If I Had £5,000 for a Launch Monitor, I’d Buy THIS One…

each of these six launch monitors are priced between £1,000 and £5,000 and we recommend any of them to put inside your home golf simulator or to use as part of your game improvement but I’d recommend one more than the rest and I’ve got my own choice so we’re about to explain what’s great about each of these personal launch monitors but also what you might not like about them just so you can make the right decision about which one is the best for you right first up on the docket is the SkyRack Plus now this is one of the OG personal launch monitors made by the company that brought you the SkyRack which pretty much kicked off this craze that we’re all obsessed with now the SkyRack Plus is the development of that so it brought in some radar technology that let a Skyrack effectively give you club data now the pros of it are the data is phenomenally accurate we’ve always found Skyrack Plus measures very well and it doesn’t measure things that it can’t do well so you get a good amount of club data and a good amount of ball data you’re also going to get their brand new proprietary course software so they’ve partnered with Foresight and Trackman to bring you a wealth of courses that you can sign up to all from within the SkyRack app and Mitch and I are going to be doing a video on that later this week now the third and final pro in my eyes it’s super super easy to use you stick it down connect it to computer and you’re going to get a red dot on the ground telling you where to hit the ball from now you can run all of this from their PC software or if you don’t have a PC you can run it from the app which is available on iPhone and Android you’ll be able to play the courses go on the range get all the same data and play your Sky Track wherever you are now the cons there’s three cons the first is basically you don’t get a huge amount of data so you get a good look at what you’ve done with the club and the ball but you’re not going to get some of the finer data points that you’ll get with some other units the second con is the shot delay everybody talks about it it kind of takes you out of the immersion if you’re really sensitive to it when you hit the ball it takes a couple of seconds just to see that ball on the screen i personally don’t have much of a problem with it but it’s definitely the con that people bring up most often and finally it’s a phototric system which means it’s a camera and that means you have to switch it around depending if you’re right or left-handed which if you’ve got buddies who are lefties shouldn’t be hanging out with them anyway but if you do you’re going to have to move that launch monitor around this is the Flight Scope Meo Plus and it is without doubt one of the best value for money launch monitors on the market simply because inside this little device the amount of data that you get is absolutely phenomenal you can get things like impact location club face angle and pretty much everything else that you would need if you’re a bit of a data nerd and you want to dig into the small and finer details of your golf swing and on top of all of that it comes without any subscription at all so for around just over 2,000 you can get all of this with no extra add-ons and like I said it’s just phenomenal value for money you can even integrate it with a variety of third-party golf simulator softwares so if playing on virtual courses is your thing the Flight Scope Meo Plus might be for you now because this launch monitor is a Doppler radar launch monitor unfortunately you are going to need about 6 m or 18 ft or so of room length in order for this device to work accurately indoors also it’s not very easy to get level and aligned so if you’re somebody that’s going to need to lift your launch monitor up and put it away in between each time that you’re using it it might be a little bit of a faf because it’s going to take you two or three minutes each time to get it perfectly level so that you can get some accurate data and finally in my opinion the battery life on this device is not quite as good as what it says on the tin i’ve been using it for a while each time I plug it in it just seems to be on low battery which is a little bit frustrating now our second unit under the £5,000 mark is the Unicorn Eye Mini Light now it hit the UK shores about a year ago now maybe a little bit more and it’s been a smash hit and the reason is the pros are it is phenomenally accurate like you’re talking accuracy well beyond its price point you’ve got fantastic software so Unicor have got a launcher that works with GS Pro GameDay their new software and their Vue software which is basically their range and you’re going to get a huge amount of support on that as well so you’ve got trickle down software from a super expensive unit in the X02 and you’re going to get all those benefits for IM Lite now the third pro is this piece of kit is packing a punch for the money it’s got a lot more than you would expect it’s got access to things like an AI swing coach if you want to get it it can have an impact video there’s all sorts that I like can do that you wouldn’t expect from a unit that comes in under the £3,000 mark now cons of this unit it has to be Etherneted into your PC so this is not a mobile unit it is