what is going on Jets fans dylan Tamman back Hope everybody’s enjoying the nice sunny weather that New Jersey is finally getting It’s been in the mid to upper 90s all week here in South Carolina and it’s only going to continue next week So I’m glad that New Jersey is experiencing summerlike weather Hope everybody gets out and enjoys it catches some rays Today I wanted to come on and start the summer ranking series We have just over a month until the Jets report to training camp on July 22nd And there’s just a ton of ranking series to do in the summer You can stack the Jets up against themselves stack the Jets up against the division the conference the entire league and and see where this roster really is But before we can even expand to the division conference and the entire league I wanted to start with the Jets as a team what their roster looks like So power ranking the positions on the Jets Let’s get right into it The first I guess you know position group is obviously going to be special teams This is the worst unit the team has by far Clearly as you can see here I try to break it down Starters top backups even the depth players on on those positions And with special teams you don’t have an answer at starter So there’s nowhere to put them on this list other than 10 Truthfully even if they retained Zerine and Morstead from last year I don’t know how high they would rank with those guys But obviously when you don’t have a starter you have to be 10th on the list So no clear-cut starter as of right now The only four players in house are UDFA Kaden Davis from Old Miss Harrison Memphis the thicker kicker who was just signed this week He played for I think he was undrafted went to Carolina and then played in the UFFL for a little bit So they cut Anders Carlson to make room for Memphis Then you have Kai Kroger the UDFA punter from South Carolina and Austin McNamera who has never taken a official punt in the NFL So a ton of guys who are green at the position when it comes to NFL experience I’m not even going to speculate on who I think could be the starter at these positions Um I it’s truly anybody’s game Nobody has a leg up in my opinion Um maybe Memphis because they signed him after you know OTAA started and they cut Anders Carlson their most experienced kicker at the position to make room for him perhaps But again I I couldn’t even speculate on who the starter will be week one or even week one of preeason So this had to be the starting point the launch point 10th overall for special teams No questions asked The ninth best position in the power rankings in my opinion has to be tight end One you don’t have a ton of bodies at the position As you can see there’s only six names on this list Um the projected starter is rookie Mason Taylor So if you have a rookie as your top guy at the position I’m just not going to feel very confident putting them high in any sort of power ranking list That’s not to say Mason Taylor is going to be a bust or not work out in his first year I think there’s a really good chance where Mason Taylor is your third or fourth most productive pass catcher in the receiving game I would assume Garrett maybe Bree maybe Josh Reynolds are ahead of Mason Taylor in the pecking order but obviously all of this remains to be seen Having a rookie at the top though doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in me Your top backups Jeremy Rucker Stone Smart and Andrew Beck And I put Andrew Beck on here I know he’s a listed as a fullback but he also does inline work as a tight end Also he’s going to be highly involved in the run game in my opinion So I wouldn’t be surprised if the top four guys make it on this list Stone Smart also the newcomer from the Chargers signed to a minimal one-year deal And then Jeremy Rucker is the only holdover at the position of note um entering his third season I believe with the Jets uh excuse me fourth season with the Jets and has really not done a ton to really prove himself or establish himself in the NFL So just again not a ton of experience not a ton of production from these guys Um so to me nine felt like the best spot to put them I’m obviously not going to disrespect them and put them under special teams but nine felt like the right spot for the tight end group Obviously Mason Taylor can exceed expectations Jeremy Rucker with new coaching could obviously round out and be more of a better blocker like he was his first two seasons Stonesmart probably your athletic power slot type and then Andrew Beck as your fullback slash I guess emergency tight end kind of your doit all maybe your Hback type guy So there’s definitely a role for all these guys but in the pecking order of positions on the team they’re very very close to the bottom Number eight I have the quarterback position Again this kind of goes into the not having a ton of bodies at the position to really stand out Also we really don’t know what Justin Fields is going to be We have all these hopes and dreams and expectations that Justin Fields could be something for the Jets And I’m probably on the more optimistic side of Jets fans when it comes to what I think Justin Fields can do in 2025 Obviously a lot of that has to come to fruition right we have to actually see it on the field So if I were to you know go back and do these ranking series in October around the the the deadline or the by-week for the Jets I would assume quarterback would be a lot higher But given the unknown and what still needs to be developed out of Justin Fields it’s hard to put them any higher than eighth Obviously you have a good backup in Trod Taylor