[Music] welcome back to the Get Up Studio I’m Andy Today we’re going to talk about something that has kind of been controversial in the golf world and that is oversized golf grips In particular we’re going to talk about the Jumbo Max grips Now for those of you who are watching this video because you seriously are considering buying Jumbo Max grips and trying them out stay tuned But also those of you who might be watching and you’re thinking to yourself “Those things are ridiculously stupid I would never use them.” I want to challenge you to stay tuned because I have a challenge for you later on this video So let’s go back a little bit in time 2005 I’ve been playing golf since I don’t know 1995 So I’ve been playing for quite a while But go back to 2005 Uh everybody was pretty much playing conventional standard golf grips like this similar to this Now this is a Golf Pride New Decade grip Still a great grip I’ve used these many many years Uh but back in the day I was using Golf Pride grips I don’t remember which uh particular model I was using back then but I was using Golf Pride And then you fast forward to 2009 and this company comes out called Jumboax and you start seeing all these advertisements popping up for these oversized grips These right here are good sample of a jumboax grip And you can see in comparison to the golf pride grip quite a big difference But these advertisements started popping up everywhere online commercials almost like as seen on TV type stuff And honestly when these first came out the golfing world in general wasn’t really liking it At least from my perspective people were just kind of I don’t know about this This is way out there This is way outside the box These huge grips We’ve always used these smaller grips and they work fine right Um and I was I was in the same boat I wasn’t quite sure what to think about them and so I was kind of like not for me Fast forward to I don’t know when Bryson Dambo came out and started using them but he came out and said “This is what I’m using You guys should check these out They’re amazing They’re going to help your golf game.” yada yada yada I still wasn’t on board I saw that Bryce was using them I thought it was kind of interesting I get what their pitches their pitches You know if you’re using a hammer and you’re hammering nails you’re not using a small grip You’re using a big grip on that thing So why not with your golf clubs And so it wasn’t until about two years ago I decided you know what I’m going to kick my pride and I’m going to buy a couple grips And I bought two of the Jumbo Max grips I went with the ultra light jumboax grips Ultra light And I got the red white and blue ones You can get them all black And I I said “You know what Here’s what I’m going to do I’m going to take my eight iron and I’m going to put one of these grips on it.” And I did that And I just went and played I just played my regular rounds of golf I played in the studio And I will say this at first it felt really foreign to me It was just weird the way it felt in my hands But if I go back to when I first started playing golf regular grips have always felt uncomfortable to me to a certain extent And what I mean by that is when I grip a conventional grip okay I have my hands are on the larger side Uh I use a large or XL glove typically I’ve always felt like they don’t fit in my fingers or my hand enough to where I have complete control of the club So especially like when I come through at impact a lot of times the club would twist out of my hands Now sometimes it’s because I would hit it off the toe or the heel That’s going to happen But even at when I hit make solid contact with the ball I felt like it was twisting out of my hands And I felt like it was always the grip But everybody was always teaching no the grip’s fine That’s the right kind of grip Put it in your fingers Grip it like a baby bird All that stuff Um so these were intriguing to me but if I’m being honest my pride probably got the best of me because nobody else was playing them You’d go out in the course when they first came out and you’d see some 60 plus year old men out there using them but not a lot And and really no pros were playing them back when they first came out Um and so Bryson obviously had a big impact on this company taking off and exploding But two years ago I ordered a couple I put them on my clubs felt weird at first but the first thing that I really noticed is I felt like I had more control of the golf club I’m not saying that I immediately started hitting better shots because that’s not true I just felt like I had better control Like it just naturally fits in my hand like it should That’s that’s the only way I can describe it So ultimately when it comes down to a large oversized grip like this it’s going to be personal preference How does it feel to you how you’re performing things like that But what we always do here at GitHub is we go over what the product looks like what’s the quality like how does it feel and how does it perform So that’s what I want to do today After using these for two years I’m going to give you my input on how I feel these golf grips work So let’s first talk about appearance How do these things look Everybody’s going to have their own opinion I’m going to give you mine I think they look pretty cool Uh visually you can see the lines on there Um you want to make sure when they’re installed that they’re obviously installed on there straight but visually when you get this club and I put it down here you can see down the line there It lines up pretty good with the face of the club And I feel like it gives me a good visual of where to put my fingers on the club whether you’re in overlap or interlock So I like that I think visually they’re pretty cool And like I said if you don’t like the colors like the red white and blue you can get these in all black I say visually they’re pretty cool looking The next thing