both look incredibly good both feel good which one comes out on top that felt good feels beautiful it seems to be going very straight the overall winner definitely [Music] today we have got a big head-to-head in the hollowbodied category in the form of the Tailor Made P790 against the Mizuno Pro 245 for me two of the top dogs in this category both look incredibly good both feel good we’re going to put them to the test headto head today to see which one comes out on top so first of all looks for me it is close because for me all of these hollowbodied head-to-heads the 790 has been the best looking but I don’t think you can beat the look of a Mazuno it just looks fantastic so clean even in this kind of plain position there’s not a lot in it but for me this Mazuno 245 just looks fantastic okay and again if you are looking at this type of golf club you’re probably either a a mid to low handicapper i would imagine you’re probably anywhere between probably five handicap up to probably 15 handicap it is a broad range you know it’s quite a new category this is trying to blend looks feel with distance and dispersion so we’re wanting quite a lot out of these clubs okay and again that’s what we’re going to look at yes we’re going to look at looks and feel but ultimately has it got the ball speed has it got the forgiveness and the dispersion okay so let’s kick off with the P790 so kicking off with this Tailor- made P790 we are now into the fifth iteration of this iron so that says it all doesn’t it it says how popular it has been and it just goes to show how many golfers love this iron they’ve stuck with the same name so far testing has been very good i do think again they have made some good upgrades in the looks it looks really good nice clean crisp look to it it’s got the tech in it still so it’s still got it’s got the speed form air it’s got the speed pocket aiming to as I said blend feel and looks so let’s hit a few shots with it playing position looks very very nice yeah felt nice very good nice start pretty straight 24 ft decent spin number i think that’s one big thing in this category still making sure you got a decent spin number for the the stopping power and again just a hair off the bottom but again I’d take it ball speed didn’t really drop that much carry didn’t drop too much that one felt nice just pulled it a touch spin was a bit low again just pulling it delofting it a touch but it has it’s been so popular this iron it’s uh it’s definitely the the leader in the category in this category yeah bit better ball speed there 121.7 again good numbers there so typically my seven iron on a standard loft traditional loft at 34° would be like 170 this and the Mazuno both at 30° so quite strong um so you’re gonna see a bit more carry about 10 yards carry compared to a traditional lofted seven iron ah just a bit off the bottom don’t mind hitting those off center hits though cuz you’re probably someone that will hit the odd miss hit and you know yeah it’s dropped off a bit but it’s still straight this category does need to allow for a little bit of forgiveness as well and that’s what both clubs are trying to do that was a nice one yeah that was a good shot 180 carry decent ball speed there 123 yeah so far so good i think it ticks all the boxes it feels nice looks nice pretty forgiving that felt good yeah very good we can see why this is such a popular iron just a little bit off the bottom again but for me the off center hits have still been okay carries dropped off a little bit but for me Tailor Morade have done a done a great job with this it’s uh it’s easy to see why it is popular in the industry um it blends looks feel got a bit of help but yeah the the feel again is really really nice okay so now into this Mazuno Pro 245 as I said at the start I think looks wise just great they just keep it really clean um which I really like playing position looks fantastic i do think this club is going to rival the P790 because I think it looks great we know Mazuno generally feel very good it’s just has it got the distance has it got that ball speed has it got that dispersion okay so again going to hit another eight shots with this club again 30° so we’ve got the same loft oh yeah that felt good felt nicer definitely felt nicer in the uh Tailor Made certainly on that first shot yeah feels good feels lovely very very nice ball speed maybe is just a hair down but might just be too early to say just yet feels so good that feels really really nice must admit again that’s what Mizuno are known for isn’t it they’re known for for feel and uh definitely seeing that in this It seems to be going very straight again remember there’s always the human element but this is just my kind of natural feeling feels beautiful yeah very enjoyable hitting this very nice indeed so it’s got the looks and it’s got the feel be interesting to see the numbers seems to be going very straight as well not a lot it’s not doing so far maybe didn’t quite get all of that but again it’s it’s not dropped off that much at all really there we’ll just try one more yeah that was that was very enjoyable to hit i must admit most of these head-to-heads in this hollow body category has been won by the P790 i’m very intrigued to to see my initial feeling that Mazuno Pro 245 was Yeah very very good indeed let’s take a look at the dispersion to begin with yeah so you’ll see there uh the Mazuno in the orange uh tailor made P790 in the white mazuno definitely better dispersion isn’t it the front to back’s better it’s more central without a shadow of a doubt definitely better dispersion there for me the big one there although you can see probably the longest ones haven’t gone as far the missit hasn’t dropped off that much either as well yes I struck it probably a bit better there’s that human element but that felt better to me that that Mizuno so into some of the key numbers here club speed what’s good about this test is that I’ve swung it almost at identical speed there 86.9 86.8 ball speed exactly the same so no difference in speed 118.6 118.2 with the Tailor Made launching similar both launching in and around 19 spin a little bit more with the Mazuna with the Mazuno and I did feel that yeah it did definitely felt like you know as I was hitting them they were flighting a bit better overall height similar again 100 feet so so far very similar um and you can see that in the distances 170 carry uh 177 total with Mizuno 180 total with the with the Tailor Made and again just because there’s a bit more spin there the stopping power is that little bit better um but again it’s only a fraction but for me if you look at the total the plus or minus you’ve got plus or minus 4.2 two feet with the Mizuno plus or minus 7.6 yards sorry with the Tailor Made so again just a bit better front to back with the Mazuno and the side plus or – 16 ft with the Mazuno plus or minus 21 ft with the Tailor Made so yeah close call but for me it has to win in terms of looks feel better dispersion not that much in the numbers but the overall winner definitely Mizuno Pro 245 if you are in this market in the hollowbodied market definitely check this iron

  1. P790 was easy choice for me. The mizuno is too small for the category. If I went mizuno would def go the new 925 forged over the 245

  2. Not sure that this is a fair comp. 245 to 770 maybe closer, but other reviewers even use the T150 vs 245s. I think a JPX vs 790s would be fair.

  3. Just switched from jpx923 hot metal to 245’s. Went to the range twice and 1st time on course today. It’s wet here but found them different and slightly harder to hit. Using x stiff LS project x and standard lie and loft. Now I’m thinking A be patient and trust the change or think I should have gone the 925 forged 😔