He’s probably one of the top backups in the NFL in my opinion I don’t think that’s very homerish to say And then your depth guys Brady Cook UDFA from Missouri and Adrien Martinez the holdover from last year I don’t think either of these guys are going to make the initial 53 Perhaps one of them sticks on with the practice squad and you can have an emergency third quarterback if you really need but it seems like all the eggs are in the Justin Fields basket for better or worse And I have them listed at eighth overall in the power rankings Next I have the safety position You have your topline guys are newcomer Andre Cisco from the Jacksonville Jaguars signed to a one-year 8 to10 million deal with the Jets this year More of a prove it deal than anything else And then your other starter opposite him I have listed Tony Adams but when you look at the top backup Malachi Moore the rookie from Alabama I do think there is a very good debate to be had on if Malachi Moore can become the starter by week one I think he’s a very impressive rookie What he did at Alabama playing the star defender position um just speaks to his versatility He went and played more of a traditional safety role in 2024 for the Crimson Tide but he he’s proved that he’s versatile He could play slot corner in a pinch He can be a box safety He could be a single high He could play splitfield safety He can really do it all for you So Malachi Moore although I have him listed as a top backup I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s at that starter position by week one maybe mid-season at worst and Tony Adams is your rotational third safety in the group Behind them you have Jaylen Simpson Jarius Monroe two guys that were on the roster last year I don’t think either of them had any playing time in 2024 Monroe I know was a practice squad only player And then they added Jordan Clark son of Ryan Clark and Dean Clark as UDFA’s this um offseason postdraft I’m not exactly sure if any of these four depth guys are going to make the roster If I had to assume they would keep four safeties total So perhaps one of the Clarks maybe Dean Clark would make the you know that fourth spot and just play a very minimal rotational role at safety So you have your three guys who are pretty solidified at the top And can one of these four in the depth category make a push to be on the initial 53 i don’t think that that is out of the realm of possibility So safety I have at seven The number six spot I have the wide receiver position Obviously we all know Garrett Wilson is a top 12 to 15 wide receiver at worst in this league he can probably prove to be a top 10 guy if his chemistry really does you know hit the ground running with Justin Fields in 2025 But after that it gets really bleak I mean you have Josh Reynolds who’s kind of a reclamation project He has you know familiarity with the front office and the coaching staff So they they know a little bit about him as opposed to some of the other guys in the room But if you’re relying on him to be your wide receiver too it’s definitely not the um the best you know projection for the group So a huge drop off from Wilson to whoever you want to put at wide receiver 2 whether that’s Allen Lazard who might not even make it to week one against the Pittsburgh Steelers at least playing for the Green and White he might be playing for the black and gold come week one So Alan Lazard obviously in the mix And then the top backups I have listed as Xavier Gibson Tyler Johnson who is a newcomer The the um new regime added him on a one-year minimal deal And then you have Malachi Corley the third round pick from last year who doesn’t seem to have a roster spot currently and is really fighting for position And then the rookie fourthrounder Aren Smith the speedster track star from Georgia So after that it gets a little murky Obviously names like Brandon Smith Irv Charles Pokey Wilson UDFA Jamal Pritchette those guys are are in the mix Um I would assume the Jets probably keep six wide receivers I think six might be even a little too many considering how runheavy this team wants to be And if that’s the case perhaps Malachi Corley doesn’t make the roster or they choose somebody with returning experience I know Jamal Pritchette has gotten some reps at returner during OTAAS and mini camps So perhaps one of those guys with more versatility could knock Malachi Corley off the roster I was a huge fan of Malachi Corley last year I was you know very very happy when they drafted him Obviously what he showed in 2025 or 2024 excuse me was not up to snuff and I think that he needs to really buckle down I know Rich Seamini just did a a small article about him and and his maturity his need to have a better mindset Obviously his route running ability needs to be better I my hope is that the new regime sees enough from him to keep him on as a gadget player in the short to intermediate range and then Aryan Smith can be your take the top off deep threat type of gadget player So you can have two gadget wide receivers that do different things And then you obviously have Gibson and Tyler Johnson Johnson I would assume is in more favor with the new regime because they signed him and they didn’t draft Malachai Corley So it’ll be interesting to see the numbers game at wide receiver If they keep five maybe Xavier Gibson is gone as well So it’s going to be interesting to see how wide receiver shakes out I have them right now in the middle of the pack for the Jets in terms of this power rankings episode but again mid-season if one of these guys pops they could be higher up on the