is quality And to me Jumbo Max hit it out of the park on quality And I’ll tell you why I’ve been playing golf with these on my clubs for about two years now And you’ll see there’s a couple spots I don’t know if you can see it where the paint’s kind of worn off or the ink in some areas but they’re still holding up really nice The texture is still good They still have like a tacky feel to them and so the quality is really good One of the things I like about the Jumboax grip is I like a grip that feels a little soft and you may you might like a grip that feels a little more firm and that’s that’s fine I prefer it to have a little cushion feel to it And this definitely has a cushiony feel to it It feels comfortable and just natural in my hands Sometimes the grips like the Golf Pride New Decades they’re great grips but sometimes they felt like they almost gave me blisters even if I wasn’t gripping it hard just because it would twist in my hands and the type of material they used Um I used to use the New Decades and I would get an extra wrap of tape underneath it to make it a little bit bigger but it just made the grip feel too firm to me So I like the fact that these are a little softer feel but the quality of them is definitely good It’s held up really really nice Now we’re going to go over performance Like I said I’ve been using these grips for two years so I have a pretty good understanding of how they work for me Everybody’s going to have their own feels and what they feel works for them but this is how I feel about the Jumboax grips and how they perform The first thing that you’re going to want to do to make sure that these perform best for you is to download the Jumboax fitting app which is right here And it’s a really cool tool that actually measures your hand and it tells you what size they recommend for your size of hand So I’m going to go on here and hit get started And I’m going to put my hand up in the camera And you can see how it visually puts the green dots on there Sometimes you got to mess around with it Hand analysis is complete Hit next And then it’s going to ask you several questions How what is your ball flight Fairly straight Little draw Hit it both ways I usually go both ways Next Rate your grip pressure on a scale of 1 to 10 I think this is kind of cool They actually have like a little bird there with a hand on it That’s kind of funny Um so how what what would you say your grip pressure is I always say mine’s around a seven It’s what I feel Do you have any hand issues like health issues that cause uh problems with your grip I do not And there you can see it’s recommending my grip size to be large which is what I’ve ordered And on the grip it actually shows you there’s the L for large I don’t know if you can see that or not So that’s what I did You can also just put in your glove size If you don’t want to use that I go back to the beginning here get started choose size instead and then it’ll ask you what type of glove fits you best And so you can go through that put it in I do recommend that you go with the size that they recommend just to start off If it doesn’t feel good to you then you can always order a different size But here’s what I want to say Don’t go and buy these grips for every one of your clubs in your bag Don’t do that because you might not like them and then you got to start all over again What I recommend and this is my challenge to you that are watching that say “These are absolutely stupidly ridiculous I’ll never use them.” Buy one grip measure your hand buy the grip they recommend and put it on like a mid iron like a seven iron and play with it Try it out and see how it feels to you You might change your mind or you might say “Woo I’m glad I only put it on one club because I don’t want to have to redo all my grips.” But I challenge you to test them out because you don’t know until you try You really don’t Ultimately it’s going to come down to personal preference and how it feels to you Not everybody’s going to like these I understand that But for me I want to tell you how I feel they perform I feel that they perform very well It’s not a magic wand It’s not going to completely change your game and you’re actually going to start shooting even par or better but it does give me some more confidence It takes some of the thinking out of the game for me because when it came to the traditional grips I could never get comfortable over the ball When I’d set up I would just I felt like I couldn’t get the club in my hands right And then I knew when I was coming down I was going to lose some of that control because the grip just wasn’t fitting in my hands right With the Gemax grips I don’t think about that I place them in my hand they feel comfortable and I don’t really think about it And then when I come down to impact it’s not twisting unless I hit it off the toe or the heel obviously but for the most part I have complete control of the golf club in my hands And that feels really good It feels good not to have to think about it It just feels natural So performance for me is great I even put it on my wedges Some people say not to do that because you’ll lose some of the feel I like it I feel like I have good control of it So for me I like the Jumboax grips Everybody’s going to have a different opinion but please try one Order one or two of them try them out and see if they work for you and then go from there So in summary I like the looks of the Jumbo Max Grip I like the way they feel love the quality of them and for me personally I think they perform very well Again I understand they’re not going to perform the same for everybody It’s going to come down to your personal preference but I do challenge you Buy one buy two of them try them out see if you like them You never know Please like this video and if you’re not already subscribed smash that subscribe button Share it with your friends We’ll see you next time [Music]

