm okay what I’m touching right now mhm that knuckle is clearly what above the grip kich yes why so it can catch the so this can act as a mild shock absorber and catch the grip of the catch the weight of the club at the top I don’t want it yeah I’m there I know you are so see how this is kind of sitting right here in fact go ahead and put your good left hand on it only okay just the left hand okay get set for me in this T Square okay M flare your feet don’t worry about your right hand yet mhm okay good now I’m going to ask you to scooch both feet to the left an inch just there you go perfect leave your left foot where it is widen your right foot away from there just a tick that was a eight 8 in okay okay in in a half an inch perfect okay that’s a great looking ball location all right that’s more left nut than two forward now you hold on to the club I’m sorry with your left hand only as I move you okay and then I’m going to take this right hand and I’m going to kind of show you what this feels like at the top okay you don’t need a thumb to support this and you don’t need to try to you know like what we need to do is be able to feel this angular relationship of the of the club across this index finger so see how there’s an angular look there this is perpendicular that’s perpendicular you with me yeah that’s angular one way or the other yeah you with me so at the top stay where you are see how when you’re looking at your right index finger in mine like that that shaft has a place to sit that knuckle is closer to you than the grip isn’t it orber yes huh okay do that again so hang on a second set up to the ball Club off the ground okay now go to the top slow okay good and let the weight of it see how it’s kind of instead of it there’s no weight on it now is there no you want it to be here I needed a little bit I need a little bit that other wrist okay you with me yes if it’s here the weight wants to fall into here doesn’t it yes and then you lose the grip okay see my point go to the top okay interesting okay that’s pretty W don’t move so should it be here or you want it here let me get a Sharpie yeah I love the here and here cuz here and here means nothing I we need the sharp I I mean okay so come on up to the camera so there’s a little knuckle hinge pin you with me yep okay I’m going to give you another one too so you got one there you got one there okay now why is that one critical let me show you because that one is going to go somewhere on here okay you won’t be able to see it but you get my point right okay so here’s what everybody does a lot of grips are actually built with reminders there’s a little bump there these ones are just round they don’t have that little bump mhm okay which is fine but to see that little red hat that little red hash mark on my index finger watch where that hash mark goes It goes exact ex ly at 6:00 on the grip it doesn’t go further around over here you with me it goes at 6:00 the little red hash mark I put at 6:00 on the bottom of the grip obviously the top is 12 1 2 3 4 5 6 there’s 6:00 6:00 that gives me all kinds of room for the club to lay into this catching point so I can manage the club face rather than have it warble into a problem okay so if I look at that tattoo on my index finger and I look at the you know the brand Lampkin on the top I know that’s a 12 I know this goes at six you’re going to want to do something more right that way cuz that feels good to you but it gets the club in a precarious place for you whereas my preference is you know that the thing has a place to sit up there now it doesn’t have to immediately go and and create a weight on there that’s not it at all there’s my tattoo at 6 o’ at 6 o’cl at some point this club has to sort of lay lay on that because that’s how you’re going to have a bit of control of that club face right there mister you don’t have that control of the face right there okay your Club face is here yes so then your your delivery gets Steep and across deep divots and you’re going to want to back up have to to make it work it’s just that’s the right thing to do when you got an open face now if we have the face in a a little bit better spot cuz it’s a bit more angular correct to the right hand now that now your body will want to get quote through it more so you don’t hit it left MH okay and it so what’s this Mark for because that one originally see how see how much above the grip that is like see like it’s not so you I got to make sure this this was you this one your this was sort of you early today hitting Chip Shot see that that hinge pin and that knuckle right it’s not parallel to the back of the grip is it it’s well above the grip yes okay and then and the other line is a tattoo at 6 o00 you see that yes so good your left hand looks great build it nice face great good put that right at 6 o00 you don’t have to squeeze you don’t have to put any pressure just put it there gently definitely weird good good top one out there 90 yard when you do settle in there with that just mild bit of left knee Flex M there get that damn thing you know what I mean above the grip don’t let that go down oh don’t let this right you want it there okay okay okay nice little left knee Flex okay so hang on a sec I’m just cautious with your When anybody who kind of goes and brings a club back over here makes me nervous I’ll tell you why CU now you might whack me when I come up to set a golf ball when you hit or miss a shot you’re done Club should be here right okay every one of these okay okay now you’re going to hit another come on over here just for a sec awesome left hand put the tattoo on 6:00 okay no squeezy your your finger shouldn’t be turning white you know what I mean it there’s it just sits there it does no work okay if there’s some work it’s the lifeline of the right hand resting on the left thumb and then you’re going to kind of there’s no work I’m not doing any tap tap take a look okay so there’s my little bias of my left knee so just hit this little shot not not a hard one not nothing crazy hard just a little guy just something just a little guy out there okay Mish hit that a little bit but you get my point don’t even hit it hard beautiful beautiful so careful where your left foot is right now get your left foot a little more to the left so I know I know your ball location’s going to be left not not too far forward okay great okay Club a little off the ground beautiful okay A little shot hold your finish no matter what okay don’t move your golf club head is way the hell over there okay right well you’re like where where is it it’s behind you you can’t see it okay I just hit a shot where’s my club head I can see my club head you just want it in front of me all right okay I don’t want it here okay sorry I could have been more clear no that was me I’m I’m so focused on this right hand good I appreciate it you’re going to get it today once and for all done 6:00 tattoo no squeezy no just gently sits on the tattoo on the fold of the index finger is just restfully supporting that 6:00 position on the grip okay A little bit of left knee okay we do another one still steep okay now we what do you notice about 6:00 gentle gentle at six o’ okay okay what do you notice about the trajectory yours is more of a line drive yeah okay so why is it a line drive because I’ve got a stronger Loft being delivered to the Golf Ball versus one where the face is a little bit more undercutting the ball you tracking so the and one of the reasons why I have you we’re changing this right hand position is so that if my right wrist is bent back and relaxed a little bit more then when I pivot this thing guess what I’ve got some shaft lean you with me okay so this when you put your tattoo at 6:00 it’s super gentle no squeeze easy get your good hands on there you’re you’re going to do fantastic I can already tell okay we don’t need to um you know manually over hinge this thing let’s just chip one out there to both arms straight and just see how these balls kind of flight a little lower you know if I was hitting one kind of toward that green right there to you know to to run it up on the Green like that’s not a very high ball flight is it no and it but it it it’s just a function of delivered face so show me a great rightand tattoo okay good set up to the ball for me gentle no yeah super super gentle like this is what my tattoo feels like on the grip okay okay little left knee Flex good okay okay good try hang in there I see you fighting it it’s good gentle okay don’t move set up to the ball for me ball okay super gentle right okay mhm do just bear with me here mhm that feels different doesn’t it yes good pow okay do it again set up to the ball six o00 gentle waggle wag uh uh uhuh hang on Mister waggle waggle no there you go okay bear with me mhm and you’re done club’s here okay maybe your right foot’s a little bit more released but you you’re chippy to there are you tracking okay yes yes you got it and then just kind of see how that flexed right hand feels like it’s on top of the club a little bit more rather than underneath it 6 o00 good close yes see the ball flight came down yes good see where’s the divot what’s that should I take a picture of that make it put in your Christmas card put that right on your Christmas card but that’s from all that’s from the wris being loose that’s from to be able to do it yes cuz I’m I’m always tight I know cuz your hands are on poorly okay and you don’t have enough distance between this joint and this connection so see how there’s no distance between the wrist and and here I’ve got I don’t know another inch and a half so now I have way more ability to have this hand on top of it rather than something that’s stuck in the webbing okay do it again 6 o’ gentle that’s not six that’s like seven or there you go it’s going to take a little bit okay just that easy guy hold your finish you look fantastic man okay take a look to your left good and go to that little s off finish and hold it okay decent better a little too high still I could hit 20 balls in a row and pound that window on my studio if I wanted to with that club okay think about it I didn’t I didn’t get this I I can I I know what I didn’t do good okay so to stand in here I could say all right I’m not going to put the ball way back in my stance the ball is left nut okay my tattoos at 6:00 waggle waggle now watch if I want to not moving the ball back right I can hit it very very low if I want to okay CU I it’s like a guitar player bending and out for a little texture in the music if I want to with a golf club I can kind of out pivot the delivery and hit it with stronger with a stronger Loft there’s a standard Loft there’s increments of a stronger Loft all I’m doing right now is kind of teaching you how to grip it properly so your wrist can behave so we’re not we don’t get locked with a face pointed at the sky where we have to back up to square it you know it’s it’s just too hard when you lose that relationship in your right hand that little trick right there is massive that’s massive that little trick is critical for you to be able to get that sweet spot with compression onto a golf ball show me okay do that again so so go back stop doesn’t have to feel super hingeey here now and here’s what it can feel like see how this is like that’s on top it’s not something where you’re trying to drag a handle this way is it I don’t want that that face doesn’t hit a ball okay hit one 6 o00 gentle left knee flexy a little bit good okay I think you’re kind of getting it I think you’re getting it I’m posibly optimistic how about that how about you I I am after that shot let’s see if I can do two in a row tickle your six good tickle the six I know that sounds crazy right say that to your wife she be like what and when you grip it tickle your six okay let the club put pressure into you don’t put pressure into the club let the club put pressure into you don’t put pressure into the club tap it out there okay still a little off but we’re on the right track hey gang thanks for watching my YouTube channel remember hit the like button if you’re not a member click subscribe and share it with 1. "Let the club put pressure in to you, don't put pressure in to the club"…

