Following President Donald Trump’s latest golf trip to Miami and Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, a Democratic lawmaker is calling out the cost of his weekly trips to Florida.

During her testimony before the House’s Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee on Tuesday, April 8, Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett slammed the Trump administration for hypocrisy when it comes to government spending.

“If we are gonna talk about efficiency… let’s talk about the fact that, as of March 30, Trump’s golfing has cost us approximately $26 million,” Crockett said.

“The last time I checked, we’re not getting anything in return for that,” she added. “So, I will get back on my remarks, but I just wanted to point out that maybe we need to talk about the president and his golfing habits… He has decided that he wanted to play games while the rest of us are really trying to make sure that we can serve the American people.”

Crockett’s numbers didn’t take into account the cost of Trump’s latest golf trip in the first days of April, which was longer and more expensive than his previous weekend trips since Jan. 20.

The president left Washington, D.C., on Thursday, April 3, and flew to Miami in order to attend an LIV Golf event at his Trump National Doral Golf Club that night.

He remained in Florida for the weekend, staying at his Mar-a-Lago club, playing golf and hosting a fundraising dinner.

While a typical Trump golf weekend costs taxpayers $3.4 million, the Huffington Post estimates that the most recent trip ran up to $4.2 million due to the extra day and the fact that the president flew in a Marine helicopter from Miami International Airport to Trump National Doral, rather than take his motorcade for the 7.7-mile drive.

Friday, April 4, marked Trump’s 20th day of golf at one of his courses since he was inaugurated on Jan. 20 — totaling 27% of his second term.

His Florida visit drew extra ire from critics, as the long weekend meant the president skipped the dignified transfer of four U.S. Army soldiers who were recently killed during a training exercise in Lithuania.

The bodies of Troy S. Knutson-Collins, 28; Jose Duenez Jr., 25; Edvin F. Franco, 25; and Dante D. Taitano, 21; were returned to Dover Air Force base on the morning of April 4. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth attended the solemn event in the president’s stead.

Crockett’s comments on Trump’s golf expenses took place during a DOGE hearing on Trump’s plan to sell government buildings — which the congresswoman referred to as a “fire sale.” She also accused the president of being “hellbent” on firing federal employees to save a buck.

According to an April 4 report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10,000 federal workers lost their jobs in February and another 4,000 were fired in March as a result of DOGE cuts.

Using Brookings’ recent estimation that the average federal employee makes $106,462 annually, Trump’s $30 million golf budget so far this year could have paid for around 280 workers to remain employed.