indoor only and it’s static so once you’ve got it wired in you’re pretty much set there so if you’ve got left-handed friends they are not welcome in your golf simulator now the second con of the IM light is it’s not going to give you a huge amount of data okay so you’re going to get really really accurate ball data and flight data things like that your club data is going to be limited so you’re going to get a look at your club path and things like that with stickers and that’s our third con is to get that club data you’re going to need to use some stickers they uh go on the club face very similar to something you would have seen from a foresight unit but that’s definitely a con it’s a running cost behind your simulator that you don’t get with some other units this is the full swing kit launch monitor and it’s effectively like a budget Trackman and in testing against the Trackman it is extremely accurate because it tracks the full flight of the golf ball next this device has got an amazing 4K swing camera so you can record your golf swing in superb high definition so that you can monitor those fine tweaks that you’re trying to improve in your swing and finally it has a full color super clear LED screen so it doesn’t need to be connected up to an app on your tablet you can literally take this device to the driving range and you can use it wirelessly now unfortunately because it is a Doppler radar device you are going to need a lot of space indoors and that’s great if you’ve got left and right-handed golfers using your golf simulator but like I say you’re going to need at least 18 ft or about 6 m of room length in order for this device to track the ball accurately now indoors the battery life of this device is absolutely fine but as soon as you take it outdoors the temperature is a little bit hot a little bit cold and the battery life does start to deteriorate pretty quickly and finally this device does have a driving range feature on its software for use indoors but it is still in its infancy so that is being developed at the moment so the simulation side for this device is still undergoing a little bit of development like I say so it might not be as polished as some of the others that are already out there now my third and final one under £5,000 is the Garmin R50 now it came out pretty recently it’s been a smash hit at golf swing systems we cannot keep them on the shelves but it’s got three main pros that I’m going to take you through and the first is what’s called Homec Hero now it’s Garmin’s course simulator it’s got 43,000 golf courses and it comes for about 100 quid a year that is stupid value for money like you’re talking 99% of the golf courses in the UK and about 92% of the UK of the courses worldwide that is just a joke the second pro is you actually get a huge amount of data with this as well you’re going to get a look at club data with face data all that sort of stuff you’re going to have to use some club stickers it’s what it is it’s definitely a con that’s going to be on the other side of this video but you’re going to get a really good look at the club data once you get those stickers on you’re going to get a look at impact now this is something that you often have to spend a lot more money for it’s got an impact video that’s looking at the club face from the side angle and in my opinion this is the best impact video that you can get under five grand now the final pro this one’s getting four and that’s that it’s all baked into one unit and what I mean when I say that is this has your PC in it it then also has your touchcreen on top and you plug the projector directly into the back of the unit which means there’s no need to get extra tech you just need an R50 something to hit the ball at something to hit it off and a projector and that’s you all sorted so you can get a full-on setup with this off GSS right now for in the region of about 6 1/2 grand which is crazy not long ago if you asked me how much you had to spend to get a decent golf simulator I’d be telling you 12 grand roughly the R50 has half that number now the cons of the R50 this is one big lump of a unit mitch is going to be uh he’s going to be peeking at you over the top of it now it’s massive which does also limit your mobility you’re going to have to carry it around a big old carry case and taking it to the range could be a bit of a drag the second con I sound like a broken record stickers on the club face if you’re able to get club data without stickers I would be selling this like my life depended on it it would be the biggest unit on the market by a huge way but some people do find stickers a little bit annoying and finally again sounding a bit like a broken record it’s a camerabased system which means if you’ve got righties and lefties in the same simulator you’re having to flip this around within your unit and that’s not ideal especially with the fact that this is actually hooked up to your projector this is the Uniore i Mini and it is effectively like a Foresight GC3 but with some added features like an impact camera and you get effectively very similar data to the foresight GC3 with almost the exact same accuracy but like I say for less price now also in my opinion the Unicor software is one of the best softwares out there in terms of game improvement and also