list than just six And I do want to point out numbers 10 through six All of the positions I’ve already talked about I would like to see some type of activity at the position Whether they’re trying out guys during training camp or you know adding maybe a more notable name at one of these positions somebody who falls through the cracks or gets waved at the end of camp I would love to see positions 10 through six at some point get upgraded or some notable transaction happening at that position All right into the top five now Defensive line I feel like because of the topline guys I couldn’t put this below wide receiver but there is quite a substantial drop off You obviously have your starters Germaine Johnson when he’s 100% healthy he’s going to be the guy Quinnon Williams in the interior I have listed Derek Naughty as the defensive tackle opposite Quinnon Williams in a four-man front And then Will McDonald who’s coming off an impressive 10 and a half sack season gained 15 pounds Hopefully the expectations and the production from him is just going to be you know stock pointing up After the starters it does get very bleak You can see the top backups Michael Clemens nobody wants to see his name on this list Leonard Taylor III who I was very optimistic about a couple weeks ago doesn’t seem like he’s getting a ton of run with the first and second team in camp Byron Cow the addition from the Chicago Bears he seems to be the talk right now of being closer to a starter than a backup So perhaps he can push Naughty as that pass rusher opposite Quinn Williams and Naughty is more of your your run defend run defender in the middle You have rookie Tyler Baron from Miami who probably right now would be your fourth or fifth edge However you see him stacked up against Rashad Weaver the uh free agent signing from I believe the Texans He’s had time with the Tennessee Titans as well He’s a edge rusher out of Pittsburgh So between Baron and Weaver can one of these guys prove to be your fourth rotational edge who is going to play quite a substantial amount of snaps while Germaine Johnson is rehabbing from his Achilles injury And then in the depth group we have Braden McGregor and Eric Watts your two UDFA edges from last year Fedarian Matthysse who was signed during the Phil Savage era between Joe Douglas and Darren Muji So he if he can stay healthy could be in the mix You have J2 Fell the interior defender from Cincinnati And then you have three undrafted free agents in Jammarcus Weston from Florida Fattorma from West Virginia and Payton Paige from Clemson I would assume the defensive line keeps nine if not 10 bodies So one of these depth guys would make it because I have nine in the starters and backup groups combined So if we’re keeping 10 I would think one of the names from the depth spot would make the roster But I do think there is a case to be made to make an addition at the defensive line as well This is probably one of the last positions in the power rankings that is in need really And it’s only because Germaine Johnson is hurt If we knew Germaine Johnson was going to be 100% healthy maybe we’re not pushing the envelope so much to sign a Java Clowney or a Zadarius Smith Um but Germaine’s probably not going to be healthy I know there’s rumors that he’ll probably start the season on the pup list So we’ll see if that carries over into the regular season or not So I have the defensive line kind of right in the middle at five I have them above wide receiver because the top names do give me more confidence than just Garrett Wilson at the wide receiver position but the depth and the backups the drop off there is quite substantial still at defensive line Number four I have the linebacker position Um this one was a hard one to slot because there’s not a ton of names Obviously you have your two starters in Sherwood and Quincy Williams And then your top backups right away go to Kiko Maui Noah the fifth or sixth round draft pick from this past season from Miami And then Jamon Davis another Phil Savage signing from the Commanders He plays linebacker offball linebacker probably weak side linebacker in a 43 Um to me can he step up and be the third linebacker it remains to be seen Again I said this was a hard position to kind of slot in the power rankings because although there’s only two names at the top those two names are pretty damn good Quincy Williams has proven he can play at all pro level He’s earned that um status already in past seasons And Jamon Sherwood even though he just got the big extension I still think there’s more in the tank for him he can perform at a Pro Bowl or even an allp pro level in my opinion So as much as the linebackers from a body type perspective might not fit what we think this defense is going to do there’s a world where this duo of Sherwood and Williams is very good for multiple seasons to come for the Jets So I felt like they needed to get their flowers They got to number four which I think is pretty respectable considering the lack of uh just volume at the position Depthwise you have Zier Barnes Marcelino McCreary Ball Jackson Surman These are all guys who were here last season And then you have two UDFAs Jared Bartlett and Aaron Smith Didn’t hear a ton about any of the linebackers really in camp Um other than a couple Sherwood and Quincy Williams flashes where it seems like they were blitzing in camp uh nothing could really be um exactly specified based on the rules that the the Jets have given the beat reporters but it does seem like Quincy Williams and Jamie and Sherwood will be used more as blitzers as well as offball