  1. Just recently got some on a few of my clubs, and I have to say I'm very happy with how they feel so far. I've been plagued by some hand and wrist pain issues and have generally not loved wearing a glove, so for me it was inevitable. Never liked standard grips, then midsize wasn't enough, then oversize, etc. You get the picture.

They do feel a bit strange at first like you mentioned, but man it's crazy how consistent they make contact once you feel that stability through the ball. Feels like the timing element with the hands has been seriously diminished and it's all just about good fundamental mechanics with the body. For me at least, it seems like a game changer in many ways. Bonus points for the fact that they won't need to be changed for years, if ever.

  2. I put them on my driver, 3w, & 5w. I feel more confident. Increased my distance and baby draw all the time. Im going to try it on my 7 or 8 iron.

  3. I wear a XXL glove! Always struggled with my grip! I ordered an XL ultralight for an extra gap wedge From years past. I’m hoping this is the missing link! I’m always milking the grip or regripping which causes me to play slow cause I’m uncomfortable! I’m a low single digit but always seem to have one or two shots that derail my round. Golf is the only sport that uses small grips! Not even badminton 🏸 can say this. What blows me away is that nobody has them in stock. I live near ALL the big box golf retailers and they don’t have any.

Is your chipping and pitching better with these?
    Driver accuracy and distance?
    🙏

I probably would need to buy a bigger golf bag. Like a 14 way vessel😂

  4. Love the jumbomax grips a lot. I just put them on my whole set this year and have played my best golf out of 5 years. I like how comfortable they are and more control I have over the ball.

  5. There is no reason other than convention that grips are so small. I think in the future grips will naturally get larger. I use the JumboMax XL. I wear a large glove. I use the heavier grips and really have zero issues with the swingweight. Some golfers are certainly more bothered with swingweight. Great video!

  6. I tried them for about 6 months or so and as much as I wanted to like them, I love the way they look and feel however my game suffered greatly and as soon as I switched back to standard grips my game improved. Now for full disclosure I have small hands and yes I did use JumboMax fitting tool and used what the tool recommended. Has much as I loved the grips they just didn’t help me at all

  7. Im into my 3rd season with the XL jumbo max, Do not understand "normal" size grips , these have been a revelation to my game

  8. I just started my experiment. I was fully prepared to ignore this fad until I heard it was good for hand/wrist pain, which I’ve struggled with for years.

I am testing a 9i, 6i, and driver. I got a duplicate driver shaft on eBay for like $50.

Irons felt great right away with the XL Lites and I could see how these could get pretty dialed in for me.

But driver has an XL Heavy, and I could not stop block/slicing the ball, which is crazy for me having a double-cross hook miss. I tried everything and could not square the face. I don’t know if that’s the heavy grip/counterbalance effect or what. I’m going to swap that heavy to a lite and see what happens.

  9. another great option is doing jumbo/oversized with 3 wraps which i love. will definitely have to try jumbo max next!

  10. I got Jumbomax grips by accident. I saw a set of used irons online that were a great combo of head and shaft- just what I'd been considering buying new. They were priced super low, but had Jumbomax grips; I figured for the price, I'd get them and regrip them if I had to. I haven't looked back; they've helped my game and my old hands. I had to change the griups on all my other clubs to match.

  11. The JumboMax fitting guide and app recommended a medium for me, but I settled on the XS Zenlite grips and couldn’t be happier. Absolutely love them. Didn’t mind the ultra lites but they were a bit too slippery for me

  12. Had them used them really struggled with them i use xl gloves and found them really nice in the hands but ball just kept going hight and right took them off and problem sorted

  13. What about senior golfers? I’m 70 and luckily I don’t have arthritis in my hands so that’s not a factor. I know they have suggestions throughs their app but I use a loose wrists concept which promotes less tension throughout my swing which is important for senior golfers as it does give me more speed and distance as a result. So….i don’t want something I feel I need to grip stronger to hold onto the club. I think I’ve answered my own question but what’s your opinion?

  14. This video hit home! I've been struggling with my grip de-lofting and closing during transition, especially with my Driver and Woods. I'm currently using the MCC +4 but feel that I can never really get a solid connected grip.

  15. They feel super weird at first. I went with the str8 tech non tapered XS. He’s right you feel like you have way more control especially if you’re trying to shot shape. Which doesn’t make sense to me because at first it feels like you’re not going to get your hands through. My driver has turned into the most consistent club in my bag. Distance is the maybe 5 yards more but definitely more consistent.

  16. I tried the Jumbo Max grips as there was a set on eBay with the ultralight XL on the whole set.

I have gone to mid-sized, then Jumbo or oversized grips. My hands occasionally cramp up so I bought the set to try since I wanted to of the irons anyway.

I have play 3 rounds with these and love them so far. I have been using the Tour model on a driver and also my broomstick putter for a while anyway.

I have a hand size 8.25- 8.5” and normally wear a large sized glove and like it tight. As per the video, I am a 60 something old man using them. After a few holes with the whole set, I knew I made a good choice. Try them for yourself. I have the same ones he is showing, mine are the XL.

The only con is they may not fit in your bag. 4 of the slots were tight. So I bought an OGIO Woode bag. They fit easily in there.

The ultra lights have a softer cushiony feel. The Tour model is a firmer feel.
