ian Paltera enters Open qualifying in bid to end major absence amid LIIV golf struggles Ian PA is plotting a return to major championship golf entering final qualifying for the Open Championship in a bid to secure his first major start in three years The 48-year-old Englishman last teed it up in a major at St Andrews in 2022 Since joining LIIV Golf Palter’s world ranking has plummeted leaving him without automatic entry into golf’s biggest events Now with the Open returning to Royal Port Rush in July Poulter is aiming to play his way back in Earlier this week Poulter was spotted practicing at Royal Sinkports one of the venues for RNA final qualifying on July 1st His camp confirmed to Mirror US Sports that he has officially entered the 36 hole qualifier It’s a shift in approach for Poulter who previously chose not to attempt qualifying in 2023 or earlier this year opting instead for family time a luxury he credited to LIIV Golf’s lighter schedule I had the ability to go and qualify and I didn’t Pter told Talk Sport last summer That is what Elevate Golf has given me a bit more family time This time around the Majestics GC co- captain is taking the hard road inspired perhaps by teammate Sam Horsesfield who successfully qualified for the Open at Royal Trune last year Horsefield praised Palter’s mentorship especially in the short game calling it one of the best I’ve ever seen Paltera follows fellow LIIV veteran Sergio Garcia who has tried but failed to qualify via this route in recent years Garcia is currently clinging to the sole open exemption available through the LIV standings which will be finalized after next week’s LIIV Golf Dallas event For Pulza final qualifying could be his last realistic shot to return to the Open an event he’s played 17 times since 2000 Friends what is your opinion about this Share in the comments
