Jordan Spieth said that Bryson DeChambeau’s performance in the 2021 BMW Championship was the greatest round of golf he’s ever seen, eclipsing even the two historic sub-60 rounds holed by his PGA Tour peers.

In 2017, at the Sony Open, Spieth watched his close friend Justin Thomas drop a lengthy eagle putt to score a round of 59, a feat that wowed spectators. Meanwhile, at last year’s Travelers Championship, Spieth saw Cameron Young’s stunning run at TPC River Highlands where he turned in a scorching 11-under-par 59 in the third round.

Despite the extraordinary performances by Thomas and Young, Spieth bestows the title of the top round he’s seen on LIV Golf defector DeChambeau, for his dazzling display at Caves Valley that culminated in a score of 60. DeChambeau even nearly broke into the 50s but failed to convert a six-foot putt on the closing hole.

Reflecting on the most impressive round he’s ever laid eyes on, Spieth told the media: “I would say Bryson that day because it was a par 72.

“That might be the answer on those three rounds. I remember thinking both Cam and Justin were right in it at the beginning. There’s definitely an argument for JT.

“He knew he needed eagle [on the final hole] and made a 15-foot slider. That’s a little bit different. That was the most clutch of the three.”

Despite claiming Masters and U.S. Open titles in 2015, as well as the Open Championship in 2017, Spieth has found it challenging to gain momentum in major tournaments since. This year, he is still seeking his first PGA Tour victory as the Travelers Championship unfolds.

The 31-year-old finished the Masters in April in a tie for 14th place, while Rory McIlroy achieved the career Grand Slam. He then failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship held at Quail Hollow, also missing out on the chance of completing his own major collection.

Spieth also struggled at this month’s U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, ultimately finishing tied for 23rd with a score of eight-over-par. However, he wasn’t alone in his struggles in Pennsylvania, as notable golfers like DeChambeau, Thomas, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry and Dustin Johnson failed to make the cut.

J.J. Spaun secured his first major title at the event with a relatively high score of one-under, underscoring the difficulty of this year’s event. Speaking to the media after his final round, he said: “I never thought I would be here holding this trophy.

“I’ve always had aspirations and dreams but a few months ago I didn’t know what my ceiling was and how good I could be, but I am just proud. I have been resilient in my career and pushed through a lot of things and tried to be the best golfer I could be.

“I was happy to display that today at Oakmont. It was a dream weekend scenario on Father’s Day, to have my two kids here is awesome and a cherry on top of a wonderful weekend.”