linebackers So definitely an intriguing um expectation for the linebackers and that’s why I have them slotted at four in these power rankings Now the top three this one I went back and forth I was going to put them two settled at three I do think this is one of the best units on the team obviously but also in the division like there’s not many running backs even in the conference we can open it up to that are better than Bree Hall in the AFC There’s a there’s a handful Obviously the Derrick Henry’s of the world Um maybe you want to put Jonathan Taylor in that bucket too But I still think Bree Hall is a top back in this entire league not just the division or conference So I have them at three for the Jets He is your clear-cut starter I hope he’s commanding 70 75% of the reps and it’s not a ton of running back by committee Although I do think top backups Brilin Allen and Isaiah Davis will have and should have a role in this offense Isaiah Davis even on special teams as a returner But if you can get a Walmart version of David Montgomery out of Brillin Allen and then Bree Hall who’s fully healthy for the first time in what seems like multiple seasons If he can be you know the Jir Gibbs adjacent in the offense that that we’re expecting Taylor Angstrand to run in New York this is going to be quite the duo And obviously I think Isaiah Davis will have a role too on offense But talking strictly about the top two guys there is a ton of I guess just hope is the word I’ll use But I have I have really high hopes for Hall and Allen in this offense I do think the team is going to be run heavy probably top three to top five in rush attempts in the entire league which is going to bode well for all these guys But if Bree Hall is fully healthy like he’s saying why can’t he hit the hole and run past every safety on the schedule like he did in 2022 and a little bit of 2023 before he got hurt so I have a lot of high expectations for the running back group I think Bree Hall playing on his contract year definitely adds motivation in his corner to do better So I have them as the third best group on the Jets currently Number two the offensive line And this is I don’t want to say it’s a shock because we’ve seen what the offensive line has done in years past for the Jets but to have them at two is a very good feeling Um this is this is where the offense is going to flow through If we can’t run the ball it’s probably going to be because the guys up front can’t block And if we are having a ton of success running the ball it’s because these guys are really putting in the work and doing their job and opening the rush lanes for Hall Allen and Davis Your top line guys most notably we know the four holdovers from last year Fanu at left tackle John Simpson at left guard Joe Tipman at center Elijah Vera Tucker at right guard and then the first round seventh overall pick Arman Meu at right tackle To me this is I don’t want to say it’s a flawless unit but in terms of what the Jets have had since their playoff drought started in 2010 this might be the best collective group we’ve seen in a long time Armanu excuse me is the third highest player drafted on this team Quinnon Williams was number three Sauce Gardner was number four Armanu was number 10 or number seven excuse me So for me my expectation is he hits the ground running He doesn’t really miss a beat He’s going to give you close to the same production if not even better production than what Morgan Moses gave you at the right tackle position Obviously Moses is a warrior for playing through injury and everything but you get younger you get stronger you get faster at the position and I do think Armanu it it’s not crazy to say he would be an upgrade from Morgan Moses Now you get into the top backups You have newcomer Juke Aoraphor from I technically the Patriots but more notably the Pittsburgh Steelers Josh Meyers your top interior backup comes over from the Green Bay Packers where he exclusively played center And then Carter Warren is probably your top swing tackle at the moment Um obviously there’s Max Mitchell in the depth category who has played tackle Most notably his rookie year in 2020 two was when he you know exceeded expectations but there were no expectations on him So I would put Carter Warren over Max Mitchell currently And then to round out the depth you have Xavier Newman Leander Vegan the German UDFA who put up 38 bench reps Abina Ezie Cole Lavalo and Gus Hartwing another UDFA I believe from Purdue So outside of the top eight guys that I have listed in starter backup maybe Max Mitchell and Xavier Newman round out the ninth and tenth offensive line spots And then you feel good about you know having a solid backup at tackle and interior And then you have a guy in a core of four who has proven he can do things well at the right tackle position but when he had to go play left tackle for New England it kind of turned into a disaster and he ended up essentially quitting on the team So if you can get two maybe three quality backups to go with your five topline starters I do think this is a unit that the entire offense is going to flow through Obviously Justin Fields is the one that everybody has their eyes on but these five need to give him that you know 3.1 second time to throw that he historically has had in the NFL which is not a good metric but if there’s a unit that’s going to give him the time I believe this would be the offensive line that would do it for him So offensive line comes in at two And that leaves number one if you’re following along properly would be the cornerback position I don’t