EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Local golfers are being given the opportunity to become members of the Jones Creek Golf Course, signaling that the end to the course’s revitalization efforts is close at hand.

It was once a gem of Columbia County, but after falling into disrepair, even non-golfers are hopeful for the restoration and what it can do for the surrounding area.

Many people in and out of the Jones Creek neighborhood are excited for the course to open back up, hoping to take their clubs from the range to the first tee soon.

Tripp Nanney, Jones Creek HOA president, tells us they haven’t been able to golf the course in seven years.

“They’re going to be sprigging and replanting the greens in the next 30 or 60 days. From that point, it’ll be another 90 days, give or take,” said Nanney. “It’s going to have brand new putting greens. The course has been manicured, so many trees have been taken out, both from the storm and just to make it more user-friendly. It’s just going to be something we’re excited about and we’re looking forward to.”

And with memberships now available, the excitement is only growing.

“I’m a senior in high school now at Lakeside High School, and back when I was in 4th grade, I actually took lessons here,” said Cooper Flanders. “It’s definitely exciting to see that the course is about to open back up.”

“The excitement here has been great, and then the course now officially opening up and seeing that light at the end of the tunnel is really nice that we can really get the life back into the course,” said Chad Carpenter, who lives in Jones Creek.

Nanney also tells us he thinks visitors will appreciate the amenities the course has to offer.

“We have tennis, pickleball and swimming now,” said Nanney. “We’ve got golf coming back. We’ve got a world-class practice facility right now, and I think it’ll just give more people an opportunity, more people, a reason to come into Jones Creek, and then they’ll see for themselves.”

Now it’s just about making sure it’s ready for people to enjoy.

“The most recent thing was the pond at Willow Lake,” said Nanney. “The spillway has been completely rebuilt. Now they’re rebuilding the dam and starting to dredge out because that will be their water source. Then we’re going to need some rain. We need some rain to fill that pond back up, and they can start watering these greens. They’ll be springing the greens.”

The goal is to have the course back open by the end of the year.