    SOLID as ALWAYS, Martin.
    THANKS!

  2. just wanted to say went out and made sure i was doing this and the control i had was fantastic thank you so much i hit the ball better with all clubs including driver than i have for a very long time

  3. Very frustrating to watch this. No close up to show and a lot of the time when correcting Martin was in the cameras view so you couldn’t see what was going on.

  4. One of the best videos I’ve ever seen for explanation of the hand, but the video itself explaining and showing us what you really want sucks I think you and your video guy together could make a outstanding video hoping to see it soon

  5. I didn't understand anything that was being spoken about in this video !
I needed WE needed to SEE what was going on !
Please do this video again with CLOSE UPS !
    Thanks !

  6. Trigger finger! I used to watch Shawn Clement instruction. He emphasizes this concept. Apply pressure to the grip with the index finger of trail hand. "let the club put pressure into you, don't put pressure into the club" GOLD!

  7. Thanks for this. Letting the index finger rest vs. squeeze was huge for me to get a good release. What did the left knee cue do for this student?

  8. great grip tip, curious what the left knee instruction is about? Are you telling him to initiate his swing with left knee? If so, could you explain further?

  9. Miss you and the staff Martin. I'm about to send in a video, been working hard!! I figured out a few things in addition to what you guys taught me down there. I wish I could have had a week with you guys.