the compatibility with third-party virtual core softwares as well and finally unlike the Unicor I Mini Lite this is a portable launch monitor with a screen on the top so you can take this as a standalone unit to the driving range to work on your golf swing and improving your game now unfortunately with the Unicor launch monitors they do require a subscription that starts at about $199 in order to access the main game improvement features and to be able to play on the virtual courses now unfortunately I would love to have seen some clubface data with this launch monitor especially when there’s something like the Garmin R50 you do get face impact data um so it would have been nice to just see that little feature added to a unit that costs this much money and also similar to the Fortite GC3 you do need to put stickers onto your club face in order to get any sort of club data as well now just before Alex and I go on to reveal our choices for the best launch monitor for less than £5,000 I have to give this guy a mention now this is the Foresight GC3 and it actually costs more than £5,000 so why am I talking about it well simply because there are a couple of options that allow you to get this exact same launch monitor for less than £5,000 and the reason why Alex and I are not talking about it down at Golf Swing Systems is because in the UK these options are not as common as in the US so you can get the Foresight GC3S here in the UK and it comes in at just less than $4,000 or $4,000 over in the USA as well and like I say it’s the exact same launch monitor but in order to use it then you have to pay quite a hefty $500 a year subscription which might put some people off now alternatively you can get an even cheaper version of this exact same launch monitor that doesn’t come with a screen and it has to stay plugged in and used indoors at all time and that’s called the Bushnell LPI and like I say that’s even cheaper but again you still have to pay the $500 a year subscription fee in order to use it so I went through hours and hours of endless research about which launch monitor I should upgrade to personally and I eventually chose the Foresight GC3 and I can hand on heart say that I do not regret it at all it’s absolutely fantastic but like I say it’s more than £5,000 but you can get the exact same launch monitor for less than £5,000 so I thought I needed to give it a mention before we go on to reveal our choices of those launch monitors down at Golf Swing Systems right mate now it’s time to decide which is your best launch monitor under 5K and which is mine under 5K so we’re going to do this as a little bit of a surprise i have no idea what Alex is going to choose and I have no idea what he’s going to choose so yeah on the count of three ready three two one right go on mate you tell me why you’ve gone for the Garmin R50 okay okay so you get I love the core software i think home here although the graphics aren’t that great they are widespread 43,000 golf courses for 100 quid a year is just stupid value for money uh the club data is very accurate from our testing you and I have tested it together and we found it was very very accurate and yeah I think to be honest it’s the standout of the year in my opinion it was it’s a very very different kind of launch monitor to what we expected and yeah I love it it’s great i must admit when we’ve tested it we’ve put it up against Trackman a couple of times trapman IO and Trapman 4 it’s been extremely close in terms of all of its data really and what impresses me the most despite the size that’s probably the biggest con for me if it was smaller I’d be all over it but yeah it’s literally got everything you’re going to need in a launch monitor straight out of the box especially if you just hook it up to a projector you’re good to go so why did you go for the i Mini now I just love the fact that the software is so good in the Unicor it’s just superb um I love the fact that it’s portable you can take it outdoors if you want to it’s got the screen so you can use it as a standalone unit um my launch monitor at the moment in my simulator is the Foresight GC3 and like I was saying before it’s extremely similar to the Foresight GC3 you get an extremely accurate data and you’re even getting some added features in there as well so yeah it’s a very close one but I do think despite the subscription with the Unicor stuff it’s actually really worth it um just to get that game improvement stuff and if you’re definitely into launch monitors for getting better at golf like most of us are then you’re gonna have to get some software that’s going to help you do that and like I said the Unicor stuff is amazing and that game day software has recently come out brand new course simulator we have it installed here at Gold Swing Systems so Mitch is going to be doing some content on that right away and I’m looking forward to it as well so stay tuned for that and you can check that video out up on the screen right now thank you very much Alex and you can get a 5% discount on pretty much every one of these launch monitors I think can’t you so you can save yourself quite a lot of money actually with this mid-range launch monitor unit at least a few hundred quid so definitely head over there and uh hopefully we’ll see you in this video in a moment
