  1. So what turns the shoulders? Your torso…what turns your torso? Your legs…you definitely need to use your torso and legs to throw a ball or swing your club…

  2. Tom conceptually it's the monkey drum or rattle drum move (they are cheap on Amazon etc)… Unfortunately it's not called a chicken drum which would be awesome for Krispyness..😂

  3. Hey Tom, this is the first video of yours that I've seen that is confusing and not particularly helpful IMHO. Even Hogan said the swing starts from the hips and as one gets older, power is generated from the hips and torso. Starting purely from the shoulders will surely increase the likelihood of an over the top swing?

  4. Masterful instructional simple examples and fun even with even repeat information redundancy is good for reinforcing your believe in applying the knowledge to your followers! Outstanding keep up the great teaching!

  5. I have been trying not to focus on shoulders….If I try fire my shoulders like you describe in the video, I find that my right shoulder pushes the club over the plane of the swing resulting in some really awful shots.

  6. Hi Tom, I like this tip, but it does seem to contradict some of your others where you emphasize a lateral shift with the lower body before the upper body comes through. Let me know what your thoughts are on this, I am struggling with what should initiate the move down to the ball. Thanks!

  7. This swaying is the single worst thing that I do . I never realized it until I came across your videos Tom. I want to thank you because my iron game and chipping has improved so much. I hit my irons so crispy now. All I need to do is figure out my driver that's a work in progress. Unfortunately I'm 61 years old so I don't hit it like I used to

  8. Throw a ball without using your body and get back to me. This video was deemed silly by me after the first minute.

  9. I'm 82 with a bad right knee and found this website to save my right leg, which I was incorrectly 'loading up' and 'pushing off'; try to do this without swaying, even with a good right leg. This Saguto swing is the correct swing REGARDLESS of the condition of your legs, and now, with a bum leg at 82, I'm hitting the ball better than I did years ago with two good legs. Thanks Tom.

  10. I think you're saying the bent lead knee, swaying, head moving are bad. Agreed. Also, you say you're powering your swing with your shoulders. I don't see that. I think you're swing is so good you automatically tighten your core & straighten your lead leg up & back(post-up), so you don't even think about it. I do not think you swing with an unengaged core. I see your quicker swing is your shoulders being moved as a result of using your core & lead hip turning slightly up & back i.e. posting up., which is a good move. I would add that the goal of the downswing is that the core-powered post-up, trail shoulder, arms & wrists all release as close to the same time as possible so the clubhead snaps through the ball at max-ish speed. Lastly, to me, pushing with the trail shoulder almost always results in over- the-top. Of course, I could be wrong.

  11. At 73 my body no longer aches after a round of golf, because I stopped doing what was hammered into my head for 30 years ( firing the hips).
I had local pro in Arizona that would be having a fit about me using my shoulders as a power source. But I'm now playing the best golf of my life and it's pain free.
    Thanks to finding your channel.

  12. tombaron4208, you must not be paying attention very well, Tom always talks about staying centered over the ball. It's one of his key things he always says in almost every video.

  13. Your videos are great! What are your thoughts on larger grips like Jumbomax grips to increase the likelihood of relaxed grip/arms to increase swing speed as well as the movements you talk about in the video?

  14. You're saying one thing, but your hips are still firing first. Your baseball swing standing verticle is missing something that's in the golf swing: gravity. Body rotation with club lag = whip at the bottom, where the speed comes from.

  15. Finally someone telling you the truth! Coming into golf from years of baseball (as pitcher or catcher), I never had a swing speed problem – you're throwing a ball with you're hand (baseball) or throwing a stick at a ball to make the ball go (golf). When I started playing golf I had a swing speed of 125mph average (real numbers; NOT made up). As a beginner, I had technical problems that I took lessons to resolve – contact, strike consistency, alignment, targeting etc. – so I went to the top PGA teaching pro in my region. First thing I was told was that I would never really master any of those basic technical issues until I stopped swinging with my arms and shoulders and used the " big muscles" and "ground forces" to swing the club, which made absolutely no sense to me but I figured "hey, this guy's supposed to know what he's doing". Every book and article I've read and all of the teaching pros I've worked with since have said the same thing. Result: 125mph without any effort or thought has become 90 or 95mph (on a good day) with a hell of a lot of effort and pain afterwards. Over the years I actually worked on those lessons and am now a 6.5 handicap, but when I go to a Pro for some swing tweak now and then, the first thing he tells me is that I've got to work on getting more swing speed – ya gotta laugh!

  16. So, no more consciously surfing the shins or extending lead hip 2 fist widths toward target? Just speeding your shoulders, you are ending up belly to target directly over straight lead leg.

  17. Tommy, I am almost there, but I notice your right pocket rotating back and then forward on the downswing. In other words, you are using your shoulders and body together to create that primo swing. If that is true, should hip rotation be just as important as as the shoulders??

  18. If I just do shoulder down, shoulder down, I eventually shank irons. I need to drop my hands first to avoid that. Otherwise I gradually start to have my arms a little off my body and it causes a shank

  19. I’m joining your online school. I’ve been saying it, but I can’t play golf like I am anymore. Something has to give😂😂

  20. You're still firing your hips first, which in fact does create speed and your wrists releasing through the zone creates most of the swing speed.
