matt Fitzpatrick won’t beg for Ryder Cup spot says results must speak for themselves former US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick has ruled out pleading with European captain Luke Donald for a Ryder Cup place despite needing a captain’s pick to make the team for the September showdown at Beth Page Black once a world top 10 fixture the Englishman has seen his form dip significantly in 2024 with only one top 10 finish this season a T8 at the PGA Championship and three missed cuts Fitzpatrick has dropped as low as number 80 in the world rankings i’m not texting Luke saying “I really want to be there.” Fitzpatrick told Sky Sports “If I play well I’ll be there if I don’t I won’t i’m happy to accept that.” The 30-year-old has had limited success in his past Ryder Cup outings and admitted his experiences have fallen short of childhood dreams still he remains hopeful of earning his place through performance not persuasion it’s not something I’m even thinking about he added i’m focused on getting out of the hole I’m in and playing better despite Fitzpatrick’s struggles Donald has him on the radar saying after the PGA Championship Fitzy is a world-class player he’s just not excelling in any one area right now but he did some good things on a tough course fitzpatrick’s RDER Cup record remains underwhelming he failed to earn a point in 2016 or 2021 but broke through with a four-ball win alongside Rory Mroy in Rome last year however he lost his singles match to Max Homer and admitted afterward the event felt horrendous and embarrassing with time running out Fitzpatrick will need strong results over the coming weeks to convince Donald he belongs on team Europe friends what is your opinion about this share in the comments
