The Journey of Hope Golf Tournament, which raises funds for the CarolinaEast Foundation’s outreach to help cancer patients, met for its 13th year, hoping to better last year’s total of $40,298.

It was hosted by three golf clubs, The Emerald being the largest in participants with 116 golfers batting their dimpled balls over 18 holes for charity. Jerry Briele, director of The Emerald, said around 120 other golfers took part at other clubs.

Since its first year in 2013, the annual event has raised $100,585.50, every penny of which goes to help area cancer patients and their families. The majority of funds is raised through sponsorships, though golfers also pay a fee to play.