think this is much of a surprise to people Um to me I felt like this was a no-brainer This is the best position group on the team Obviously you have Sauce Gardner who headlines the group with two AllPros two first team AllPros in his first three seasons in the NFL newcomer Brandon Stevens from the Baltimore Ravens who at one point was a top 100 pick hasn’t really lived up to the status but there’s a chance that this coaching staff gets the best out of him and then you have Michael Carter the second your slot nickel corner who in my opinion if he didn’t get injured last year he would have continued to prove why he’s a top three nickel corner in the league he was paid as such and I felt like coming into 2024 after the big payday they really just kept pushing him to get on the field as much as possible Um I don’t know if that’s a coaching thing or a front office thing maybe even an ownership thing of hey we paid this guy money We want to see this guy produce immediately Very difficult when you’re getting hurt in pregame warm-ups Back injuries aren’t fun So to have Michael Carter II back in the fold fully healthy huge communicator um of the defense him and CJ Mosley were the unsung communicators in the defense that now with Mosley retiring obviously Michael Carter has to step up and be excuse me more of a vocal leader And then your top backups are Aar Thomas and Isaiah Oliver Isaiah Oliver was the holdover from last year he can give you you know some safety some slot a little bit of boundary corner but not so much And then you have Aar Thomas the third round rookie from Florida State who much like Malachi Moore when we talked about it I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name up with the starters by midseason And that’s not to say Brandon Stevens is going to be you know ass for the Jets I just think that AZ Thomas is gonna have such a good camp and it’s going to be hard for the coaches to say we need to keep this guy on the bench still in favor of Brandon Stevens I I I just think he’s going to push really hard to um take that spot from Stevens Maybe he’s not successful at first but I do think by minimum next season AZ Thomas is your starter alongside Sauce Gardner And then you have two really special man press coverage corners on your boundary who are almost like their own little islands so to speak And maybe that’s you know putting too much hype and expectation on AZ Thomas but I just felt really you know good about the draft pick And I think everything he’s shown in camp we’ve seen every week of OTAAS and even mini camp there was at least one tweet saying AZ Thomas was doing something very good in practice So going to be hard to keep him quiet on the bench And then your depth guys Quantz Stiggers the holdover from last year excuse me JBC who’s been on the roster for a couple seasons now kind of jump back and forth between corner and safety this might be the make orb breakak season for him And then you have Chris Boyd who is a free agent addition from the Houston Texans He’s going to be special teams only So although he’s listed in with the cornerbacks he’s not going to give you any actual cornerback production on defense Um so cornerback number one position undisputed in my opinion I don’t think there’s offensive line yes was number two I don’t think there’s a case for them to be up at number one just because S Gardner’s accolades Michael Carter’s upside and what he’s already proven as a fifth rounder and then the appeal of A Thomas and Brandon Stevens combined opposite sauce There’s there’s going to be one of those guys that sticks around for a long time at least in my opinion So cornerback is the number one group for me on this roster Here’s the entire list 10 to one We had special teams at number 10 tight end at nine quarterback at eight safety at seven wide receiver at six defensive line at five linebacker at four running back at three offensive line at two and cornerback at one Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are about this roster Where did I get it completely wrong where did I get it right tell me who you think is the best position group on the team And and if it’s not quarterback who is it and why i appreciate everybody tuning in I know it’s a little bit of a longer form video here I’m trying to mix it up with short and long term long form videos excuse me on the channel get a little bit of everything hopefully capture the right audience And uh I appreciate everybody tuning in to all my videos so far Hit the like button on your way out Subscribe if you’re new And until next time let’s go Jets

  1. I think I'd swap OL and CB, other than that I completely agree. Its not a wide maegain between the 2 either imo, its just that I'm not the biggest fan of the Stephens signing. I do like the AZ pick though. I think Thomas may find his way into a starting role earlier than a lot think. For the OL, I like that we already have the rookie with upside slotted into a starting role and not Stephens who has not been all that good in the NFL. Personally I think Glenn had no plan on going corner in the draft until AZ fell, so that's probably why we overpaid for Stephens.

  2. Good show DT, mostly agree, I would of had the linebackers further back just because of the depth.☝️💚

  3. Way more optimism for Taylor/Ruckert over Fields. Taylor has already been referred as being special this offseason & Ruckert Y TE talents will be coached up out of him. Fields reeks of bad football character. A guy who has no interest in improving his passing abilities & has underachieved everywhere he's been. A Loser!
